Think I'll send my SMT5600 back to Audiovox for repair

My phone has been acting very strange recently... it continuously fails to make send/receive calls - 60% of the out-going calls ends up with "3-beeps", which means no signal. And 50% of my calls disconnects/drops with "3-beeps", again... no signal. Of course, the signal indicator shows at least 1 or 2 bars (for what it's worth). So, it has been a very frustrating experience.

Since my gf got me the phone (on ebay) as xmas present, I can just "dump" it on ebay and get the supposedly "better RF" MPX220. So, I'll have to give Audiovox Repair a try. Wish me luck!

you might try using another SIM card to see if the phone behaves in a similar manner. if it does, it's likely the phone. i'd send it to Audiovox for repair first... otherwise, you could be trading one problem for another (e.g., the MPx220).

yeah... traded up my 4 yr old SIM for a new one just a week ago. I was quite optimistic about it.... until I realize it didn't fix the problems. Ack! We'll see. Maybe they'll clean the dust under the screen for me too.

If you do send it, let them know about the dust problem also. I heard that they are taking care of this problem by replacing the housing with a newer and better housing case. Let us know how it went.

Goto Start>Accessories>Clear Storage, this will reset your phone back to factory settings cleaning off everything you have done, also known as a Hard or Master Reset. I would advise using something like Sprite Backup before you do this, so when you get your phone back you can restore it back to it's current state (minus your signal problems of course).

I am on my second SMT 5600...for the exact same reason. I am also having issues with it freezing up.

Exchange By Mainl at Cingular has not offered me a solution at this point. I have been through 2 MPX220s through them. They told me that I was eligable for an upgrade. I told them I wasn't paying for a new phone. I don't know what to do!

Well the phone had actually shipped back to me on the 2nd but the delivery notification never ended up on my apartment door so I go the phone last Friday. They said it was not repairible do to a component being damaged and the PCB had damage, but they were nice enough to replace a few of the screws i had lost and the external antenna plug. So I decided I would use a small cleaning brush I have for a drimel, and clean off all around the areas they had put a sticker on. There was still some build-up from the water around some of the components and conections. So after a few times of putting it partly together and testing. walla its works!! the back button was the only one not working, but seems like with use it is starting to work now. Soooo happy, I had bought it about 4 months ago for a little more than what Cingular is selling them for on there site now, with a contract.

Well, I got my phone back. It actually came back within 1 week. They bascially ran it through some of their 2 page testing metrics.. (sent the report back to me with the phone) and everything checked out ok. Since they didn't find any problem with the test, they basically reseted my NVM (Non-volatile memory) and clean the PCB.

I thought that was kinda weak, but I guess whatever they did did the trick. My phone now works like before... and they even cleared the dust from under the screen. I'm happy again.

BTW, since I didn't have my sales receipt, I just wrote in my letter that the phone should still be covered under the 1yr warranty, since ATT only released it Oct, 2004. So, I only paid for shipping.

Majid23 - To find the repair site, Google Audiovox, and look up customer support. You should find their address and 800#

gryph0n, does Clear Storage clear the NVM?

What I forgot to say is that I had went swimming with my phone while I was in Cancun. It would not even power-up for several weeks after so took the phone apart and let it soak in saline solution for a few hours, cleaned all around the PCB with swabs and let it dry for several days. Well the phone finally powered up but most of the keys would not work so that is when I decided to sent it to Audiovox. So in short, if you get your phone back without them repairing it, the phone my actually work again.
