BlackBerry Software, P910, and Cingular is not a good combo?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok I have searched and searched I can't get my p910i to work with the blackberry software.

I have the Blackberry connect ver 2.54 / P910i / Blackberry Enterprise Server

Is there anything I can do to get my emails on my phone using Cingular??

Posted by: tkao2025

Funny, I was just about to write something about the blackberry and cingular, but you beat me to it.

Just got off the phone with cingular. We had a conversation with the RIM guys and apparently my PIN does not exist and therefore RIM can't set up my device (P910) ................Funny because obviously a lot of people in Canada and USA have had success, but don't know if that's with Cingular or the other guy. Also a lot of people have had success setting up with BES. I'm just trying to set up BIS or Web Client.

I'm giving up for now. I've had cingular problems with my panasonic X800 when I got it. Couldn't connect to GPRS and looked all over the web and it seem like the only solution was to change to T-mobile.

Guess I'll have to use the P910 with the schedule e-mail pull and use the Nokia 6822 as my blackberry device as that works. Hope you find out more answers and have more success than I did.

Thanks for the reply. I'm on the phone with cingular and RIM right now. Lets see if they can help.

Posted by: tkao2025

Hope you have more luck than I did.................I called them 3 times today already. That's why I'm putting it aside for now, but hey if you find out an answer let me know.

Posted by: GuNNeR i730

No luck..but the guy said very very soon it will work for cingular's network. Don't know what that means but I will wait with you too. Thanks for all the help.

He's just afraid of you going to t-mobile. Anyways, hope they do start making more friendly connections. Until than, cheers for you help.

looks like Cingular and SE P910x BB is bad combo for now

Posted by: FuzzyClam

Wirelessly posted (P800: SonyEricssonP910a/R4A SEMC-Browser/Symbian/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

In the US anything is going to be a bad combo since BB sw for the P910x is not released. See the sticky re BB in this forum.

Once released, a whole bunch of folks will sign up.

I will post this in the sticky also.

If I can get my phone to roam on T-Mobile, in theory, I should be able to connect to BB's server thru them right? So far I've been able to change my pin to all zero's when I switch the settings from .net to .com.

Posted by: FuzzyClam

I thought RIM was blocking this version/platform of SW from their end for non-supported carriers?

I haven't looked at the sticky lately as I've given up until Cingular actually announces something. If I ask my IS group, they'll stick me with a BB device (blech...).

Have you looked at RoadSync by DataViz? If you have a recent Exchange server (Exchange 2003 or better), you can simply turn on Exchange ActiveSync and you're done. No Cingular/RIM interaction required other than normal GPRS. I can't do it until we upgrade from Exchange 2000 @ work (or we get a new Exchange server in NYC as opposed to via our HQ in London). For now, I'm stuck with Outlook Web Access which works ok with Opera if I turn off image loading (which gives me a text-only listing of my mailboxes). It ain't push, but it saves me from carrying YAD (yet another device), and real-time access isn't critical for me.

good luck,
paul

Just Talk to RoadSync and right now their service does not do push email until Microsoft release SP2 for windows 2003 server. When Microsoft release that service then it will be able to do PUSH Email. It syncs up every 5 mins with the server and grabs all the new email. Kinda not happy about that so I guess I will have to wait...something will have to work very soon. Waiting patiently.

But, for now, how many of us truly need less than 5 minute granularity? How much is to say 'we can do the same as Crackberry'?

cheers,
paul

I have whored myself back to T-Mo in a final beta test of the BB and p910a. I must say that not only has the signal increased since I last had them (over a year ago now), but upon insertion of the sim, power up, BB software started and I was connected within 1 minute with their server (service books and all). T-Mo's internet doesnt even drain the phone like it does when the internet is connected on cing ( I guess since the 3rd party apps constantly look on the server as opposed to "pushing" it.)

This is beyond doubt that cingular isn't and/or doesn't support the p910's BB software.

To make matters worse, they even have a better BB plan than cingular!! I just got the data with no voice for now, but I may do an ETF (ouch) just to port over.

