Cingular branded Nokia 6682 ISSUES!!! ARRGGHH

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mobilehavoc

I'll start the list and hope other people are having better luck and even better can give me a solution:

* I can't for the life of me add shortcuts to the "Go To" application. Followed instructions but can't seem to do it

* After connecting and syncing my contacts/memos successfully with Nokia PC Suite 6.6, when I go to Install Apps...it does not show the apps installed on the phone...is this normal?

* Voicesignal trial started and ENDED today!?! WTF? Supposed to be 7 days. Each time I try to purchase it for $14.99 it never quite makes it through the transaction...so I hardly even got to try that out...

Will add more as I come across them...

Posted by: WirelessAndy

That shortcut thing sounds kind of similar to that Nokia 8800 bug some have reported (can't REMOVE shortcuts). Boy that sounds annoying.

What other bugs so far? I sense this thread will probably be re-named "The Nokia 6682 Bugs List" or something... Although the current title is probably EXACTLY how you're feeling at the moment...

Posted by: mobilehavoc

If someone can get the VoiceSignal app to actually register that'll be one big step....

I tried 3 times and I got 3 x $14.99 bills on my Cingular DB account but the app never activated. Seems the DB part works but the authentication part of the app doesn't work.

Forgetting the fact it was supposed to be a 7 day trial and i just got the phone today... and it expired today.

The Go-To thing is annoying but I can live with it....this VS I can't/

PHEW!! i though it was my newb to series 60 brain that couldnt figure out how to add things to goto!

Does the call log clearing after a reset drive you up the wall as it does me?

Posted by: mobilehavoc

I'm about to toss this phone against the wall...since VS is screwed up, it changed the mapping of the Voice Dial buitton to nothing....so the regular voice tags don't work either!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone zip up and upload the VoiceSignal app for me? I'm going to try reinstalling

Posted by: mobilehavoc

Does anyone know how to restore the button to regular voice commands at least?

...I've not got mine yet, BUT, if you do a hard reset, does that correct the issues?

Posted by: mobilehavoc

I did a hard reset and that fixed it but whenever the memory card with VoiceSignal was in, the button would launch VoiceSignal which would just ask me to purchase it.

POS. I just removed VoiceSignal...going to use regular tags...to hell with it. I'll call VoiceSignal on Mon and see if they can help me out.

I got my 6682 today as well and so far I'm leaning to the idea of ebayin' this thing. its just not all that once you've had a few minutes to play with the darn thing.....

Really, what's wrong with it? I've not bought one yet, got the Rokr at the moment, but I guess you could save me some money, by me not getting the phone if it's not all that...

well, there's nothing really "wrong" with the phone. Its doing what its supposed to be doing. I guess I've just been used to my 6620 for so long that this 6682 is reminding me of my 6620 all over again.

I guess I just though that the 6682 was going to be a completely new S60 beast altogether. but again, its very much like my 6620.

I'm going to play with it until tomorrow night. I will then decide weither I'm going to keep it or ebay it. I'll be happy if I can just get my money that I have invested in it out of it.

Posted by: Omega2008

If you deciede to sell it PM me.

why not just send it back for a refund???

Posted by: mbranscum

I'm probably going to get a refund...I like my SMT5600 alot better. The system does't seem any faster than the 6620. Other than slightly smaller...I see no real advantages.

Posted by: mobilehavoc

Already posted mine on eBay...happier with my Nokia 6230b

Posted by: Cuba

lol..thank the gods for "early adopters".

Posted by: Rcadden

Mine should be in Monday. Perhaps I should keep my 6620 just in case....

Posted by: Omega2008

Not that good of a device huh? Glad I didn't get it then. I will keep my money for the HTC Typhoon then.

Posted by: Cuba

why would nokia put less memory on a device that suppose to be superior to the 6620?

Posted by: mobilehavoc

There's NOTHING wrong with the phone actually...it's just not what I want...emphasis on the I.

