one of my friend bought a brand new 2005 impreza... he didnt beat the car since its new but a 6200km there was a weird noise coming from the motor, and the next day at a red light the car stalled and didnt start back... so he called a towing to go to the subaru dealer... after inspection they announce him that the engine is dead... its have been now 2 months that he doesnt have his car cus engineer from subaru had to come study the car cus its the first time... and no one knows when he is going to have his impreza back.. so they pass him a forester, for all that trouble that its causing they could at least pass him a legacy or sometin! they said it possible they do a call back after what happened to his car!

Do you mean a recall?

Posted by: crisis

what model impreza did he have?
legacy's are in a higher price bracket than the imprezza, and the forester has the same chassis as the imprezza. That's probably why they gave him a forester and not a legacy. I'd be like taking a corolla in and expecting a loaner camry, they'd most likely give you something in the same class, ie matrix in this example.

I've had my 2004 2.5rs for about a year and half now and no problems. I haven't heard anything like this happening to any suby's in any model year so far.

and you mean recall, not call back, right? because they will call him back when they've found out what's wrong with his car.

Posted by: theocrx

yeah recall... he as 2.5 rs too... but normally when there a problem they fix the car and it takes a couple days... not couple months... so thats why a better car for compensation would be good... from a sports car to a wagon for a couple months without fixing anything its bad, since also he had the car for about a month and a half!! its the first time it happen so thats why its so long!

Posted by: mawti

Who has a sports car?

Posted by: theocrx

what i meant to say its from the impreza to the forester...

Posted by: INNOVA

That is realy crappy. It is not typical though. He just got unlucky.

I ream my modded STi every day and the only problem I've had is that the little "beep beep" when I lock the door went away. I have 15k miles on it now.

I would be very demanding if I was him.

Posted by: theocrx

exactly thats what i told him, i mean you buy a car for 30 000$ cus you like it, you have a warranty and after a month its dead, its not normal... but the fact that it takes a couple months to get back its even less normal!!

Posted by: INNOVA

Yea that dealership sounds like they are realy going about customer service the wrong way. I would call the BBB or something like that in his area. Tell them his story and they would jump all over the dealership.

Posted by: theocrx

its not a bad idea... i'll tell him about it

Posted by: NextelsOnly

Either it was driven into the ground or it's a lemon or some sort of factory defect. Chances are it's the latter. That's too bad...

Posted by: OCZ

is it manual...if it is...did he shift properly...cause i know that if u dont shift in time and shift after the needle is nearly touching it is max, is killing ur engine...so I dont know if he did that...because an engine dying is possible but not likely...

I would also talk to the media...maybe he will get a call from other car companies giving him a car and all which could hurt subaru....

PS: DYK, that Subaru is owned by GM!

Not really, I was bouncing off my rev limiter all weekend long with other subarus, the car is fine. It happens all the time, just take care of the car with normal maintenance.

That is incorrect, GM owns a small portion of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) which is Subaru's parent company. It only gives the right to veto as a shareholder, they have no controlling abilities and Subaru is only a partner with GM.

Saying GM owns Subaru is like saying GM owns Toyota or vice versa.

but if you work for GM you can get employee discount...on subaru's from what i heard...

i'd think so as well

i'm in the process of getting an impreza as well, but the new 2006 one... i don't think this will change my perception of subaru as you guys and gals have really sold me on it, and many of my friends have sold me on it... hopefully, i won't be unlucky like this chap...

Posted by: theocrx

Glad to hear that Subaru took care of your friend. When you buy a new car, you have to expect the dealer to take care of you. When I bought my M3 new in '02, I was under the impression that all dealers would give you a loaner car even if the car wasn't purchased from the dealer where it was being serviced. I found this to be untrue. BMW had left me stranded 2 times without a loaner or calling for a rental. I paid over 60K for that car and BMW didn't care. At least Maserati will not only flatbed my car to the dealer, they will deliver another maserati for me to drive while mine is in the shop. At $1100 for an oil change and fluid change, they should provide something... Once again, I'm glad everything worked out. Make sure he breaks the engine in correctly.

trust me he wont miss the forester!! but jafo what bmw did was hawful, when you buy a car of that price you at least expect to have a loaner!! maserati for sure they do it.. my boss has one and when he go to the dealer for service he is treated like a king!! you know you have for what you pay!!

Posted by: crisis

good to hear he finally got his car back

Yep... When I take my Maserati into the dealer, they treat me with respect. Now only if I could get them to give me one of the Ferraris for a loaner...

I don't think I would ever buy another BMW unless they change their policies. They are nice driving cars but when things go wrong, you better hope that it happens near the dealer where you purchased it.

one of my other friend have an sti and he got no problem with it... but i cant go with the warranty since he changed a lot of things within the month that he purchase his sti brand new so he kind of wish that nothing breaks... his car is a bomb!!!! his skyline gtr r32 also is a bomb!! thats amazing but its weird the first time you have to shift with the left hand!!!

**update**

okay, so the deal is done... tried out an '06 impreza wagon auto (yes auto 'cause parents may drive it once in a while) and definitely impressed by the engine... easily could hit 120km/h on the hwy without noticing i'd hit that until i saw the speedometer! overall, great stuff and forking $29k taxes included, and was able to get the tonneau cover and wheel locks NC.. now i'll need some place to do a good undercoating in the GTA.. any suggestions?

Try FX Auto for undercoating and tinting.
