K750i lens cover slide switch

Just got my k750i this week, and yesterday the lens cover slide stopped turning the camera on/off. So I took the back cover off and noticed that the toggle/slide switch was broken.

Does anyone know who makes this switch so I can replace it? I've checked ITT Cannon (who usually makes switches like that) and they don't have it. If I could get a part number, I can just replace that sucker...

OK, I think I've found the component:

It's a Panasonic detect switch.

however, I'm not sure which one it is. Can someone *please* (pretty please) take a picture of their switch and post it? My switch "toggle" has broken clean off, and I don't know how it looks. If we can figure this one out, it will potentially solve the "Open lens cover" problem everyone has been having.

BTW, my camera has stopped working because this detect switch is permanently open (closed?)

@dorem - IMO, because your phone is like - BRAND NEW, why don't you just take/send it back to the shop for a completely new one!?

Unfortunately, I bought my phone from Ebay, and I'm in the USA (it's not regularly available here). No warranties apply.

I'm pretty sure I can fix this puppy though....

Call me crazy, but I've now shorted the two contacts on the dead switch shown in the picture. That means that the switch is normally "open".

For those people whose cameras don't work anymore, you can probably just solder on a wire to these two pads and your camera will work again, but the slide won't turn the camera on anymore.

I personally am going to try to order the switch to replace. I've got some lab techs in my office who are really good at soldering.

i had the same problem... i´m thinking in ordering back at sony ericsson local suport the flat cable which has this little switch on it.

well, because I'm in the US, I probably won't be able to send back to SE for repair.

However, I'm thinking of ordering a handful of these switches, just in case it breaks again. I'm pretty sure which one it is now. It's the "long arm" one that is usually open. I found a better picture of it on esato.

Maybe someone in another country should sell these parts to people in the US.

yea i foudn it on CNN too. ordered it a week ago. came in today but i wasnt home to pick it up. dammn. im going to go pick it up tomorrow and put it in. will update and tell you how it is. hope it works.

yeah, problem with the switch on cnn.cn is that if you break it again, you have to buy the whole assembly over again.

I think I might have posted the wrong switch on this forum. The correct one is the long one, left side, normally closed switch. I'm going to order a few of these switches in case I break another one. Seems to be a pretty big reliability problem.

ok so i put the new switch in and well it still doesnt work. i open the camera cover and the screen goes blk for like a sec. looks like its going to change to camera mode but than just goes back to the main screen. this sucks. any suggestions? the light works atleast now.

Try operating the cam switch with the back cover off. Are you sure you haven't broken the new switch on assembly? My tip is when putting the back cover on, first slide open the lens cover. replace the back cover then close the lend cover. This reduces the risk of the mechanism damaging the cam switch.

heyy i got the same problem. my camera switch broke aswell. im not going to order another one coz my mum will kill me. is there anyway way i can do this manually so the camera opens. coz rite now all it says now is open the lens cover. please guys really need your help on this 1....

try sending it back to get it replaced? or u can try cnn.cn and order the camera cable from them. youll have to take your phone apart to peices to put it in. i did this and well it really still doesnt work all the time. id have to open and close the lens cover a few times for it to work but atleast it works. you can try it if u want.

i changed the casing on the phone already so no more warrenty. but i heard it takes a few months 2-3 to fix so thats way too long. im talkin US here...

anyways...so i bought 3 flex cables from CNN and none of them no luck. bought my last one from ebay and put it in yesterday. still no luck. the light worked buy the cam. didnt. took it apart and tried it like 3 times and all times didnt work so i gave up. than today i dropped my phone and the light stopped workin so im like ****! lol. i use the light alot. so i take the phone apart and reconnect evreything and now the camera works. im so happy. been w/o the cam for like 6months.

and i got the cable from hitechhk off ebay. doesnt seem like he has anymore tho. but u can buy from other ppl. it was like $18 shipped

i broke my switch as well, but im no expert im gonna need some help with a) aquiring a replacement (im in the uk) and B) installing the switch...

please help me as i really do like using my camera... i think... well id at least like the option to use it!

textual instructions on installation are ok, im pretty quick to pick these things up

but remind me to shoot an email @ SE ... why make it so hard to swap covers eh! breakable switches and t6 screws indeed....