My biggest issue is not a bug but normal for the 6682...you can't initiate voice dialing (any kind) with the BT headset. This to me eliminates a huge advantage of BT. I'm sure there are plenty of people who could care less that they have to press a button on the phone.

Either way, I'm sure it will make someone very happy...it's a great deal BTW:

Posted by: DaleJr#8

here's something that I just realized about this phone (which isnt a good thing).

the chrome part around the camera's lens gets scratched VERY EASILY by the lens cover when its opened and closed.

heck, I only used the camera twice today and the freakin' chrome ring around the camera lens is already scratched. I guess it looks like I'm going to have to ship the phone back to Cingular now because I cant sell a $400 phone that technically has scratches on it.

strike two against the 6682!

Posted by: bramsey1973

Folks,

Might have found something here that most will not like.

After making and receiving several calls on the Nokia 6682 I have noticed that if you shut the phone off and turn it back on then the call logs are blank. I have changed the log duration to different time periods and no difference. This does not happen on the 6620...wonder if it is how Nokia is dealing with the small amount of system memory(10mb). Not sure what else it might be flushing out when turned off.

Hope your battery doesn't run out...

Let me know if you see the same thing.

Thanks!

Brandon

Does the 6682 not support the hands free profile?

Posted by: bramsey1973

Figured out the call log issue!!! You MUST use the new 64K GemPlus Sim card that is shipped with your Nokia 6682 or the call logs will not be saved. You must call Cingular and have them activate the new SIM card.

Thats it...problem solved

No clue...what's odd though is if I hold down the button on my HS850, the phone redials so maybe it's a half-*** implementation? It could also just be some issue with the Moto HS850...either way, I love my HS850 like there's no tomorrow and one of the most important requirements for me with any new phone is 100% compatibility with it.

Posted by: kuj

I have the HS810 and if I hold down the button, it redials the last number. This is with a 6230. So it seems like it's working on the 6682.

Posted by: mobilehavoc

kuj, yeah but if you press it once it doesn't initiate voice dialing like on the 6230b. IMHO, for what I need, the 6230 is still the best phone out there. The only thing that comes close is the K750/W800...if only they had 850mhz

Posted by: sha12yog

How is the browser? can you access full HTML web pages just like MPX220? Web pages like yahoo, MSN, howardforums!!?

I got one of the unlocked ones from Nokia when they were available. Stuck with my 5600 as well. However, if they've corrected the memory full error issues then the 6682 is a very nice phone. Just happens that Windows Mobile Smartphone works better for me (and will work even better when I get one of the new handsets coming this year). For those that have a Cingular branded 6682, have you had any memory full errors yet?

Is that a blue 6682 or orange? Through NBO?

I thought this phone wasn't available through cingular yet?

Posted by: grifflax

mine is a Cingular branded 6682 unlocked, came from a Nokia engineer in Texas. So far, all of these annoyances have not turned me off from really enjoying this phone. Pop3 email works well. Reception is classic Nokia excellence. The MobiTV is much better than on any phone I've seen yet. MP3 music sounds clear (although the need for a bigger memory card is evident) It sends post cards thru the mail of the photos taken, and it even sends a user customized sms to anyone that calls and doesnt reach you. If its not a full PDA that you need, then this phone is a good alternative.

My Jabra 200 BT initiates voice dialing from the headset, push the little button behind me ear and say my thing and off I go. I did this on my 6620 and the 6682 I got my hands on this morning.

Posted by: bramsey1973

Well back goes the 6682 to Cingular. They are going to replace it with a new one since I am having so many issues with it. My firmware version is 3.01.1...6-18-05...RM-58.

The two main issues are:

1: Call logs disappear after turning the phone off and back on. Yes I have checked the settings for call log retention.
2: Phone will ask me several times if I want to copy the sim contacts to the contacts on the phone.

This phone has issues and I am worried the replacement will be flawed too. Let me know if you have seen these issues on the same firmware load.

Thanks!

Brandon

To save the call log you have to use the Smart sim that came with the phone. Your phone is fine.

