i heard they are suppose to get some to north america soon....i cant wait for DISPOSABLE cars where you use them for like 2-4 years and throw them away....that would be awesome....and they are cheap too....i prefer this instead of leasing a car where you cant do jack squat with them and return the car after 4 years....

lol it's just because you're not from Toronto or you'd know that CNE means a fair at the Exhibition Grounds until Labour Day.

ok no offense rteenie.....if you went and read the d**n article.....it says that gm DAEWOO is sueing Chery because of how the Chery QQ resembles the Daewoo Spark (not on the US market) so how does it look like a chevy? which chevy have you seen that looks like a chery "QQ" ?!!

Posted by: The Rex

i don't think anytime soon
* they need to satisfy the chinese market first... why bother w/ NA crash testing and emissions, and the hassles of importing, distributing and setting up a dealer network when their home market will probabaly buy everything they manufacture
*

Posted by: crazyassazn

ok chevy part from me.....i still stand on it but then today i seen a chevy aveo? and i forgot about that car but still doesnt look anything as close to the daewoo spark/chery QQ

We don't need chinese cars here they already are. They are all copys of americans cars, minus the reliability.

LOL... just about every car today is a "world" car so to speak, since every car manufacturer sources parts from all over.

I kinda like some of those chinese cars, mostly the "executive" models.

Chinese SUV Gets Worst-Ever Safety Grades
Date Posted 09-20-2005

LONDON — The JiangLing Landwind sport-utility vehicle, one of the first Chinese vehicles to hit a major western market, received the worst-ever score in European safety crash tests.

The two-ton 4x4 scored zero stars in crash tests last week by the ADAC, the German automobile club, which carries out tests for the European market, the Times of London reported.

"It had a catastrophic result," said a spokesman for the ADAC. "In our 20-year history, no car has performed as badly."

The Landwind, which competes against products such as the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, was displayed at the Frankfurt motor show last week and is expected to arrive in British showrooms in a few months. It is already on sale in Germany, Belgium and Holland. A decision has not been made whether to sell the vehicle in the United States.

Safety researchers said a driver would be unlikely to survive a head-on collision at 40 mph in the Landwind.

What this means to you: Delete the JiangLing Landwind from your shopping list. Researchers warn it "belongs in the 1990s in terms of engineering."

i dont think it has anything to do with the country which manufactures it..but the manufacturer itself..

for me i dont mind driving a 'Guangzhou Honda' or a 'Shanghai GM' or a 'Shanghai VW'..but ill be relucatant to drive a car which is purely and made by local manufacturers..

I'm curious about your rant... all american cars are replicas of chinese? Thats a bit hard to swallow, could you explain please?

Bump...I just came across this. Jiangling Landwind SUV from China.

Quote:
The Landwind, which was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week, failed miserably in crash tests conducted even at relatively low speeds, German automobile association ADAC said in a statement on its website.

When a frontal collision at a speed of 65 kilometers (41 miles) an hour was carried out, the driver of the Landwind had 'no chance of survival,' according to the statement.

I don't think I have ever seen a car deform so badly in a crash test video. Pay close attention to the A-pillar. And to think that this is an SUV...

I think Chinese cars still have a long way to go before they can even be considered remotely competitive here, regardless of price.

Posted by: Skylinepilot

Wow, the whole dash was ready to kill someone.

Is it just me or did that kind of look like a Chevy Blazer?

Posted by: c^2

^ I'm not suprised - most Chinese cars are knockoffs of designs other manufacturers are already making.

Posted by: Skylinepilot

Yeah, my bosses frequent China and that's what they told me.

They also told me that there are a lot of accidents there because the cops don't enforce the laws but rather alllow accidents because the police run and operate the towing companies there. Eek!

jeez..heaven forbid DISPOSABLE cars...we can't even get rid of our garbage in toronto, let alone CARS.....cheap quality then chuck it away...

good point...plus take into consideration the increasingly protectionist american trade stance...i really don't think that congress is going to sit by lightly and allow VERY cheap quality cars flood their market without implementing the grwoing tough emissions and safety requirements..
