Customer: (in a deep southern accent) Dropped my phone in the water.

Me: sorry to hear that, give me a minute to open the account....... Unfortunately since you just started service and you don't have insurance you will have to pay retail for the phone.

Customer: Uh... Well I should probably add it for the future.

Me: Sorry sir I can't add insurance to a phone that is already broken and I would have to call you on it to verify it was still working.

Customer: How do you know it's broken? (he was not kidding)

Is it just me or is the craziest conversation you ever heard?

lol.... that's awesome.... customer's come up with the craziest things i love it sometimes.... and crazy enough I've heard that same thing before....

I have owned a phone for 6 years now and i have never water damaged one. I dont know how people do it so frequently. I'm careful with my phones, do people not care?

It's worse when they say they got it wet, then they hand you the phone. You say "how did you get it wet?" They say "it fell in the toilet". Well, thanks for putting it in my hand ******! I now refuse to touch a water damaged phone...you just never know...

Happened to me about an hour ago. spent the next 10 minutes thoroughly washing my hands. Clean water or not, that's just ******...

I'm Store Agent , We met those Customer almost EVERYDAY >> Gosh , Face to Face !!! Phone's Drop into water , Coffee , Laundry , Dog Chew , Ran Over .. etc that's comment >>>

I noticed many of Cell Phone's User (Customers) , they expecting there phone will LAST at least years or even LIFE TIME , without TAKEN CARE of there Cell Phone's

When cases like this happened we either get 2 result :

1. Customer Understood is there FAULT , willing to Pay for another phone or Claim MANUFACTORY Warrenty !!!

2. Customer Understood is there FAULT , but still trying to get advantage for FREE Replacment > Yelling "This is Rediculious !!" , "I Got multiple lines with Cingular , I'll Switch to other carrier" .. Bla Bla Bla ...

Now a day is harder for us .. Since Cingular had decrease the "Migrate" , "New Activation" , "Renewal" Commisions on 9/1/05 ... we are barely Survive after a few time decreasing Commisions .. .

I understand Cingular trying to get more HIGHER LEVEL Customers , the reality is POOR people's is more than Rich , People's get use to FREE PHONE's or I should put it this way : People wanted to SAVE $$ more than SPENDING $$ >> but OF Course , on the bright side , we still have many Loyalty Cusomters and Willing to SPEND $$ on Cingular >>>

Answer this question....

If a phone drops in water and it still works after you take it out. Is it still considered fraud if you add insurance to it? Granted it STILL works. Still charges, still powers on & off, still works...... ?!?!? eh eh?

They cut commissions again? I just left the store environment two months ago. How do commissions look now? Looks like I got out just in time!

That's a good question. If you were adding the feature over the phone the only check done is a call to verify that the device is working. There is also a waiting period before the feature activates (at least there was on the blue side, do know if that has changed). I guess it really comes down to the honesty of the individual because I can't think of a way to ascertain exactly when the damage occured.

I would call it insurance fraud because you know the phone is going to die and in a dying condition. Thats like hitting a pole with your car, then putting collision on it. Even though it still runs, it isnt in the condition it is suppose to be in when you sign up for insurance.

Ha! I work at a kiosk, as an agent, and I have a buddy back in Fort Worth who works at a corp. store. He's always trying to convince me that I should switch over when I graduate, that I'll make more money there. I'm like, well, I do pretty good over here, I don't have quotas, my upgrades count in the quotas I DO have, and I don't get pressured on features (though I mention them and suggest them on every sale, cause I like Cingular and honestly believe some of them are a good deal, like MEdiaBasic). I'll do without the stress, thank you very much.

Also, in December I'll have two degrees, Mgmt and Mktg. I'll skip the floor sales, thank you, come again. I'm serving my time on the floor now so I can hopefully get in a little higher, corporate b2b sales or marketing department or something.

Im gonna have to say its fair game. Just my opinion though.

So does working for COR really bite that hard? I work for an agent and i get paid fairly well. I have quotas because im the manager, but its nothing life or death.

yes there is a 15 day waiting period before you can make a claim. I've heard of CC adding insurance to the phone as long as you answer when it rings. in a store tho we're supposed to deny insurance if any damage is present.

But WHAT extent will a rep deny insurance? I recently purchased a liquid damaged phone from someone (motorola v551). Although the phone has a red sticker, the phone works fine. It charges fine, rings fine, answers fine. In fact, if the phone did NOT have the red sticker, i would have never thought it HAD liquid damage. Also, this isn't rare. I've seen 5 to 6 phones now with the same exact thing work exactly the same way. Fine and functional. As to how long it will last...who knows...however, if I see that a phone is working fine, i believe there is no damage present. This is synonomous with a customer bringing in a phone that has been dropped. If a phone has been dropped (Depending on which type of surface it was dropped on), sure there might be signs of normal wear and tear... however, if the droppepd phone still works perfectly fine..... i would see no reason to deny the claim right? .....

Now.... is this borderline fraud? I mean the phone WORKS...thats the most important thing right?

Posted by: BellaDea

the phone working is important for the verification. the normal wear and tear thing I don't pay attention to either. as far as water damage, if the sticker isn't red there is no way to tell but that also probably means there wasn't enough water damage done. the whole thing with the red sticker is the phone may work fine for a while but it's only time before the water really corrodes whatever is in there. as long as you don't get caught putting insurance on a non-insurable phone you're fine. but if the customer mentions something to someone who cares that's where you take the risk.
