Verizon Wireless downloaded Firmware "04" to ALL stores last night at 01:00AM. Therefore, all stores should have it in their data bank. Just Ask! They have to give it to you.

I just spoke with one Verizon store here in Cleveland, and they still claim they don't have the v04 update and won't have the update until Verizon sends it to them. They claim they don't get firmware updates on line. I guess we'll just have to wait.

Guys...

This is SOLID. The Verizon server in Rochester New York sent the firmware update for the LG VX8100 to ALL their stores last night.

If they say they do not have it than (1) They do not know how to read the firmware data bank. (2) They do not wish to give it out...fear of having to much work.

THE FIRMWARE IS OFFICAL AND OUT!

Verizon Wireless's Server send the new updates to ALL stores (priority is given to the bigger stores) every Wednesday at 01:00AM.

MP3...GOOD. The sound is quality is better. People on the other end can hear me. So far no up and down volume issue. I am looking at a new additions to the file structure. I do not know what they added, yet!
Did not test BT or DUN. This is just the last 4 hours with this ver.

P.S. A PM that I have gotten from a member: He tells me that Atlanta stores are saying that they do not have it. I think they have it, or a server problem did not distribute the firmware to them...I'll check on that.

I talked to a technician on the phone and he said to come in and he'll flash it, but when i went in, the stupid B&*#^ that worked at the counter said that they have it, but they're not authorized to update it. Piss me off

Not all Verizon Wireless stores (or databases) get their updates the same way.

I spoke with a representative at Verizon WDTS (Wireless Data Technical Support) who accessed *his* database, (and email alerts) and his most recent version was T81VZV01. So ... *many* stores may have the update as a result of this purported sendout, but certainly not all.

I have a favor to ask someone, Anyone with V04 could post, or e-mail me V04, as I am to leave tomarrow, and won't be able to get to a Verizon store untill September. Most techs have it just dont know about it. It was released to east coast shops today. Reason most techs dont know is because they dont care or dont have the 8100 so why would they ? I just got it today , it all depends on who you get on the phone when you call.

Or how lazy the reps you talk to are... Now I'm not saying I was getting the shaft at a local Verizon store, you be the judge. I called in to the store, the girl on the phone put me on hold so she could ask the tech about it, "she said he said" they've got the 8100 update and that the tech would be there until the store closed. I go up there, wait in line for a good 30 minutes and the customer service rep says "alright, let me go check with the tech to see if we have it" Comes back "no, it's not available" So I say, try checking the server to see if it's on there, CSR comes back after about 10 minutes and says "Yea, we have an update, but it's unstable, another one should be here Friday." So I figured, you know, I've driven up there two days in a row (not a short drive either) and asked if I could get it done tonight. He explains that it would take a long time and that the tech wasn't even there... What a waste of time and what a crappy rep. Silly lying verizon rep.

I wouldn’t say that they where lying, just that the tech didn’t know what to do. Normally upgrades come over the server and IT puts then neatly into a folder and all we(the techs) have to normally do is hook up phone and load program. Well for some reason with this upgrade there is a little more to it. You have to install the 8100 .dll files then copy and paste the .bin file to a VX8100 folder that the tech has to create. Now mind you there are step by step instruction that comes with the update but you know it as much as i do that even with instruction most people cant even turn on a TV ! That’s why most people are going to have trouble getting their hands on it. Like i said before in a post most don’t care because they don’t have the 8100. Unlike me i had been waiting for this like a kid in front of a candy store waiting to open. As soon as i saw the email i dropped what i was doing and upgraded it. So keep trying man. If you’re in the NJ market give me a shout and ill do it for you.

What I say is REAL. What I say is SOLID. The Firmware was sent to ALL via ROchester server. Sorry you can not deal with the truth. Maybe you guys are not three hours behind but rather three days behind...lol.

I am trying to get my hands on a program the can backup my "04" if I get the program I will post the firmware for you, so you can keep your language down.

