What to do with 6230b?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Nokia 6230b with firmware 5.34. It has the lockup problem which has become rather annoying. I love the phone other than this. Should I send it off to have the firmware updated or try to get another phone out of Cingular. I do have lockline insurance but don't know if I could use it for this. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Currently it seems that Warranty Exchange and Lockline do not have any 6230s left in their inventory. They are offering the v551 or siemens s66 as a possible substitute. I also read that once the Nokia 6682 launches they will offer that as a substitute as well. I'm lucky enough to have gotten one of the last available 6230s but i'm thinking about holding off and exchanging it out again once the 6682 arrives.

I would see if you have a phone that'll let you get by til the launch of the new phones.

Hopefully this helped.

That's what I am thinking of doing. As I said, I really like the phone. It's just the locking up that is beginning to drive me crazy. Thanks for the info.

How do I check the firmware version on mine? I have one of the old pre-ENS models from late last year/early this year that has performed flawlessly since. It is Cingular branded.

my friends 6230 was locking up a lot and he changed sim cards, and now works fine he says.

If you like it... hold on to it. You can decustomize it with updated firmware... it will more than likely take care of the locking up.

Cingular's 4.43 works fine, as long as your Bluetooth hardware is at 0382, and not 0380. I think mine whitescreened and rebooted once in the 10 months I've had it.

Somehow, I'm now glad I didn't ever get the 5.35 update.

Turn bluetooth on, then enter *#2820#

The BT version is the 4 digit number.

Thanks. I learned something. This should be in the Nokia FAQ. (if it already isn't)

This isn't a rumour. But have XBM done it now or not.. that's unknown. Agents and Dealers can find this in our tools

They didn't for me. I was told they can't do it, as they only have certain phones they can send out as "full kits" (inc. battery, etc, whereas most XBM exchanges are just the phone) and the 6682 isn't one of them. I'll call backn in a week and see. Maybe I can get a nice rep..

Posted by: SilverJack

OK..............I just called into XBM to have them warenty my 6230 and they were just gonna replace it with another 6230 not a v551 or s66. Did i just get a retarted rep or did they get the issue fixxed with this phone?

Posted by: mbranscum

XBM replaced my 6230 with a 6682. That's the first phone she offered me.

I must gave gotten a n00b for a rep. But its funny that he was all ready to read me the terms and nothing stopped him from thinking that he was gonna send me a replacment 6230. Somehow our conversation was interupted I guess i will try again tommarow.

Posted by: boston_errol

I tried it yesterday and was only offered a v551 and a s66....

Posted by: mbranscum

Man...I don't know...I guess I got lucky. Getting ready to ship my first unit BACK to NBO for a refund.

Posted by: SilverJack

Well.....I just got off the phone with XBM......They told me again that all the could offer was a s66 or a V551 I told him that that was not tha answer that i wanted to hear and that i wanted to speak to a superviser. He talked with his supervisor and they got the 6682 approved for me YEAH!!!!! Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

But one thing....
They were all out of stock

guess i will be calling back on tuesday

I've not read all the replies, so someone may have already asked this. But, does it lockup when you have a bluetooth device connected? I use to have that mobile, when it FIRST came out, and mine did it, so, I did the obvious...

What tools? CSP? If so where is it?

Posted by: kiztope

i was just sent an s66... looks like it will be going back as soon i get it! silly xbm reps...

Posted by: walkguru

yeah i would keep it, better than a 551, fer sure.

Posted by: kiztope

... got the s66, in the few hours that I have had it: it powered off once, dropped 2 calls, and the data card gave me an error....
Needless to say, I am now on hold to speak with XBM..

Posted by: kiztope

... off the phone with XBM.... They are now sending me an s710a. Not too bad, 'eh?

One word of advice to all you peeps...
Treat those people with respect... They have families, kids, etc, and have to listen to people yell at them all day. Keep this in mind when you are talking to them.

Another thing to keep in mind: You get more with a smile than you do with a stick, so don't go in fighting!

Just discovered this forum. My first post! Thanks for your wealth of information. I used the codes in this thread to see what firmware and BT settings I had on 6230 and you guys were absolutely right. Thanks.
