Buying an MPx 220 on ebay

I was wondering if anyone bought a phone from a seller or store on ebay called Battery Mania?

Thanks in advance

That's where I got mine. It came in a generic box with a Motorola logo on it and didn't fit inside it so well, so I imagine it is refurbished (the auction didn't specify). But, regardless, it works very well - though it came with firmware version 1.30 on it, and no data cable included. But for the price, I can't complain. I was able to get a data cable for $7 on eBay (shipping included) from another seller.

I ordered it on a Friday and even though I paid for 2nd day shipping, it came on Monday! I don't think that is a reflection on BatteryMania, but I was excited nonetheless.

I have to say I am wholly happy with my purchase. With the phone and shipping (and data cable) combined, BatteryMania had the best price I saw for the MPx220. I say go for it. You shouldn't be sorry - I'm not.

Thank you so much for your reply I will buy it today thanks once again.

I bought my phone from Battery Mania as well -- I bought a black one for my husband, and it arrived today. I tested it with my battery and SIM card, and everything works fine...seems a little slow despite the 1.43 FW, but I'll leave the tweaking to my husband.

One thing, I was expecting the black version to look more rugged than the silver one, which is what I have. The black one is almost pearlescent, and it has an almost plum-burgundy-ish gleam...I LOVE IT! The thing is, it IS for my husband, and I'm worried might find it a bit girly looking. In that case, I'll have to be the generous, giving wife and swap with him, tee-hee

It is often referred to as "Ox-Blood" and not black I also purchased my MPx220 on e-bay, got exactly what I paid for. Just look carefully at the auction and the seller's feedback and you should be ok...

Oxblood? Now that's a term I haven't heard in a while...reminds me of my Doc Marten days. The 'black' phone isn't quite that reddish-maroon, though it's more....liver? But hey, if vendors want to call it that and scare away the no-nonsense techie types, why not?

Seriously, it's not the burgundy tinge that I'm worried about, but the pearly-shimmery sheen.

Thanks you guys a lot, i got scammed on ebay not to long ago and it turns you off from buying form there. You guys (and gals) have made me feel confident in my purchase thanks once again.

Do your homework and watch a few auctions till finish to know what the going price is. When I bought mine, one goes for ~ Cdn$350-$400. It also depends on the condition and what's included. Try to get one from a Canadian seller so you don't have to pay custom and tax. Be very careful with the seller's reputation before you bid.

If you do your homework and be patient, ebay is a good place to buy phones.

I have the the black pearly-shimmery sheen one and as a bloke I think its pimping... way better than the humdrome boring silver I say who ever has the personality for the black one gets its it its not a girly thing its about reflecting your self in the phone and the black one does that way better than the silver for me.

LOL...it IS pimping. And actually, the more I rolled the term 'oxblood' around on my tongue, it started to sound less poofterish. To minimize potential bias, I stuck to calling the phone 'black' when I presented it to my husband. He said, "Why, it looks more like oxblood to me,"...Okay, seriously, he really liked the color, shimmery-sheen and all. And so did his friends.

thats cos the phone is a potential fanny magnet....thats an entirely differnt meaning in England ie... men love it cos women love it

Don't tell me you your Doc Marten days are over! Though I never wear them anymore, I can't bring myself to ditch the old black boots sitting in my closet. Too much history.

Sorry, back on topic.

Well, Conan, I may just try to swap phones with my husband to protect our marriage...

iJITSU, I can't bear to get rid of mine, either, although the pair I do wear no longer has the formerly all-important yellow stitching

Back to the phone, I was able to do the data settings for his phone and it's up and zipping (I thought Cingular would have to do it, so we thougt to leave it 'til Minday, but then, a HF search yielded good stuff from Omega). THEN, I was going to look something up on my phone and I have no Web access. I checked and my settings are all correct...what could be wrong? Also, how do I set hm up for medianet?

Posted by: Omega2008

If he doesn't have a Data Package set up on his account or his line if you are on a Family Plan then thats why you can't connect...although you should be able too but I guess PPU is also disabled on his line/account. I would call up Cingular and add the 19.99 media net or media works package, you can ask them the difference...pick the one that he wants and try you settings again, if they do not work PM me and I will see what I can do for you.

Posted by: xtina

That's just it, Omega...we both always had data plans, and the only change has been an plan upgrade for him that I called Cingular about before I got his phone. Technically, the only thing we needed to is set his phone up (which was easy, thanks to your posted instructions), and set up MEdiaNet (haven't figured this out yet...is it a lot simpler than I think?). But now, my phone, which was pretty consistent as far as data connections go, says "Connection Error, unable to connect. Verify you have network coverage and try again."

Omega, you really should start a business where we stick our phones in a box and send them to you so you can make them kick butt.

Posted by: Omega2008

So your phone is not connecting but it did in the past? I am lost in what you are saying.....

Setting up the Data Connections is very easy to do, go to my blog and you will see the instructions there with pictures to guide you.

Now if you phone did connect fine then didn't, then Cingular messed something up on your account when you called them and requested media net on your husbands phone. Double check your settings and better yet post them here EXACTLY the way there in your phone.

Go to Start, Settings, Data Connections, Edit Connections, GPRS Connections, tell me what you have there, then go back to Edit Connections and go to Proxy Connections, tell me what you have there as well.

As for me starting a business where I "fix everyones phone to work and kick butt" would be a nice idea, unforutuanlty I am double majoring in Electrical/Computer Engineering (going to classes for 6 hours a day), Working, Giveing all kinds of "Tech Support" to my buddies at school and posting in the Smartphone Community that I wouldn't have the time do pursue such a indevor...thanks for the idea though, your comments are apreciated!

Yes, my phone had always connected in the past, and as of last night, it doesn't...or cannot.

Your data connetions guide with pictures is great...I used it last night to set up my husband's unlocked phone and everything's working fine. Barring the lack of a medianet shortcut.

As for what I have, it's exactly what's you instructed in your blog.

My guess is that this is a Cingular failure, so I'll try calling them. Wish me luck!

Thanks, Omega!
