6230 Firmware

Ok,

I searched around and got some information regarding new firmware versions for the 6230. My version is 5.35 and i want version 5.50 which is apparently available now. This version apparently fixed a problem with t-mobile towers. Does anyone know (1) if version 5.5 does in fact boost reception for t-mobile users, in your area of course? (2) Someone stated that you can send the phone to nokia for firmware upgrade. Is this free?...do you need a certain warranty? Is there a resource on their website you can do this at? (i looked to no avail) (3) Is there a "safe" way to download on your own and upgrade via data cable or card reader?

Sorry if this topic in particular has been address on this forum but I've been looking for a day or so now so I tried b4 making a new thread!!! I'm just really confused...

Thanks in advance,
John

Haven't heard that Nokia will reliably flash. If you want good service pay the $35 and send it to Evan @ iunlock.com in Boston. He does good work with fast turnaround.

I haven't heard about an issue with TMo and the 6230. Could you explain?

Also I don't think you can do Nokia fw upgrades on your own. My understanding is that it requires special equipment that you can't afford (or isn't worth buying for 1 flash).

check the marketplace iunlock is doing 5.50 now

i hope to do that when i get my 6230b

I just had my 6230b flashed to 5.50 by iunlock.com. It now reliably works with BT and seems a bit quicker also. Plus, I haven't had a single freezing episode in the two weeks I've had it. I flashed from 4.43 and decustomized from Cingular firmware. Nokia wouldn't help - they said they could only flash unbranded phones and I had to deal with Cingular.

P.S. Ivan is for real. Felt a little bit apprehensive about sending my phone away but he supplies tracking info along the way and the phone is returned very quickly. Very professional.
