2 new iTunes phones by xmas?? Conspiracy theories and pic.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

You don't have to look hard at this lovely display to notice these 2 things:

1. The display is clearly an iTunes dedicated display.

2. There are 2 empty slots for phones.

Now, for those who are in the industry, you might have heard about "Project H", and my manager has informed me that the above pic basically represents that project. I would assume its this project that's responsible for the stores having no idea they were getting the ROKR until about 4 days before. Also, with the changes in the ordering process for equipment that's going on in corp locations, somethings going on, and I dont know what it is. While I know IHAP probably knows for sure, this is my theory.

We will have 2 new iTunes phones from Motorola by years end. What phones these will be I have no idea. If anyone hears anything, or has any ideas, please fill me in.

I didn't know of a great place to post this, but I thought it was an interesting observation. I know how some in here hate speculating on what going to come out, but somethings definitely going on.

This sounds interesting. The image is not displaying though.

Hmm, it shows up on my work and home computer.

pic works for me too.

i think they can basically make an "iTunes" version of any moto, as long as it has a TF/microSD slot. they just need that one button (most new ones already have an extra button for MEdia Net...they could just use that for iTunes instead) and a custom firmware/flex.

That's weird...I can only see an x for the picture and for the picture in Tripy's sig. I guess you can disregard my post then.

Anyway, I hope that this is one of the future ROKRs released on Cingular:

http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/...rokr&h=p1030162

According to phonescoop it has a scroll wheel, but no ITunes...which seems a little weird considering it appears more Ipod like (i.e. scroll wheel)

edit: must be my work firewall

Posted by: VTECaddict

maybe your work or home firewall or something is blocking the server.

Posted by: macizcool

I'm sure there will be new versions of the ROKR that are more iPod-like. i.e.: scroll wheel and more than a paltry 512MB of storage. The least they could have done is made the 512MB internal, and then have a slot for additional. I feel like I am back in the year 2000, where flash MP3 players had a maximum of 512MB...

I hope a version of the firmware has the app that can be taken off and put onto a V635.

Now THAT is what I call sick!

ok. wishful thinking/deaming here...

who said iTunes phones must be Motorola? maybe Nokia will make an iTunes version of the n91 with UMTS1900/GSM850/1800/1900 for cingular/apple? 4gb storage, with dedicated media buttons. or maybe something based off the n91, but instead of the media buttons, it has the iPod's click wheel.

Posted by: pvn

Is this display really "dedicated" to itunes? It looks like the itunes placard at the top just slides into the back of the display.

Given the many years (maybe decades) of Motorola's business relationship with Apple, it's not to be a surprise that iTunes phones are from Motorola. I would not expect to see an iTunes phone from other manufacturer untill Motorola has had some time to cash on a few models.

Posted by: macizcool

I am pretty sure that Motorola's processor division is completely separate from their phone division, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. Maybe someone else could chime in with some cold-hard facts...

Posted by: jackbnimble

When I was in the cing store yesterday I asked the salesman point-blank why the advertising banner said the ROKR was "The world's *first* phone with iTunes." (I would have thought they'd brag about it being the *only* phone with iTunes.) He surprised me with his frank answer: "Because we're getting a Sony Ericsson one before the end of the year."

No more details, of course. :-)

Sounds like he's implying the W600 will have itunes... or perhaps a Cingular-ized version of the W800 with GSM850 and itunes? I can't see the W600 having itunes since it doesn't have external storage. The W800 lacks GSM850, but that can be fixed in short order.

ha tripy! i was working today and saw and thought the exact same thing, I was going to post pictures tomorrow!

Yeah, that's somewhat correct. Freescale Semiconductor was actually spun off a few years ago...the date escapes me at the moment.

From what I read somewhere, Motorola and Apple have a contract for this IPod Phone thingy....and Motorola has a deal with Cingular so...

Logic leads you to believe that there will be two more Motorola phones with ITunes support...I'm sure they will support more than 100 songs for more money.

I love my 6230b, only limit is the space available...currently have like 300 mp3s

I know this is my first post but I know (don't ask how) that there will be future MOT itunes phones and this will be the look of the next one, the ROKR E6.

I'd wager dollars to donuts that there'll be an iTunes-capable flip phone (probably a new version of the V635) by this time next year.

Because people gotta have the flips.

The first flip with be the V3i (RAZR with itunes).

How about a Black ROKR? They could call it "RAPR" (as in RAPPER) edited by tripy

Posted by: VTECaddict

lol. good one!

Posted by: hamfly

About the issue with Apple + Moto...

If you watch the Apple broadcast for the realse of the ROKR, Steve Jobs hints that Moto is gonna be the only supplier. Also, I can't see why Sony would put out a phone with itunes considering their Walkman is a competitor to the ipod. Just doesn't make sense. Who knows though.

if this is true which i hope it..tha t will be GREAT

Posted by: gfunkdave

I hope that if Motorola releases further iTunes phones, they will also revamp their awful UI. They need a better UI (hello phonebook!) more than they need iTunes.

And that comment about the RAPR was just in plain bad taste.

Posted by: .7

I believe he meant "rapper" instead of what your thinking.

White phone called "ROKR", Black phone called "RAPR". Sorry if that offended you, but I thought anyone could see I clearly meant rapper, as opposed to rocker.

SGH-i300??

**** right there with you on that phone! i saw it about a month ago and was like...

anyone know anything about this phone??

Posted by: newtype2011

They should have released that instead of the silvery 398...then people would get it because it at least looks cool (if they don't care for the itunes capabilities) -

It was clear to me, I don't know what you other guys are thinking of.

Well i just didnt understand why the white one would be call ROKR(rocker) and the black one would be call RAPR(rapper). The phone is call rocker(ROKR) because it can play music so that wouldnt change in a black verison.

not to be racist or anything, its just how it actually is...
most rockers are white...hence the white version would be called "ROKR"
most rappers are black...so the black version should be called "RAPR"

its not funny anymore when you have to explain it...

question is...what were you guys thinking he meant?

Posted by: shortyd999

^^ I didnt know what he meant at all. I was still trying to figure out what RAPR ment.

And now that you've explained it, that wouldnt have been funny if i got what he ment the first time I read it.

Posted by: macizcool

Well, I knew that it was supposed to say "Rapper," but I didn't catch on to rocker vs. rapper status, I thought it was just another idea for a stupid Motorola naming scheme.

Posted by: James318

For those who haven't figured it out...

I am pretty sure people were thinking "Raper"... which isn't even the proper term... The proper term would be "Rapist".

"Raper" however is an antiquated French term meaning "to abduct". "Raper" is not an english term.
