if you want to buy the right tools, you can do some mods. Not to functionality so much as appearance.

I have changed a couple of desktop icons and the address they point to, have customized the SMS tones and changed the startup and shut down graphics/tones. Some things are quite doable, but the SE phones are far less limited (and therefore "flexable") than are the Motos.
