Hello Everyone,

I recently replaced my damaged Audiovox 8900 with a Kyocera K494. I'm on contract with Telus and they would not repair the phone for less than $150 so I decided to finish off the contract with a K494 for about $100.

Then Bye Bye Telus

ANYWAYS -= This is my Question =-

I Have the cable for the K494 with software. The phone communicates with no problems. The preloaded ringers are great, the ones you upload are CRAP.

On my 8900 there was nothting it would not play, Wave files, Mp3s, Midi Sequences (Had Stairway to Heaven in its entirety)

The K494 only allows you to add .kws files

BitPim does not work, maybe someone can tell me of a similar software for my phone where I can see the whole file system. The Kyocere 2.4 desktop works well I guess....... If you like installing 2 bit sounds

Anyways... I believe you get the idea.

If someone could help me out,
It would be very much apprecated.

Thanks Again and Cheers

Just an Update.....
Gagin v1.0 Connects to the phone ( K494 )
You are able to view the file system

Still need to experiment inserting new sounds, it appears as there are midi files preloaded in the phone.

The first thing I am going to try is to overwrite the files.

Well, we'll see how it goes.

Cheers

Here is a recap of my findings:
  1. Was able to connect to Kyocera K494 w/Gagin and USB cable/driver supplied by Kyocera
  2. Gagin diaplys the phone files system (shows alll items as 0 bytes)
  3. Proceeded to copy files out, can not connect to device
  4. Try to copy midi files onto the device, the phone does not respond

If anyone knows of a different program to use, please let me know.
Tried BitPim 7.34 Official (Supports many Phones, tried them all, but no support for Kyocera)

Cheers All.

Hello Everyone.... I have managed to finally insert my own custom ringers into my Kyocera K494.

It appears that you do need the Kyocera software to open up the Com Port (launching the desktop software that comes with the cable from Kyoceras website)
Once the connection is made with that, I used the BitPim 7.35 Software and the Phone selection of the SCHP-8100 (Bell Mobility).
This connects to the phone and allows me to view the phones file system in Brew Mode.

I only added and removed from the folder of the custom ringers.
I tried to copy out the other preloaded ringers to make space for my own, however.... BitPim is not able to read those.... So for now this will have to do.

I am attaching a Cutom ringer I made for my now dead Audiovox 8900 (added to the shoebox of phones)

It is a midi file of SpaceOddity - David Bowie

Enjoy...

Cheers.

Hello....

As I figured out the trick on how to intall custom ringers on my phone, I now am more motivated to make my own.

This is a new one that I just made, its from the Beverly Hills Cop movie.

Let me know what you think ?

Regards and Cheers
