Firmware Update & Vibrate w/ M55

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Since I installed the latest firmware on my M55, I don't have an option to enable/disable vibrate

I can't stop the phone from vibrating when I receive SMS.
Is anyone aware of a fix for this?

Is it the ver. 10 firmware that you are using? I haven't heard of such issue with that firware...just in case...here's the link to the Siemens site so you can cuble-check on your fw version (you've probably been there aleady):

Yes it is Ver. 10

I'll contact Siemens.

You know that vibration is called 'silent alert' on Siemens phones right?

In fact, it is called "Silent Alert" on my M55 with FW 10. I think this is because of the Brit English in FW 10. My M55 was modified from FW 9 (US English) to FW 10 on the day I got it, so I don't remember if the US English version says "Vibrate". I think it does.

Yes and that doesn't seem to matter. It still vibrates on an incoming call and incoming SMS. I got a ridiculous e-mail form response from Siemens advising me to troubleshoot on their web site, but I've been too busy lately to contact their management about it.

Check which profile you're using. I think the vibe settings are linked to each profile. Could be wrong though because my M55 is a garage queen - it hardly sees action.

Sorry to be off topic but can Anyhow explain what it helps by updating the firmware.Like what is the benefit of it.I am sorry if it sounds dumb but most of my phones I bought late and I just kept them stock because I had no problems. Thanks

Most phones, if the firmware has been properly developed and not rushed to market , should be able to function well on the original firmware. The firmware update usually gets rid of bugs found in early versions (e.g. improved battery life, no more random freezing, etc) or adds more functionality. Sometimes an upgrade will allow de-customization, e.g. removal of carrier branding, access to previously hidden menus, etc.

For me, I upgraded my M55 to version 10 because I wanted to apply some patches or hacks which were available to this specific firmware version. I also wanted British English as opposed to American found on Fido's version 9.

... Or Microsoft products with their bugs and security loopholes, but not as bad.
In the case of Siemens, you will need some sort of a flasher program, the firmware and related files, and a cable. With Siemens phones there's also the ability to hack a little bit more into the firmware and change pictures or themes, etc. I just spent half of yesterday doing that to my A56>C56.

^^Nice to have knowledgable ppl here. Also my C65 was bought in jully 2005 from Fido, so I assume it may have the latest firmware.I tend to purchse the phone after it has been for a while on the market.

It is wise to purchase slightly after a phone's been released. In the case of the entire x65 series, the early firmware had major glitches which forced a recall of all phones.

BTW, how's your A56 doing?
