8910: Have you successfully used it as a modem?

I get the feeling that I've probably missed something, but after trying everything common sense dictates, I still can't get my Virgin Mobile Flasher V7 to work as a modem.

I've installed everything under the sun (including the obvious Curitel drivers), and tried connecting while the phone was open and closed. No matter what, I get a hardware error message.

What I'm wondering is if I have something set wrong, or if this was one of the things Virgin decided to block in its version of the firmware.

So, I'm asking if anyone has successfully used the 8910 as a modem, and what steps they took to do so.

Of course, if you did it with the Flasher, we can nip this in the bud straight away.

Nothing, huh?

Why would you want to with a VM phone though? It would be 25 cents a minute for it, and plus it's so **** slow? Not to say you're an idiot or anything, I'm just curious as to why you want to.

To use in a jam (important emails etc), when a wi-fi hotspot is unavailable for a laptop.

That is one of the reasons the phone has a data port, you know.

I'm wondering if the Flasher can do it.

Oh, I see. That would rack up one hefty bill, I think using the $1 a day wap for an emergency like that would be cheaper, and easier, but hey, that's all you man.

I don't know why, but for some reason, you seem to think I'd be using it often.

Either way, I'd still like to know if other non-Virgin 8910 owners got the phone to work as a modem too.

No, i have all the drivers and it attempts to dial, but I found out that it is usually due to the provider not supporting data calls

Seeing as the phone supports data transfer (I even mean the Flasher specifically) and that Sprint is the network (which supports data), I don't see why it doesn't connect.

I'd imagine you'd have an easier time with a Cricket 8910, but you aren't, so I don't know what the problem is....

Come to think of it, Audiovox's handset manager said I had the wrong cable, when I tried to connect to my Flasher, so maybe this is an instance of when you'd need a converter cable?

i can get mine to work .. if you need modem drivers for it just let me know

Pleas state your provider and phone model.

Also, what do you mean by "modem drivers"? The drivers necessary are in the Curitel driver package...or at least I thought so.
