WM5 for SMT5600 - Does it fix MMS

Hey guys,

I wanted to know if anyone has tried WM5 on their Audiovox smt5600 using a canadian carrier (Roger/Fido). This phone on these networks is unable to currently send and receive MMS with WM3. I'm looking to purchase one, but MMS is a necessity for me.

Anyone have any input?

i've tried WM2005 on my SMT5600 and MMS does not work at all.

Crap... is that because it was not a final release of WM5 for the SMT (i have no clue as to the status of WM5) or is it because there will be no official release for the smt?

Its a high possiblity that it won't get a offical upgrade to WM5. With so many new devices comming from HTC there is no need for it.

That's what I was afraid of... I really only want the upgrade so that I can use MMS on my carrier

If you look carefully at WM2003SE it technically does not have any MMS capabilities. The MMS capabilities that you are using is an add on 2rd party product that the carrier adds before releasing the device. This holds true for WM5, all of these builds of WM5 that have been leaked (inlcuding the 5600) do not have any carrier customization hence no MMS.

Are there any other MMS apps I could try for the 5600?

I am with fido and a smt5600 and ended up using their mms web service to sent images from my phone... Arcsoft mms app is broken here in Canada but no one has provided a reason why ? i too doubt there will be WM5 update but believe there will be people extracting WM5 with mms support from their new HTC device and will be able to fit the firmware on a 5600 after modification... until then no mms.

koifish, with the MMS web service I'm guessing you're still uable to receive MMS meesages, right?

yup only works to send MMS, wich is a pain but does the trick.

I just read that WM5 also seems to break the camera. Wouldnt it be ironic if this were the case but MMS started to work

It "breaks' the camera because again that is one of the pieces that is added to WM5 by the phone development company (HTC in this case). The base 5600 WM5 install is a development build that does not have any manufacturer or carrier customizations, hence no MMS and no camera.

Does it break any other features (bluetooth?)

I wish I could the post but I know I read someone who went to wm05 on their 5600 and said the caller id now worked with their bt800 headset among everything else so I would assume bluetooth does work but I can't find the post..

Bluetooth works fine. It uses the MS bluetooth stack that is included in WM5.