I also know that some people in CA, WA, GA, AL, AK & OH did not get the program because the servers that serve (for lack of a better word) those areas were down. Maybe Rochester will try to send it tonight. However, VW likes to send firmwares on Wendesdays in the AM when their systems are not doing to much updating...etc.

Last word. If you do not like what I said too bad. It is the truth. Read throughout the internet groups and you'll see that hundreds if not thousands have updated today. At the NYC store, the tech did not believe me until he went into the data bank...He than came out and said that he is going to do his VX8100 first...cutting the line, I was first. But he combined the software programs that make up the "04". Took 45 Min. and I was out.

i went my store in nj and they had it and he asked how did u find out about it it was just released today and i told i found out through the internet and he said word gets around fast geez and it fixes the phone powerin down outta nowhere and the pics gettin deleted and gives u the mp3 player ill show proof if anyone needs it

new jersey livingston mall store has it.. took less then 20 min... v04. has status light on / off , different boot up screens, mp3 player, one new wall paper and thats about it.

Fixes I can confirm (Firmware 04):

1. MP3 player
2. Option to turn off disco lights
3. Fluctauting volume fixed
4. Bluetooth headset echo reduced significantly

No matter what you guys think there IS NO SOFTWARE in my area. I know it for an absolute fact. I have called every store atleast twice today asking for different techs to check the server again and there is absolutely nothing. Perhaps since you know exactly where to find this software for my phone you can give me instructions to tell the techs since you are so positive that they have it.

Maybe we can actually help the Techs. NeoGuy, I dont mean to sound harsh towards you but I am 99% sure they dont have the software here and theres no way that you can confirm that they do. Please contact me on AIM if you have it, my screen name is ZeeTwankyFo2

Im in TX, and i have done 4 SW upgrades today alone. If any of the techs in other areas need it, tell them to call any of the TX stores, we can send it over our email to them.

Unfortunately, it is not possible. You have to combine two files to install this firmware update. If someone can PM me were to download the software I’ll back up “04” and post the 04 Firmware for all. Any VW guys out there?

Isn't it funny that we are so impatient to get this upgraded firmware? Didn't we all live with our last cell phone without an mp3 player, and with the cell phone before that without a camera? And don't most people who have purchased the vx-8100 already have dedicated separate mp3 players and digital cameras that will outperform anything the vx-8100 will do even after it is upgraded? I love new toys, but I am not going to drive myself crazy calling my Verizon store which says they don't have the upgrade. I will wait a month at which time, hopefully, I will buy a new vx-8100 with most of the bugs worked out. In the meanwhile, my vx-4400 without any of these bells and whistles should just be just fine.

This incident occured when i called my local verizon corporate store in Green Bay, WI. It drove me crazy and so i feel the need to share it. I wrote this letter to give to the store manager describing the incident.

To Whom It May Concern:

I called the Bay Park Square verizon wireless store (920-429-0922) on August 24, 2005 at 7:30 PM to get information about a software update for a phone I’m considering buying. The employee informed me that the store was a kiosk and incapable of doing such an update, and no one within a hundred miles could do the update. I asked him why verizon sold phones in areas without technical support, and I think that upset him. I thanked him for his time and he proceed to hang up on me. I was outraged at his lack of professionalism.

I called back and asked him in a calm manner why he felt the need to hang up on me. He responded rudely and asked if I needed something. I told him I was considering purchasing a phone (actually four, I’m on a family plan with my family). He replied rudely “well is there something I can do for you I’m busy right now”. I expected him to apologize when I called back; after all I only wanted to be respected as a person and as a potential customer of your store. I began to tell him that I work in sales and before I could say anything else he hung up on me again. I called back a few minutes later and simply asked for the store manager, and he hung up on me a third time.

This Verizon employee’s behavior was completely unacceptable. I could not believe the way I was being treated by a person I intended to purchase four phones from. His incompetence tarnishes the reputation of your kiosk and of Verizon Wireless. I can no longer trust that I will get professional service from your store. This employee obviously does not know the first thing about sales if he treats customers with such disrespect. I would not trust him to handle my account or my personal information. I really hope for the sake of your store’s success that you address this problem with this employee promptly.

