But if i try to port scan the sx66 or try to connect to it from my house computer. It doesnt connect and the sx66 firewall shows nothen connecting

great question..!

I am doing something with my data card that requires someone "look/comein " thRU A certain port..

they get nada!

I dont know a way around it ... call tech support and they did not know what a "port was or did"

so bumping your topic to see if some one konws..

If you read Cingular's developer site, you'll find that isp.cingular doesn't allow incoming connections. This is in accordance with the "no servers" policy, even on Data Connect. If you need incoming connection, you'll have to get a private APN setup, with an IPSEC tunnel or leased line to Cingular.

anyidea what it would take to run a server from a data connect card?

thanks fo your help//

The easiest thing to do would be to use your mobile device to set up an IPSEC tunnel between it and your network. You can then assign the tunnel device an IP from your network, which can accept incoming connections.

Setting up an IPSEC tunnel with Cingular itself is a very expensive (but much faster since the IPSEC encryption isn't applied until after it passes over the radio channel).

hey wierdo... thanks for your help..

lets see my "mobile deice" is a data card..

my "network" hmm.. can m,y home cable connection be "my network" ?

maybe there is an easier way .. if not mind walking me thru the process?

mind if I bore you with some details.. ? no?.. thanks here ya go...

what I wanna be able to do is simple..
I wanna use this .... www.webcamxp.com and connect thru the laptop so a simple link will let however i need see what is on.. using that caus ei use it at home and it is awsome.. and free.

\
what I find wierd is that I can use YAHOO messenger to get the video out live and it works fine.,., how does yahoo get thru the ,,, wait is yahoo dpoing the "tunnel" thing when you log on to it? and thats why that works,, ?

just in case anyone wants to know..

you can do a live webcam using your datacard.. ..
you use yahoo messenger ..
they < the people seeing > will need this.. http://www.andy.w2s.co.uk/yahoo/ViewCam.shtml

downside is that it only seems to work for IE and it needs do down load some stuff meaning ALOT of people at work cant see cause they cant download..

I wanted to use the webcamxp thingy cause it gives an instant linky and anyone can watch ,,

so that is why i want incoming connections..

unless someone has an easier way to this this simple thing..

Yahoo works because it doesn't actually accept incoming connections to your computer, in the traditional sense of the phrase. Yahoo Messenger connects to Yahoo's server, which acts as an intermediary.

Depending on your cable provider, it may or may not be possible to do what you want. If your IP changes regularly, it will make it much harder, but still doable. Who do you get your internet from?

You can conect from an outside computer, but you need to buy a block of IP addresses (and Cingular isn't going to sell you just one).

I have a number of clients that have ip based solutions.

Some of these other solutions may work, but they are a bit iffy.

thanks for that info..

my cable provider is comcast cable ..

I HAVE been keeping note of my IP ADDRESS and it will stay constant aslong as I dont power off the modem .. when i do that it does asign me another IP addy ..

I know ahead of time when I will be needing it so when you say it will be much harder just how much harder are we talking about ...

worse case .. comcast does offer static IP's ... and I am willing to do that just to connect the webcam on the road.. sad aint it but its neat and everyone that sees it comments on it..

nskgti23[b]
thanks for the input.. in an even worse case senerio .. and i end up having to do that < buy an ip block > i will ... < but i will try EVERY workaround first >

if this is what they cost..
Static Public IPs within a range - 28 block* $500 $84 per account

then I will do it ..

hell ive spent more then that on even more useless stuff then this and I REALLY like playing with my mobile live webcam..

edited to add I just saw this..
Public IPs - dynamically assigned No charge No charge

wonder what the diffrence is...

I would suggest getting a WRT54G and loading 3rd party firmware on it that will terminate IPSec VPNs. Some of them can also update some dynamic DNS providers, so IP changes don't matter. The reason why I asked is that there are some cable providers that change your IP every 15 minutes or so.

Anyway, the idea would be to set up a router (the WRT54G) at your home to accept the IPSec tunnel from the laptop, and get an IP on your local network. It won't be blindingly fast, but it should be good enough to push a low bitrate video stream across. You could then use a computer at home to serve the stream to the end users, if webcamXP supports it, so multiple users can connect. You could also use forward the required port on the WRT54G to the laptop's IP on your home network, but that would force the laptop to send multiple streams across the EDGE network if multiple people were connected at once.

Very cool, though.

BTW, has webcamXP improved? I last used it a couple of years ago and it pretty much blew chunks.

wow.. you sir, will be keeping me busy for a while..

ok things to do .. get router .,, already have it,,
get firmware on it that will terminate IPSec VPNs. < assuming a simple google search will get me one?>

as far as webcamxp.. i used started using it about 5 weeks ago ..
whats not to love ? I have 9 cams set up around the house.. I can see the mailman when he comes.. and the meterreader.. < they actually do some.. wow.. >

im sure you know its basicly a lot of jpg's sent to make your "webcam" guess my cable upload is GREAT cause the thing is very fluent .. not choppy at all .... a dog walking by looks like he is walking by.. instead of dog.. here .. next frame.. dog there.. it has sound also .. but dont play with it much..

so yeah .. I like it..

Read about SSH and its tunnels. You can SSH to your destination and then allow tunneling of certain ports back to your machine.

PuTTY can do that. The IPSec tunnel is nice because you don't have to manually configure each and every port you'd like to use. Most if not all 3rd party WRT54G firmwares can be configured to allow inbound SSH for this purpose.

I use windows xp Pro. and I use PPTP just open the port 1723 on your router what is does is gives you a direct connect to your computer a VPN. I have been using that for a while but i wanted to not use it anymore well i guess i cant do that lol
