Sometimes the WM5.0 UI is really slow to respond. 12-key numeric buttons are somewhat hard to press so you have to use the edge of your fingernails for fast texting; Sometimes you get bumped back to the home screen when you're in the camera app - annoying (and no, I'm not accidentally pressing a button; WiFi works well but it took me a long time to find the MAC address in the phone to configure my router; Default themes and background images are poor; MiniSD is buried under the battery like on the SP3 which makes it hard to swap cards; Case is powdercoated and although I've only used it for 6 hours in total, it already has some scratches; Bluetooth activeSync was a pain to configure and it's still not working right with my laptop. //// Now for the pros: Small, light, slick, brilliant screen, great voice quality, quiet button action, side buttons are protected so that you don't accidentally press them; comes with a good stereo headset (not great, but good), the connection manager for bluetooth and WiFi is accessible from the Voice Record button on the side. That was smart; Battery came fully charged; takes great pictures (better than the SP3, better than my wife's V720) and has all the camera software and options you could want. Sweet.

sabesh, i havent found a valid workaround, but i think you can change your registry entries and make the IE Temp folder point to your storage card. Besides that just move all applications to the storage card. The memory management in WM5 reverts back to Smartphone 2002. Somehow, this memory issue caused Smart Explorer to recognise my OS as Smartphone 2002. |

In fact, I think parts of the SMT5600 might be cosidered more stylish than the SP5m. You will have to make your decision on it's added features, functionality and whether or not the styling is an improvement for you. For me however, WiFi, display quality, camera and imaging software, Music hotbuttons, industrial design along with WM5 made my decision for me. What's taken the shine off my initial excitement has been the ongoing quirkiness and seeming instability of the OS (Microsoft's hubris is staggering) and the fact that MMS is shamefully non functional. It is still the best phone I've ever owned. But as we all know so painfully, this is a subjective matter.

When the phone is in good coverage and has a full battery, the bootup time was measured from the second I pressed-and-released the power button to when the phone is completely usable and a call can be made. Coverage and battery strength will all impact this. I have not watched anything other than videos I've recorded on the phone. I would personally not watch any video on this phone. My HP 4150 is as small as I will go. |

The stock headset isn't bad. I don't have the problem with them falling out, but I wish they were a little more comfortable. I've already ordered a 2.5mm-to-3.5mm adapter so I can use my regular headphones for listening to music/movies/etc... As far as the speaker phone goes, again, I have not had any problems. Like hoto-p said, the sound from the speaker is good and I have not had anyone on the other end say anything about the way I sound. I'll check more into the speaker phone out-going sound quality tomorrow. As everyone has said already, the screen is amazing! I did try watching a movie on it. I put it on full screen and for the first few minutes I didn't think I was going to enjoy it because of the small size. Fast-forward about 45 minutes and I was halfway through the movie before I realized it! So you do get used to the small size, at least I did. I'll admit, its not the best way to watch a movie, but this is a phone after all. The movie was Super Troopers (great movie) and I streamed it from Orb.com via Wi-Fi. RF is much better than I expected. It’s on par with my Nokia 3230. I've been satisfied with the functionality of the phone, everything seems to be working fine. It does get laggy sometimes, but my 3230 wasn't all that fast either. I'm still getting used to using Windows Mobile. For example, I received an email, viewed it, and then exited. Later I went back to view the email again and it was gone. It wasn't in any of the folders (delete, inbox, outbox, draft, sent). Where did it go?!? Can't comment on MMS as I don't use it. I just use email to send pics or whatever. BTW, hoto-p, I remember seeing your screen name from way back! Its cool seeing members from the early days of HoFo still hanging around. |