I will be no longer purchasing my phones through your store. I’d rather drive to Appleton to get these phones than give business to a place that treats its customers so poorly. I do not blame you as I assume that you are a professional, and that is why I felt obligated to inform you of how your employees are treating customers. Thank you for your time and I hope you will do something to ensure that this does not happen to any of your other customers.

Yea I don't think its funny at all Buddy. I don't NEED the upgrade for the MP3 player or the camera, I NEED it for all the fixes
- Sounds volume
- Rings on Vibrate mode
those two the most important things, which should never happen when buying a new phone. MP3 player is just a nice feature on which i bought the phone for. We all have are own opinions but thats what most people need the Fixes for, especially in professional business settings. If you are complaining about the MP3 player and camera on a phone, then I'm sure u will never buy this phone or any other with these features on them, Because YOUR never use them. I myself like these for convience. If i dont have my Ipod with me or Camera, I can still Listen to music, watch videos, and take pictures. But hey thats just me...

Some new things to do w/ Ver. 04.

Connect Your 8100 to your Laptop:
Open your network connections on your PC, and create new connection. Name it "Verizon" or whatever. Select to use the LGE CDMA Diagnostic port, or whatever yours is named. Enter the phone number to dial as "#777", less the quotes.
I use username and password "vzw" and it works fine for me, although I've seen a handful of other username suggestions (i.e., "yournumber@vzw3g.com", "yournumber@vzw.com", etc).

VX8100 Flashlight: - I like this one
Hold the camera button on the right side of the phone until the camera mode starts (about 2-3 seconds). Then after the Please Wait disappears, tap the microphone button along the left side to turn on the pre-flash. I use it all the time, just wish it were quicker to get it going!
Note: The light will only stay on for about a minute or so if you don't take a picture. You can turn it on or off by pressing the left side mic button...under the vol. control.

MP3 Player:
Menu tab= contacts
menu 0 (000000)
9. get it now settings
16. get it now
Mediaplayer
To add songs: (file structure of phone): brew>16452>mf>right click add your midi

Increase camera speed:
Press clear after you take the picture to increase the 1-2 second lag...Some say it works I do not think it is major.

Connect your 8100 to the computer:
Data Cable (search ebay: should be 6-10 dollars)
QPST
Bitpim

Playing movies from your SD card:

Using QuickTime it was simple to convert (mpeg4) to 3g2 format. You can transfer the files to my mini SD card using a reader hooked up to your system and just put them in the MY FLIX folder.
The videos play and look great on the phone. Use QuickTime Pro 7.1 (the latest) and I choose the EXPORT option.

Pick MOVIE TO 3G and from the OPTIONS MENU:
FILE FORMAT: 3GPP2
DATA RATE: 64kbits
IMAGE SIZE: 176X144
FRAME RATE:15
KEY FRAME: Every 24 frames.

I have been in my Verizon store several times and have never noticed any volume problem with the display sample of the phone they have. I still think it is rather juvenile that you can't wait for the upgrade. You have already waited at most only a month so whats a few more days or another week even? Just relax, sooner or later you WILL have it.

I'm in Chula Vista here in San Diego and just got my phone today. I upgraded from the vx7000. I called *611 about the software and they told me 04 was out and that I should call the store to double check. So I called the store and they said they haven't recieved the 04 upgrade yet. So I'm wondering when it's going to hit us here in San Diego.

I went to the Verizon store in Clairmont Mesa Blvd. I was meeting a friend for lunch and thought it would be a good idea to get the phone upgraded while I ate. According to them, there is no update... Maybe they haven't gotten it yet, but who knows... If anybody out there in San Diego has gotten the update, please tell me what store. I keep getting inconsistent information. Maybe another "Courtesy Credit" from Verizon is due yet again...

I guessin' Cali doesn't have it. I called West Covina and told them CS told me to get my software flashed to fix the problems (eradication of my pix, flix, and sounds.)

