I Need The Software So I Can Connect My Phone Lg Vx5200 To My Pc. Iam Also Looking For Info On How To Crack The Phone So I Can Add Ringtones Sent Via Pix Message Now I Can Only Save Them Not Assign The Ringtones I Got Sent To Me.

I've asked my provider support contact about that and they responded"You also would have the option of downloading ring tones for your computer by purchasing a Mobile office kit when available. The standard price for this accessory is $39.99. However because this is a new phone this is not available at this time."

At some point I'm sure www.datapilot.com might support it.

I ran across the same issue and contacted LG and my provider. My salesperson couldn't believe you couldn't record voice notes and set as a ringtone or send them to the phone and set them as a ring tone. What's interesting that even LG's latest manual on the phone says you're supposed to be able to and you can on all the LG models close to this phone. I think it got missed in the program development for the phone but of course LG isn't willing to step up and my provider can't do anything but let me switch out phones to like the VX3300 which will let you do it since I can't afford to jump to the VX6100.

I've heard talk on other forums they couldn't get bitpim to work on the 5200 unless you've already done it.

Posted by: SCOTTRO401

So If Anyone Has Sucessfully Used Bitpim On The 5200 Please Let Me Know How To Do So, Or Any Supporting Software That Is Avail Thankzz

Hey, I found this on E-Bay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=5809284483
Looks like they are confident it will support the 5200. They seem to have a guarantee.

If anyone gets one Keep us all posted.

This is the response i got from the seller...........Yes it will. I found a guy in a forum that had it working and I sent him a cable to test to verify. Worked like a charm.

I have used bitpim and the same cable I use for my vx8000 for the vx5200. I have added ringtones using the file tree. I have not attempted anything else yet.

Yankee,
I'm seeing people having problems with BitPM recognizing the phone. Could you give me some details as to what settings, version, etc. you have? There must be some right combinations that work or don't.

Thanks

I set the phone as vx4650. I am using a cable manufactured by prolific technology and installed a driver I downloaded from their site. I also installed the drivers that came with the cable so I'm not sure which one is working. I used version 7.35 of bitpim. As I said before, I can only add things from the file tree. This was on my son's phone so I don't know if he has tried anything else.

From what I'm seeing on all the forums using the file tree is about it. At least until BitPM or some of the other support the VX5200 directly. Obviously since they can see the file tree it shouldn't be that hard to add the functionality for the rest.

I got it working after I received my cable. I'm hoping to get a full write-up to put on here. I'll have to talk to the owners of the group to find out what I need to do.

I was able to get my vx5200 working with bitpim. The key is using the driver from Prolific's website. I do only get access to the file tree however. Which directory do i need to drop ringtones into?

Posted by: mrmonteith

/usr/sound/ringer is where you place the file. Then under /dload remove ringtone.dat file and reboot the phone.

yeah i found your walkthrough on the forum. was extremely helpful. After that, the most difficult part was finding software to cut/downsample mp3s. Thanks a ton

I used Cheetah and found it to work the best.

Hi! I'm new to the forum and need some help. I've read the posts regarding downloading from the LG VX5200 but am having problems. I want to download the pictures in the phone, I have the Prolific cable, I have BitPim 7.35. The computer seems to "see" the phone as it will list the file tree. I am currently telling BitPim that the phone is a LG VX4500. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: Dynomite14

I figured it out, about 30 minutes after I posted the question.

check out www.mycellconnect.com they have a BitJ which supports LG VX5200 so far only to upload ringtones.

Posted by: skyjunky

bitpim 0.8.00 supports the 5200 fully, it will convert mp3 to the correct format for the phone automatically

I have a LG VX5200 Phone I juat got from Verizon. I bought a USB data cable from ecitywireless . it came with a cd with USB drivers but none for a VX5200 specifically. I plugged the cable in and the new hardware wizzard poped up and started to walk me thru the setup process and searched for a USB driver in the CD and on my Hard drive but said it found none. I clicked cancel or something I shouldnt have. Now my PC wont recognize the fact that I have plugged the USB cable in. I even tried having the new hardware wizzard search for it but it says no new hardware found. I am running Win 2000. If I could get it to recognize the cable again I may be able to install a usb driver for it. If any one knows how to get my PC to see my new cable again I sure would appreciate it. This happened to me one other time on a PC running win 98 annd in order for the PC to recognize the USB device I had to do a complete Restore on the system. I have too much to lose on this PC to have to do that again. Please help. Thanks John

there is software and cables at mobileaction.com for the 5200 now.

Hello,
I have done this before on my vx8100. i completely forgot how to do it. When I use Bitpim to get phone information I am getting errors communicating with phone. I know what folder to drop the mp3's into, but I cannot get Bitpim to recognize my phone. Any suggestions. Thanks!

Posted by: bubbalise

I've read all the replies and I see that the file tree is the only way to add ringtones using the USB data cable. Where would I get to file tree and/or the prolific website?

Posted by: bubbalise

how do you get to the file tree? i have bitpim but im not sure what people mean by file tree.

Posted by: skyjunky

It is not the only way, it is one of the ways, it is safer to use the ringtone tab in bitpim to add new ringtones. Messing with the filesystem can break the phone if you are careless.

Posted by: bubbalise

I have tried to use the ringtone tab but it says internal error everytime i try to send the data to phone. Ive been told its some kind of block verizon has on it that makes it so difficult. How do I get around that.

Posted by: mrmonteith

Unless the new firmware is doing it I have not heard of any block by Verizon and I have hundreds of people in my Yahoo group using BitPIM and VX5200.

I suspect if you've added or removed any files you didn't remove the ringtone.dat file and reboot the phone. That or you tried to load more than 1meg on the phone. You need to go to the filesystem tab and make sure that's not the case.

Unless the ringtone.dat file and the files match good BitPIM might have an issue. You're better off asking in the Yahoo group as I haven't run into a lot of problems and I'm sure someone has been in this same situation.

Michael

Posted by: bubbalise

so i am supposed to remove the ringtone.dat file then reboot? because i have not dont that. i appreciate you answering me as noone else has.

Posted by: skyjunky

Make sure you are NOT using version 0.8.04 of bitpim, it has a bug that prevents sending media to the phone. In version 0.8.05 the bug is fixed, you can get it from here. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...up.exe?download

search for and use Audacity for making tones... its very easy to cut and export as mp3... set the bitrate to 40 for good quality but minimal space used...then bitpim your butt off
