Sanyo C401SA Japanese Cell <--> SCH-5000 ???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok my gf sister lives in Japan and brought me back this phone...

Its the C401SA, which looks almost identical to the SCH5000,

I found out it uses CDMA800MHZ which is what is available here, but i dont have its unlock code,...

Another prob is that it is in Japanese, ( I can figure it out), but is there a way to upload a english version on it?

I was told its possible but i dont want to mail it back to Japan and back etc...

So anyways most importantly now is i want to set it to answer my old cell phone,

Any ideas?

Thanks
Arthur

Well, It looks exactly like the sanyo 5000 and the sanyo 5300. It only has a difference, the keypad language .

I'm not sure if there is a way to upload the english language. Maybe by updating the firmware? (maybe.. not sure at all)

I went down to the local cell shop and asked, they told me its not a problem, but i need the lock code (i guess that could be considered a problem)

I might have to get it sent to Japan after all...

I also have a Japanese phone which I used while I was in Japan... If you figure out how to use yours please email me, I would like to use mine!

Also, a lot of the phones made in Japan now-a-days have both english and Japanese on them...If that phone is new, I would be surprised if it didnt have an english option somewhere on it!

Good luck

Another thing to remember is that the Japanese implementation of CDMA is a little different. So, even if you have a Japanese phone that does "CDMA" at 800 MHz, you need to make sure it is a "Global Passport" capable phone (or something similar) before you try to get it working in the outside of Japan.

Humm,

I didnt know that, thanks for the info, do you know of any way of checking? I have no clue

Thanks

I'm not sure how you'd go about checking. If it had Globabl Passport then it'd probably say that, but if it has another system that makes it compatible (I don't know of any) then I wouldn't know what it would say.

The only way I can think of to be sure would be to call the Japanese provider that it was made for and ask them. I understand that this is probably not an option for you.

Good luck...

Hey.. maybe you could buy a cheap used Sanyo SCP-5000 and put the guts into this phone's housing!

if i buy a SCH-5000 used i might aswell use that, and save me the trouble.

Problem is its hard to find a used one here...