I didn't go because I have no gas. I hate these prices. But that's another topic.

i'm out in east county (san diego), i've called the 3 stores out here, (el cajon, la mesa, and santee<-- by Mimi's Cafe) and the said they expect it soon. La Mesa seemed to have the best employees who knew what they were talking about. one of their techs is waiting for the update as well so he said he's checking their database every hour.

Some peoples had their mini SD cards completely erased. So it's kinda good that they got it first, no offense. But everybodies accidents can help out another person in the future. That's why there are forums. So take out your cards before flashing.

I just got off the phone with a tech but apparently it hasn't been rolled out to San Diego yet. They told me to give it about a week or so and then call the store again to flash the software. Apparently another problem was with the calendar and the "save settings each month" thing. It doesn't save dates every month in advance, it's only saving it for the month in which they are set, so that's another issue LG is looking into. This is according to the tech guy I spoke to so don't quote me on that.

Sorry, didn't know there were two Mimi Cafe's next to a Verizon Wireless store in San Diego. I was referring to the one on Mission Valley though. Anyways, I just called them and they said to check back in a week. But you never know, it could take longer for it to roll out over here. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I was thinking of Mimi's Cafe in Mission Valley as well. Anyway, I hope the 04 comes out soon to San Diego.

One more thing. Can someone tell me/lead me (as I'm sure there's a thread for this) on how to transfer my contacts through BitPim. I have everything set for my VX7000 but I want to get them onto my VX8100. Do I need to change something with the driver or set up a different phone category?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Called the store in Santa Clarita (Valencia) California and they have the update. I stopped by and the girl said sure I will put it in for you, it will take at least 60-90 minutes and there is a good possibility that you will lose all your data. Needless to say I said no thanks., I have a friend who is the manager in the San Fernando Valley store and will go and visit him, I was trying to avoid a drive but when you do not trust someone I went with my gut!@

By the way what are the exact things this update will do???

Very Possible. Very similar to BIOS update on you computer. However, with this upgrade just a few more steps. But you can backup firmware (bin) and reinstall with the VW software. Now just need to get it.

You need a specialized software to upgrade and or save the software. The programs out there may not be able to backup or reinstall the firmware correctly, so beware!

I wish someone who works for Verizon Wireless can send me a link to this software.

California here we come!...Word is that a 2nd attempt to send ver 04 to the Mountain and Pacific (TZ) servers will happen this Wednesday in the AM hours...You guys in the west let us know if stores have in Wednesady AM.

From what the tech guy told me, apparently this 04 version might not fix the calendar bug, but he stated that LG was working on that so who knows if it'll be released anytime soon. But if anyone knows otherwise, feel free to clarify.

I went to a store in Novi, MI today and the tech told me that the fix has been released in NY and TX as test areas. It should be available soon to all other regions. So for now, it looks like the rest of the country is boned.

If you want to extend the hours/minutes on your battery turn off your EDVO(if you do not need it...the system is only on in 60% of VW service areas). It has been posted here on HF a few times.

Again, if you do not use EVDO...then simply shut that option off - I find it to be the best way on saving a LOT of my battery life. To shut this option off simply do the following:
---Hit "OK" to take you to the main menu and then type in "OOOOOOO" for the service code.
---Then select option 3: network select and hit 'mode preference'
---Then choose '1X Only' (This will take off the EVDO icon that appears on the top of the screen and will only keep the 1X icon showing.) Since the phone wont be searching for EVDO service.. it saves a lot of the battery.

***Change ONLY TO 1x - DO NOT PLAY with the other settings. Please.

I would call the Reginal Director for VW in your area. Wait until Wednesday AM to see if they got the upgrade. They should ALL get it. Since the Techs have to combine two bin files they are geting lazy and in some stores they are saying that they do not have it, but they do have it. 30min-45min should do the trick!

I got mine in San Jose, CA on the montegue Verizon store.

I asked them if they have the upgrade and they said it would take 20 minutes to do.

After the finished the wallpaper was different. It was no longer the checkmark red, it's now a dark red, V CAST circles, i don't know I liked the other one, but they seem to have deleted it from the phone.

