Blackberry on Nokia 9300

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Buddhake

Whilst searching for Blackberry code for the S60 line, I came across the following interesting page with the code for 9300. I do not believe that this has been available prior. No warranty on how it works, but when I get a 9300 here I will try it!

Good luck

..but will have to try it on my friends 9300...

Posted by: danboy

I have an engineer friend at Nokia in the Dallas office who has my 9300 right now and is loading the BB client, then we'll see if my BB IT Admin can make this thing work, I'll let you know in a few days.

Posted by: nicholi57

great. if it does, i will pay a visit to our bb-admin also and get this rolling.

Posted by: danboy

I'll let you know, probably next week sometime.

I like the idea of Blackberry on the Communicator in theory. However, with the amount of emails I receive in a day, I wonder how the hinges on this device would hold up? I'd be opening and closing it every few minutes.

And the qwerty keyboard has no backlight...an oversight IMO.

not sure about the oversight... because of the hinge the display keeps the keyboard pretty well lit...

Anyone get this working yet?

I tried on my unlocked/unbranded UK version of a 9300 and the Blackberry portion never shows up as an account choice under the Messaging app..

running firmware 4.53 and I noticed in the latest 5.22 firmware it mentions blackberry connect a great deal..

I'm wary to upgrade though with all the PC suite problems with 5.22

edit..

just saw a confirmation that you do indeed need at least 5.22 Firmware for Blackberry to show up as an account type under Messaging..

Posted by: danboy

My 9300 is due back from my Nokia buddy today, he was loading the latest frimware and BB client, I'll let you know early next week my progress.

Posted by: wolwol

firmware 5.22 only for 9300/9500

download it here guys

Will this work with Cingular in the U.S.? I've heard people have been having problems with that.

I have the blackberry client software running on a Nokia 6822 without any problems (on T-mobile). I realize that is a very different phone, but it at least indicates that Nokia has a functional implementation of the protocol.

Posted by: danboy

I have my 9300 up and running (I'm in OH) with T-Mobile, so I would assume it should work with Cingular. I have voice and BB working. The T-Moblie retail guys were lusting over this thing...works great...

Posted by: tkao2025

Check out the press release. It should start to work for Cingular

Have you been able to send/receive PIN messages with BC?

By the way, T-Mobile seems to support push email with the 9300

Posted by: Mrkrman_1

This is going to sound like a noob question but what is push email when it just comes to a device or when it will go to my outlook and also to my device? I just purchased a 9500 and want a program that will make it so my email shows up in Outlook and also on my 9500. I have about 5 emails I have on Outlook and I will have to have all 5 checked constantly using some program on my 9500.

Posted by: evan_silbert

If you have 5.22 firmware, you should be able to install Blackberry Connect and ask your service provider to add Blackberry service. From the Blackberry web client, you can add your 5 email addresses and they will get pushed

Posted by: danboy

I have been able to sync the PIN and it does support push....it's worked flawlessly for the last week....phone service is excellent as well, great clarity, no dropped calls....

Posted by: evan_silbert

So you are receiving PINs on the phone? Which directory do they go to? I think they are hiding in mine...

Posted by: ajmaravilla

For those of you who are able to get their Blackberry client to work on T-mobile on their 9500/9300 could you please explain to me how you got it to work? I can't seem to get it to work on T-Mobile.

Posted by: Mrkrman_1

This is my first post from my 9500. Evan or anybody else, is there something else other then BB email service I can use to have my email sent to my new baby? I really don't want to pay monthly for this service. I am probably going to get flamed for this but is there something free I can use?
Thanks in advance

What country is your phone from originally? Is it public or internal? Looks like that may be the next release...

Posted by: freed0m

UK I am guessing since I bought it from Expansys-usa.com. I got the 9300 flashed from the local Nokia offices here in San Jose, CA.

Hey I am in North bay and would like to know where that Nokia office in San Jose is at. I would like to get my phone flashed there.

Hey guys I tried installing the software that is provided in the link later on the first page of this thread after trying to install the software from a1.com or what ever the first time I tried to install it from a1.com nothing happend (I know it's only just for 5.22 but I'm using 4.22) I installed the software from this thread on my 4.22 device and it installed perfectly? I just added the BIS service onto my account so tomorrow I'm going to do some testing to see how well/if at all it works. Anybody else running pre 5.22 have BC on their 9300/9500 working?

Hello All,

I just purchased an unlocked Nokia 9300. I am currently on T-Mobile USA and was previously using the Blackberry 7290. After getting the inital T-Mobile settings configures (GRPS, etc) and getting the S80 Blackbery Client installed on the machine. I was confused on what else to do to get this activated. T-Mobile requires all blackberry devices to send a register now signal to the T-Mobile network to get activated on the network (that is the only way it allows you to modify the IMEI/PIN numbers. If you dont register the device on the T-Mobile network it won't allow you to add the necessary IMEI/PIN numbers required to enable the blackberry.

Since I've seen several posts on people saying their devices work on the T-mobile network. Can you guys shed any light on how you got around this last hurdle I am facing? How do I activate the Nokia 9300 on the T-Mobile network to allow it to register the IMEI/PIN numbers?

Thanks

/g

i am currently using a 9300 witth bb connect software installed on tmobile. Since you already had a bb account with tmobile the process is easy. Assuming you have the latest version of the 9300 software on your device, otherwise it will not work, you do two things, go to blackberry icon account in messaging hit menu hilight receive, and at the bottom it will show register now. make sure you have are not in the blackberry account itself, but on the blackberry icon. once you hit register now you should get a message to your account. My experience is this is not enough. once this happens hit menu again go to tools account settings, and within the account settings hit editg and go to device info. step 2 is to go to www.tmobile.com and login, when you login it will say enable blackberry, go to that page, and under handelds you can modify the imei your bb account can work with. do that put in the 9300 imei and then save. then send the service books to your handeld. it should take about 10-20 minutes before it all works. you may have to turn the device off one time, but it works, let me know how it goes

good luck

what's so great about Black berry service?
I have never used the BB service...

If you depend on email for your business, you'll bless BB

Did you load the client onto the phone yourself. I can get ahold of a 6822b with version 4.48 without the client and am wondering if I would use the 9300 version in this thread or do I need to go elsewhere ?

Thank you for your advice in advance.

I tried using the BB service on the 9300. worked great as far as incoming messages go. Trouble for me was that the messages I sent were not stored on the handheld. I think there is some way to do this, but can somebody provide me with some help. Sure willing to try BB service again.
Thanks in advance.

I'll check my settings, but I have been using the 9300 for two months with the BBerry Connect client, no issues, it saves Sent e-mails. I didn't do anything special re the config, so assume it was my default settings.

Mine also saves sent items to the Sent Mail folder and I do not recall doing anything special.

My biggest beef is that Nokia's PC-Synch software has not been brought up to date to accomodate that blackberry emails go into a seperate inbox folder from the regular 9300 mail inbox folder. This means that when you go to synch your emails on the PC it is not going to happen. You need to delete emails from both the PC and the 9300 seperately. This is a pain in the ***.
