MPX220 online f/w server down or just my machine?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Used this exact setup to update a friend's MPX220 a month or so ago, now I get message about online server returning an error, try again later...

Is the server down, or is it just me?

TIA,
Richard

I was wondering the same thing.
Happened to me this morning.

I guess I'm glad it's not just me.... Anyone comment on the "safety" of doing an offline update instead? Care to point me to the tools to do that? (via PM if public discussion of this is somehow verboten).

Thanks!
Richard

I wonder if they are about to post a new update... One can always dream.

I'm just trying to get Cingular's 1.430 on there from 1.30

I found offline files at Surrealnetworks, but I'm not yet confident in that route. I noticed that when I did my buddy's phone, his mlf file had extra entries in it that aren't in the Cingular update on surreal:

IMAGE FILE = MDSBL-4-3280.bl
IMAGE FILE = 400G23280.m0
IMAGE FILE = MDSBT-4-3280.bt
IMAGE FILE = MDSYL-4-3280.yl
IMAGE FILE = MDSXL-4-3280.xl

Should I be concerned? *IS* there a noob guide to offline flashing? Should I just wait impatiently for Moto to get the server back online?

TIA,
Richard

Omega2008 has a pretty detailed guide on the updaters, and howto's for those that are getting into it. He also has lots of tweaks that you can do to further improve your phones preformance.

Check out his blog on Mobile Gadget News

Thanks! Yeah, I should have mentioned that I'd read his blog and that I was looking for something more detailed than that. Omega has a great page on the basic process of flashing, but nothing (at least that I found) that would explain the different files - beyond how to swap OPRs in the MFL.

I broke down and used the offline updater with the flash set my machine cached when it last was able to online update. That's effectively the surreal package PLUS the handful of extra files - since I noticed older revs of them in the surreal Cingular 1.39 even. Maybe there's some benefit to keeping older code for those pieces? One looks like a bootloader, another maybe bluetooth radio f/w, main radio f/w, I dunno?

For whatever perverse reason, I felt better applying the same pack that the online updater did. I figured getting the whole Cingular-blessed pack had to be worth something.

Well some of them I am not sure what they do...I couldn't find that much info on them.

No worries, I wasn't slamming you guide - it really *is* good, just explaining that I was looking for more detail.

I don't feel so bad now, if I'm not the only one who hasn't been able to find the info! I've been spolied by how much triplets-family info is out there, the MPX is not as well understood it seems.

Thanks,
Richard

hey, I am having the same problem. Been trying since yesterday to update my mpx220 but the server always returns an error - please try again later. How long do you guys think it will take for the server to get back up?

Hello all, I was having the same problem and finally got it to work. I had some firewall software running I had to disabled and it worked like a champ after that. So I would make sure you are not running some software to keep it from downloading. Either that or the server is just now backup and it was a coincidence

Server is back up for me - had machine with window open and just clicked "Retry" and now it's working, so firewall may not have been your problem.