No actually not. I was the one who posted the fix but it worked only for a short time and has died again. The sim card does not fix the probelm permanently.

Just spoke with Nokia and they recommend that I send the phone back to Cingular.

I have seen one other person having this problem...anyone else???

Brandon

Posted by: mbranscum

Mine has the same problem but I thought it was because I was jusing the old sim card.

What makes you think getting another one this soon is going to fix the problem? Seems to be a firmware issue. What did Nokia say besides sending it back???

Nokia was clueless. So, I have decided to send the 6682 back for a refund. I am going to wait a few months until this has been sorted out.

Good luck everyone with the 6682...I am sticking with my old 6620 for now.

I find it somewhat amusing how people seem to be expecting the initial release to be perfect. I've yet to ever see a first firmware revision work 100%. There's always a bunch of little bugs. That's what getting a free firmware upgrade through Nokia's warranty service is for.

You know...I initially said I would send the phone back but the more I use it the more I like it!

Well I would normally agree with you. However since this phone was pushed out from a release standpoint because of firmware issues I find it completely ridiculous to find such simple things broken.

This kind of reminds me of the problems with the Treo 650 and how flawed it was compared to the 600 right out of the box.

Posted by: mobilehavoc

I'm glad that others are at least enjoying this phone. It is a great phone but has too many issues for me personally. The fact that the BT200 initiates voice dial with the 6682 is fine but there's no reason the HS850 shouldn't work when it works with every other BT phone I've ever had since the T68i.

To me this is just shoddy firmware. I'm not about to change my BT headset to make it work for a particular phone when it works with every other one.

In the end, it wasn't such a sad ending, I ended up selling the phone on eBay so I got my money back. Good luck to those who are keeping it.

FYI...I had the issue with the call logs and asking me to copy sim contacts to the phone too....I was using the 64k SIM

Mine works just great, oh wait it's unbranded

Posted by: naviwilliams

...I've just got the ROKR, is it still worth me getting the Nokia 6682? I've always been a lover of Nokia, but been waiting so long for a "newer" model, it was becoming a joke!

Now, I've read about so many people having issues with the Nokia 6682, so what gives?

So far, it's all sounded like the standard complaining when new phones are released. I can only imagine what the Cingular branded firmware must have been like a month ago, before the fixes were in. Of course, it's also possible that there were no firmware fixes in the last month, and in reality, the delay was due to the contract renegotiation others have mentioned here...

Alls I know is that my 6230 is incredibly excellent, despite having 4.43, and given the complaints I've heard so far, I'm not too worried. Of course, I rarely look at my call log, anyway.

I'll report back Monday as to how well voice dialing works with a BT250.

Posted by: DaveTreo300600

i also have the call log issue but do not know if that is enough to give up this great phone - i can initate voice dial with my recorded tags from my Moto HS850 - but i can NOT initiate VoiceSignal with it - btw, i really like listening to MP3s on my 850 bluetooth headset!

Posted by: wierdo

Isn't the BT200 the headset with the adapter that plugs into the pop-port? If that's the case, with a BT200, the phone's bluetooth implementation has nothing to do with the functionality or lack thereof of the headset. Unless you're just using the headset without the pop port adapter...

Posted by: mona13

The more I play with it the more I like it. I have been sooooo frustrated with the mpx220 audio issues.

Even with the call log issue, which will probably be fixed soon, I think this phone will be a "keeper". I had the 6230 for a day or so and returned it. It just didn't do enough of what I wanted.

Mona13

Posted by: JDSNY

I spoke with Nokia last night about the disappearing call logs issue. They said they've had other complaints and are "researching it." They said they didn't know of any fix, yet.

thats probably why it works great because your phone never had the chance to get F-ed up by Cingular's engineers.

True

Posted by: mike41423

The call log thing is quite frankly annoying.

Has anyone had this issue where upon initiating a call, whether receiving or dialing, you get a wierd echo in the earpiece? I guess it sounds like garbage to the person on the other end. I have only had this happen a handful of times, just curious if anyone else has heard this.

