Don't know if this has been asked, sorry if so, but I can't find a thread on this...
I usually take my favorite songs and edit it so I can make it into a ringtone, but it isn't working for my s66, I just got it yesterday
Is there something else I need to do? It won't play short .mp3 or .wav, maybe I have it set wrong or something...

I could be completely wrong here......but I don't think the S66 will play MP3s or WAV files. If it does, I haven't been able to find any docs (either on the net or in manual) on this.

FWIW.....I'm still learning the S66......only had the phone two days (S66 was a replacement from Cingular's insurance when I lost Nokia 6230b).

Kind of a bummer......I had a really kewl MP3 orchestrated ringtone of Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory that my kiddos liked....

All the polyphonic versions....not impressed.

HTH.

Same here, the recall on the Nokia 6230 is the only reason why I have the Siemens in the first place. It does play .wav but can't figure out which one will work, if you notice in the ringtone section, the siemen's tone (if you go to information about the tone) it says .wav

Yup...I stand corrected on the S66 being able to play WAV files. Haven't had a chance to play around with that yet.

If it plays some WAV files and not others.....total WAG.....it's something to do with the WAV encoder used? Me being from a mostly MAC background....not up on WAV technologies and such (other than I use Windows Media Player once a month or so for WAV movies).

S66 Can play WAV but you need to convert it to the right format
IMA/ADPCM 16kHz 16bit and mono
Try it out

As far as I know, Chop is right. It can also play AMR files, which can be made with Siemens own Mobile Phone Manager (they sound absolutely horrible, though). IF you go that route, I believe you have to have the phone connected in some way--bluetooth, data cable, etc.--before it will even attempt to convert a file.

Now all I need is a program to help me convert but I can't find one for Mac OS X!

I believe the Siemens tone is actually 8bit mono 8khz, not 16bit/16khz. I've not tried to see if 16/16 works, but I know for a fact that 8/8 does as a couple of the themes I have installed have some wav sounds in said format.

I think that x55 wavs had to be 16kHz and 8 bit, but X65 CAN play 16kHz and 16bit wavs!
Offcourse the lower kHz and bitrate settings will also work
