I unlocked my Audiovox5600 I purchased online about a week ago. I inserted the included AT&t Sim Card to test it out before I got service on it. Well now that I have service, and a Cingular sim card, when I dial calls, it still says "WT&T Wireless" on the top tight. Also, a "little G icon appears too", I think it means GPRS, I think that's standard, but I don't know. How do I get the AT&T off? Thx

That "ATT" is branding. You have to make registry edits to change that (search for smt5600 branding or something similar). And yes the G means that GPRS is available.

Anyway to remove the G? It is very annoying to me... Isnt there a way to only see the G while an actual GPRS connection is active instead of when GPRS is avalible?

That AT&T shouldn't be branding, but the current network you are using. I have a Cingular-branded MPx220 and mine says T-mobile - which is good, since T-Mobile is my carrier. There are a few different things that could affect this text, and can be researched on this very site (HINT: do a search).

Regarding the "G" icon, I too would like to remove it from my phone, though I have not researched it yet.

Wirelessly posted (iPAQ 4150 & MPx220: MOT-MPx220/1.470 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 176x220))

gprsnoattach is what you want. look for it in the registry. whatever it is now then change it to 1 or 0. so if its 1 now then change it to 0 and reboot and it wont auto attach anymore. i dunno how this could be annoying but i guess. when your data doesn't work you wont have an instant idea why so you would have to diagnose. when your phone gets turned off the g goes away but you would still have signal so you would just be wondering why nobody gas called all day. lol. oh well to each his own

I like a clean interface. The little "G" icon makes for a cluttered icon bar at the top of the screen. I have had many phones that had the option to register itself on the GPRS network (so to speak) or not. When I wanted to get online, it still worked...

I dont think it would matter signal wise if there is a Icon on the screen or not. Granted, I understand your messing around with the registry, but still....

Plus like richy240 said, on my 6620 it was one option in the settings... "When Avalible" or "When Needed". I mean its not that big of a deal...

But, aside from all that, I tried the GPRSNOATTACH and it didnt work. My registry didnt have it so I added it and still, didnt work. So they're must be another way, or I didnt do it right...

-----------

*From Omega2008's blog*
Turn on the GPRS Available icon on the icon bar:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\GPRSNOATTACH
Change to 0

Did you try a "0" and a "1"?

Posted by: Knowledge

Yep. Both 0 and 1... I added a DWORD value in my registry in Decimal format, and I tried a 1 and a 0, rebooted my phone... and the G with the big box around it is still there...

Maybe its only for the MPx phones... Which would be strange since I thought they were almost identical...

That key only works on the MPx 220, it will not work on the SMT 5600 from what I have seen.

I thought he was referring to what was diplayed when you dial a contact, not when the phone in diplaying the homescreen. On my Cingular 5600, once you select a number and dial, "Smartphone" is displayed toward the top of the screen. As I recall, the ATT branded 5600 I used to have read, "AT&T Wireless". That text can be changed through a registry edit. If he was referring to the carrier name displayed when the phone is in standby mode/diplaying the home screen, then I have no idea.

this program he posts will remove it right? Or do I have to do something in the registry.
