turn off text message Notify on audiovox CDM-8600

Does anyone know How to Or if it is possible to turn off the message Notify message on this version audiovox CDM-8600 phone. When I get a new text message it displays it on the screen, and asks me to read it. Can I shut this off, so I can just go in and read it myself without it asking.