Posted by: ivwshane

What do you mean by wierd? I get echos alot but it's cingulars network not the phone. The echo sounds perfect if I wanted to listen to myself.

Posted by: mike41423

This isnt the network, I've heard that before and I dont have the issue on my 6230.

I dont know how else to describe it other than an echo. If anyone has heard it, they will know what im talking about. Its very apparent if its happend to you, you cant miss it.

Posted by: kuj

Just curious but how often do you look at the call log and what do you use it for? I almost never look at mine so it's not a big deal for me.

As far as the echo thing, I have not heard it on 6682. I've had echo's on my 6230 before but that's because of the network like ivwshane said.

I just recieved my Cingular branded 6682 and none of the applications that are loaded on the MC card are working. It looks like the MC card is junked. Can anyone help me out by zipping up the contents of the memory card and getting them to me so that I can format this thing and get a working phone?

Thanks

Posted by: Rcadden

Well I decided to keep mine, and just play with it until a new fw is released. Of note, I did get rid of Opera and Voicesignal pretty quick, and haven't had quite so many memory problems. NetFront is awesome cause I can set the cache memory on the MMC rather than the phone, and I get to choose what size it is. I personally think that Opera was a large source of the problems. The call log thing annoys me but I'm getting over it. I mean, I have them in my phonebook, right? The contacts question isn't really a big deal at all.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Has the 6682 been pretty resistant to dust creeping under the screen, or has anyone seen it happen to theirs yet?

and what was that? the 6230 does jsut about everything. as a matter of fact, the 6230 has some things that the 6682 doesnt have like the FM tuner and the ability to use plain old MMC cards unlike the 6682 which will require one to purchase yet ANOTHER form of memory unlike the MMC which is very common and very reasonably priced.

yes, I do know the 6682 does come with a RS-MMC card but its too damn small to even bother loading stuff up on it.

Posted by: mona13

With Cingular, I didn't want to take a chance on losing the grandfathered mediaworks plan, so I haven't tethered my phone with my Dell x50v. When I tried accessing HOFO and Yahoo on the 6230, it just wasn't quite what I wanted. I wanted xhtml & html, desktop like, etc. I couldn't get into HOFO at all. I don't want a combined PDA and phone, I want them totally separate, but I really like the smartphone aspects of the 6682. It's a little PDA like, but not as large as a PDA. I also like the slightly larger screen. (I don't see quite as well as I would like to, even with mono-vision contacts.) MobiTV is good too.

I didn't mean to knock the 6230. My daughter has it and loves it. It's the best phone she's had and she won't have one that is any larger. She wouldn't think of trading for my 6682. She has the $7.99 grandfathered media basic plan and very seldom uses the internet. It meets her needs perfectly.

Both the 6682 and 6230 have excellent reception. The reception is better on both of them than our previous Motorolas (mpx 220, v551 & v600).

Mona13

(I don't need the FM tuner and I bought a 512 memory card from USAMemory. I'll probably get the 1 gig when it's available.)

Oh, & NetFront solved most of the memory problems. I'll probably remove Opera too, like someone above.

One feature missing on the 6682, that I had on the 6230 is the birthday entries on the calendar. When I enter someone's birthday on the 6230 calendar, I'm also able to enter the birthyear which automatically calculates the age. It's a nice feature to help you keep track of someone's age (especially your nieces & nephews). Considering that the 6682 is a Smartphone, it should had been available. All I see on the 6682 is a birthday/anniversary reminder.

Thats funny I had a similar problem last night.

I couldn't connect either, the GPRS icon kept flashing.
I just power cycled the phone and now it works fine....

Posted by: Fuzzert

Has anyone been able to get VoiceSignal to actually work after the trial period expires? I've tried several times to purchase it, it gets all the way through and then gets to a "page not found" on the browser and doesn't purchase correctly.

Also, I'm having the same problems with the thing losing the call-log upon shut-off and also the problem with the thing is asking me to copy my sim contacts into my comments....

any hint on when a firmware upgrade might fix these things?
