Oakley RAZRWIRE and 7100t

I wanted an excuse to get another set of Oakley shades and I needed/wanted a hands-free kit for the car. I found the Oakley RAZRWIRE online and went to my local store to check them out. They had just received them earlier in the day here in San Antonio and I was the first one to plunk $295 + tax for a set. What the hey? How often can you deduct Oakleys as a business expense? I went with the Pewter/Black Iridium/Black set. (Quick note on the other color choices: The silver ones (Mercury) looked a little funny in the contrast between frame and lens - kinda plasticky and the lens is more translucent. The platinum/gold iridium were too flashy for me. The blacks are classic, cool.) The earpiece is fully adjustable - right or left ear.

Most important it was super easy to set up with my 7100t. The instructions are for Motorola phones but work identically to what you need to do for the 7100t. On the 7100t, turn on Bluetooth, make it discoverable. Once the RAZRWIRE is set up to pair up with the phone, (follow the instructions), select Add Device on the 7100t and follow the prompts. I was up and running in no time. The range was pretty good. I left the phone in our bathroom and walked out to the living room (30-40 feet, 3 or so walls) with good reception. The volume is excellent. I don't think anyone will have trouble hearing someone in a crowd - I will try it out with the kids tomorrow.

The earpiece is easy to remove if you want just sunglasses or if you want to leave the earpiece in the car, which is probably what I will do anyways, and I'll bring it in at night to charge. It is charged via a small USB cable to the wall. Main bummer is no hard or padded case is included, but that seems to be standard for Oakley. $30 bones if you want one. I have two other pairs of Oakleys, no case either.

Anyways, I just wanted to post this out there, in case anyone wishes to try them out. So far, no regrets, but it's just my first day.

Ed

P.S. You get 30 days to try them out and return/exchange at the Oakley store.

Hey fast Eddie, How do you like your setup now that it has been a couple of days?

It's been awesome. Seriously, zero problems. I haven't tried to use the more advanced functions - I still dial from the phone and my BB 7100t doesn't have voice dial, which RW supports - but for the primary function as a hands-free headset, it's top-notch. Sound quality is great. My wife has me turn down the AC in my car because it's too loud when she talks to me. The mike is that sensitive. Aside from the fact that I can't use it indoors without looking a little strange, I'm loving it. No regrets.

Bet you never thought you would have to plug in and charge a pair of sunglasses!
