Recentally I tried to use my usb cable (with webjal, rss, etc) & I got a communication error... but, it works fine on my XP system...

this leads me to the conclusion that the USB drivers must not be compatible with Windows Media Center Edition...

can anyone confirm this... or post a work around... thx

I used to use webjal with my MCE. I have not tried in a while. but i do remember having trouble with it detecting my phone

Im running MCE 05 on my HP pavillion zd7280us notebook...and I have no problem with connection, upgraded from a system with MCE 04 (stock OS), no problems with the USB ( it was fresh install of MCE 05 if it helps)...

I have a friend who installed MCE 05 and have nothing but trouble with the USB and phone connection.....on HP zd7120us notbook (had XP home prior)

I have yet another friend, MCE 05 on his HP media center laptop (ze8000 series) and it works fine, but he threw MCE on his desktop (random pc), and has nothing but USB/Phone trouble

I've heard of this problem on many occassions, but have not pinpointed its origin or a resolution

if I find out any info I will post it... but, when I formatted with XP... it worked fine...

I have been trying to connect my i870 via usb to my dell MCE laptop and have had no luck. It shows that it was properly installed as far as a modem goes, but it i try to connect to the media downloader it will not communicate. HELP PLEASE!!!

The only way i can get it to work is to

1. start the program i want to use (ex. webjal) but dont try to connect phone yet

2. go to control panel, then phone and modems then delete nextel modem

3. then connect phone to usb wire and reinstall drivers and soon as it say finish install ready to use i click connect to phone on webjal and it works

but every time i want to use it i must do this process all over
good luck

I find it really funny that people think Media Center Edition has anything to do with it. If you people knew anything about Media Center (and I do considering I am an OEM MCE dealer) you would know it IS Windows XP Professional 100% identical ... with only three extra CAB files on CD #2 that have absolutely nothing to do with USB. Absolutely no freaking difference. If you download and install the USB Drivers from Motorola like you are supposed to, then you won't encounter problems.

If you still have problems ... which will occur in ANY version of Windows ... just unplug the USB cable and re-insert it over and over until it connects, and make sure all Java apps are terminated (not suspended).

I called Motorola software support and they told me that their software and drivers weren't compatible with MCE.

No, you must not have, because they ARE compatible with MCE. lol. So that, or Motorola doesn't have a clue what they are talking about. There is abosolutely, positively, 100% without a doubt, that if you can use it on XP Professional, you can use it on MCE. Why? MCE *IS* XP Professional. How many times do I have to say that?

I have THREE MEDIA CENTER PCs, all running MCE. THEY EACH RUN ALL versions of RSS, Media Downloader, LabJAL, WebJAL, etc etc etc PERFECTLY FINE.

Feel fortunate ryan. You might have gotten it to work with it but there are alot of us who have called and tried every method with no luck.

you must not have? so b/c your opinion differs, this guy must have lied? how about the more probable cause here, that motorola isn't going to support a modded and patched program that cheats them out of money. maybe that has something to do with it.

now don't get me wrong...i use webjal on two different computers with MCE, and they both work great. is that to say that others don't have problems with the same configuration, no. i got lucky. i'm sure you know better than anyone how xp mce works since you're an oem mce dealer, but the attitude really isn't necessary. state your facts and be done with it.

sorry all for the rant...