Decisions, decisions. I feel so dirty!! :laughs:

I'd thought RIM had cut off the SE BB client universally since it hadn't been officially released. I didn't know it was a Cing thing only.

I need Cing since in NJ, I get great reception all around as well as in NY (all my co-workers with VZW and Sprint have to go near the window while I get 5 bars at my desk). For work though, I believe we use TMob for our BB's. Chances are I'd just get a 7100g to chuck in my bag (or vice versa, depending on when and where I am).

One thing I do like to do is keep personal calendar on the SE and leave Exchange for work only. Then I can use the "Remote P900" program to keep the P910a screen open on my desk at work in case I need a non-work number or to add a non-work appt. Since the BB software commandeers Contacts and Calendar, I can't keep 'em separate and I'm not too keen about work having my personal stuff on their server.

good luck,
paul

Fuzzyclam,

I see your dilema. However, the software was released over seas and isnt official here, but works here. Maybe since T-Mo released it there, it just so happens to work here.

I'm just glad it does. Save me a whole lot of battery charging time!!

Just switch over to T-Mobile and works fine. Actually works better then just having a blackberry. Its great and the service seems the same. No lost in signal and maybe even better then Cingular. So I will make the jump over to T-Mobile. Boo Cingular!! Make me pay a 150 cancel fee. But I think it’s worth it....

I made my switch 2 days ago. $120 etf. WORTH EVERY PENNY!! I was paying the exactly same money with cing, with less. Blackberry with them...$45 with a voice plan. BB without $49. BB with voice plan with T-Mo $20. Total bill now $75 with taxes. If I'd stayed with Cing, $135 est with BB added on. Now, being able to receive my emails thru the same phone I've come to know and love...priceless!

Posted by: FuzzyClam

Sounds good...Somehow, I'll need to get work to get a new service on TMob, but let me buy an unlocked phone for my personal Cing account(dunno...something small/quad band since I'm in UK alot). That way I can skip the ETF, have the BB through work with all my goodies and have a small personal phone (maybe the ROKR since SE's quad band phones are exactly 1 - the Z520 which I can't seem to find in the US).

decisions, decisions...

glad it's working...

My mistake...dunno why, but I'd heard ROKR was Quad. We'll see if the z520 comes in cheap enough to get.

I work for Cingular. I am a data specialist. Please shoot me a link to the software version you have that worked on on both Cingular and T-Mobile. I personally have a p910a, a 7100g, and a prototype 6682. I will do all I can to get this working for both of us. Please reply here or my personal e-mail which is kholubar@hotmail.com

I have the 6822 and it works fine on Cingular. The only thing is that when you delete e-mails off BB Clients or off the device itself, it does not delete on the handset or off the Client like a BB device would. You said you have a 6682 with blackberry or you just have the handset itself?

The P910 I have not gotten it working yet. Some help would be great.

Posted by: kholubar

If you use the webclient I've been told you can delete them off both. Just a setting. I don't have 6682 with BB. I've had it for about 3 months. It might be one of the best phones I've ever used. I am hoping to get the push e-mail working on Cingular. Sorry about our data support guys. If you don't have a Cingular phone sold in every store they don't know what to do. Hopefully I'll make some progres here.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Question: Can I utitlize Roadsync with my Motorola Razr using T-Mobile's $5.99 unlimited data plan to sync to my company's email if they use 2003 Outlook Exchange?

Anyone have any experience with Roadsync on a Razr? Is Roadsync utilizing push technology yet?

Thank you!

Posted by: kholubar

Well I was on the phone for 2 hours on Friday. 1 with Cingular, 1 with RIM. Same reply from both. Not yet. The pin that is created by the software is not recognized by the server. I used the webclient and was given an error message when trying to imput the message. Cingular has said that BB connect will be supported soon (possibly next 3 months) and Rim echoed that imformation. So the bad news is that both said it will not work. The good news it will be supported hopefully by 06.

Thanks for the info. Can't get work to "splurge" for a T-Mob SIM right now, so I'll sit tight.
