New Cingular Employee Phone ?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: drewpost

Hey, I just got hired at a Cingular Corporate store in So Cal today. My question is: I was told we get a free phone (as well as service) for all you Cingular people out there, a) is it any phone available? b) Would a brand new phone, oh I don't know, say the Nokia 6682 be available?

Thanks in advance guys (and gals)

LOL wish for a 6682 and you get a V551

Posted by: drewpost

haha, that bad eh?

OK- I literally just got the job offer today. If I wanted a 6682 do we get a discount on it? I know I'll find this out in orientation but I like to know what's going on!!!

Posted by: ivwshane

You get a 30% discount off the full retail price of phones. Your best bet for a 6682 is to try and win one. My guess is alot more contest will be coming out soon for the holidays.

Posted by: drewpost

Most excellent. For this phone I would just buy it right now lol.

Thanks!

There is a catch to COU phones.. you can use only 1500 mins a month even tho it says unlimited. they dont' care about sms, no more than 200MB of data, there are no roaming charges, but if you like your job keep 411 and long distance calls to a min. You will also get access to PTT soon as well.

Posted by: aaadock

where did you get the 1500 minute limit from... ?

if so .. then i guess ALOT of us are in trouble.. i dont think ive ever had a month LESS then 2000 ... that's not counting n/w.,,

I don't think this is totally true...as my friend uses his 6620 to tether to his computer and last month (checking the data counter on the phone) he used 750MB and no recourse yet.

Coming from being a former ATTWS employee (unlimited data, local voice) I can't understand why customer facing employees get so called "official use lines". Nothing personal against the people who have them but why does retail get unlimited lines and service get a limited line.

Honestly, I use about 600mb of data per month and i'm afraid I won't be able to get away with it w/ the unlimited Media pkg. Could really care less with the voice , 1000 min per month is plently.

I would imagine that it's a sales thing. Wouldn't want to limit communication with the client. In my former sales role I spent a good deal of time following up with customers and the such.

PERSONALLY- IMO as someone not responsible for a bottom line I think that very simply every employee of the company should receive complimentary service plans with unlimited use. Charge for the phones (with discounts) but there service should be free. Clearly this would be fiscally irresponsible but it would be a way to give Cingular that extra 'Edge" :-)

You work your way to being CEO and make that happen and I might consider working for cingular

I feel the same way, AWS was above and beyond what you could expect. Cingular is not bad, 2 lines for free, Verizon offers an employee plan for a few bucks but not that many mins, Sprint offers a discount on consumer plans. T-Mobile, don't know.

Well I applied at T-Mo as well just last week (I took the summer off and decided it might be nice to work in a tech sales job for college) They offer 2 $10 per month unlimited use plans to employees. 40% off 1 phone per calendar year per line (this gets better as you accrue more time in the company topping out at year 5 when the phones are free)

This was at a So-Cal store. BTW

BTW- Cingular seemed to offer much better starting compensation. (2.00 more per hour, no ramping commissions and free plans etc)

Whats the minimum age to work at a cingular store? I've got a few close and it sounds like a good job to me.

ok quit scaring this rookie with threats of plan limits. I just checked my anytimes and Im up at 3,245 ...do I care? No way...they better give me unlimited everything for the grief I go through and the amount of hold time I use to get thru to a)CARE b)relocations dept c)financial services d)the PAC

The point here is, that if its for "official use" you'd think they'd give out a few back door numbers to the variousdepts. The last good backdoor to CARE was disconnected here in CA, so no we're all doing IVR prompts like the next sucker.

As far as what phone to expect...it all depends on your manager. Ive heard of people getting teh Razr...I myself got a crud-bucket v220....once again, this matters very little...because there WILL be contests and you CAN but your chip in anything you wish....including a GC83 data card and go run up some huge use..... the beauty of the COU is that you dont even pay taxes... the ERP's while nice are dangerous...watch out for who you give those to....

Thanks man- That was quite comprehensive. So I take it this phone isn't for personal use then (or SIM card that is)

I travel internationally on occasion, do I use this card and get a discount or what?

FWIW, I've used 13000 minutes on my COU since I got my 6230 in February.

(averages out to 2100 minutes/mo.)

Also, data roaming is accidently allowed in cozumel, mexico. Not that I'd know :>

HAHAHA- That actually made me laugh out loud for real. All I'm waiting for is my first day which should be next week.

I appreciate everyone's responses!!

I can't wait to buy my 6682. Ive had my 6620 for over a year. This is the first phone that I have ever kept this long! 13 months and counting. Even though it works GREAT I still must replace it to keep face.

Yes! you are right! Shhh... secret. I got data up in Brazil, the UK, and on a recent trip to Thailand. So nice to use COU and never pay a bill...not even taxes! They blocked the voice but not the data.

there is not a limit of minutes on an ERP. the only things you'd pay for is international long distance, international roaming (or not...sounds like...lol...) and if you go super crazy with data downloads and such. as far as the phone it sounds like new employees are getting V551's but you can purchase any of them and get 30% off.....

ERP's are limited. COU's are not.

When you go to fill out your COU request, you can request a specific model phone, you don't have to do a v551. I picked a 6230.

you're right, I got them confused.....

Posted by: drewpost

so wait... I can choose which phone I use? Now I'm confused. I guess I could just wait until my first day at the store in a few days lol. How does this gig work? Do you get the phone out of the store's inventory, or is it mailed to us or what?

Posted by: grifflax

you can put your request on the form, but that doesnt mean your manager will approve it....I've heard of some people getting the Razr. All depends of your manager is nice. Once again, my big prize was a v220. Piece of doo-doo. Also, phone is shipped to your store... all I can say is stay on your manager and see that it gets approved, as it must be approved by the ARSM and someone else. Usually takes a couple weeks. Meanwhile you're free to drool over all the stock in your store....

haha, sounds good to me. It's the same way at Apple. All employees get an iPod after one month and it's up to the manager to order it. Unless you RIDE them, you aren't getting it on time lol

ERP's come after 3 months of service. You request those through a web form on "My Cingular" page. One is a 500 minute plan, the other is a 100 minute plan. You can add bolt-on's like M2M...but the ERP's do come with a good amount of TXT,WIX, and MMS free. Just watch out who you give those lines to because YOU are responsible for the bill every month.

Posted by: grifflax

Oops! My typo. One ERP is 500 min., the other 1000 ...

No worries on the typos. I figured. That's still a pretty sweet thing. Are they contracted lines? Or can I say let my brother have one for 6 months then turn it off then like a few months later turn it back on?
