and if you don't have another carriers sim?

my old SE T616 had a menu that would show if it was locked/unlocked to the network

I have a Razr that supposedly be unlocked but it did not work overseas. By putting in another provider simcard does not always work. I have tried this with both Rogers and Fido and it works just fine. However, I was totally peeved when I went overseas and could not get any of the simcard to work over there.

That's because Rogers and Fido are owned by the same people. You can switch your carrier in the phone itself from Rogers > Fido and vice-versa.

Yeah I know they are own by the same people now. I did the test about 1.5 years ago when they were independent company.

Not anymore, the networks have been integrated. fido phones uses Rogers network now, but can not accept a rogers SIM card.