I did notice a new folder.

If I click > on the keypad, I'm now at the "GET IT NOW" section
click 1. "Get Tunes & Tones"
click 4. "My MP3" (This was not there before the upgrade)
States after you click it "NO SONGS FOUND IN MEMORY CARD"

Also I am now able to turn off the gay, pink-babyblue-red lights that flashed when the phone rang.

Go to the "SETTINGS & TOOLS" section
click 4. "Display"
click 7. "Status Light" (this was not there before the upgrade)
Turn "off" the Status light, this will turn off the light when someone calls.

I still wish I could just turn the "Flash" on to use it as a flashlight, Currently I have to press the "Camera" button on the side (hold for 3 seconds), then press the flash button on the other side when the camera is on....but this is kinda a pain.

I also wish I can do a "Voice Recording" and then make that my ringtone...

I asked the Verizon guy about the sych with your computer, I currently want to sych to my outlook cal, and contacts. HE said the "Mobile Office Kit" or whatever is not yet available for this phone yet. (comes with cd and data cable $39.99)

I asked about how I could sych the phone wirelessly with bluetooth and his response was that that fuctionality has been disabled. ha. that sucks.

They also said they did not sell the Mini SD cards for the phone.

Anyways sounds like I need to get a Data Cable from Ebay $6-10, and try out the BitPim and also buy a SD card to try out the MP3 ability.

BitPim works quite well. Even over Bluetooth, although it's a little buggy.

I went to get this firmware upgrade today (Charlotte, NC) on my lunch hour and the guy said it could take 45 minutes to 4 HOURS!

So I'll have to get it done on Saturday... Bummer.

Wait time depends on how many people are ahead of you and how many files such as pictures, ringtones, and stuff you have in your phone already. Mine only took 45 minutes to get it updated, probably even faster because I didn't have that much stuff on it.

Well the volume still fluctuates up and down a bit, and is a little low. I emailed LG and they said it was a software issue and not a hardware issue. So they told me it should've been fixed with the upgrade, but it didn't do anything really. The options they gave me was to send it in to LG and/or have Verizon swap it out, if Verizon would agree.

So I'm going to Verizon to tell them it's almost the same as having bad reception because I'm always telling my callers, "What, what did you say?". It's frustrating, but yeah, the volume just doesn't flow with me man.

1. The pictures that were on the phone now all show up with a question mark icon and they cannot be deleted or moved. New pictures are okay but the ones I took before seem to be unrecognized by the phone.

2. The roaming indicator light will not go off and the phone seems to be stuck in roam mode.

What would you suggest I do? I really don't want to lose the pictures I had and I was assured by VZW that I would not lose them but I'm afraid this is not the case.

1. use a data cable + bitpm and copy all your pictures to your pc. should have done this before updating to v4.

Another option, which I posted on another thread would be to swap the phone out and get a new phone with the version 04 already on it:

I was having problems after the upgrade and went in to get a new phone. After the upgrade the volume was still messed up, fading in and out, and the camera was still giving me that blurred view, and then voice dial commands couldn't recognize my voice, and so on. Now I got a new phone and I'm one happy camper.

As far as pictures go, you can get a cable and use bitpim as jason330i suggested, or just let them go. There are some things you just can't keep forever.

Well I got the phone swapped out and solved the problem with the pictures with a question mark icon. This new phone is still stuck on roaming and the manager at the store said he's seen a lot of these lately and didn't have a fix. So maybe there is a V5 on the horizon...... Stay tuned!

I downloaded the software and I think it was version 5 to my LGVX8199 last week in Seattle at a verizon store. You have to go to a verizon store and not to a mall kiosks. I have not used the MP3 player yet as I do not have a memory card. Does anyone know if while you are listening to an MP3 and the phone rings do you have to pull out the stereo ear plugs to talk?

I found that the car charger the Verizon store sold me for my VX8100 was to short to go into my accessory power port in my car (FX35) so I have to have it sticking out of my dash on my cigg. lighter. Nothing is standard it seems. It is frustrating
