Should I get the new Treo650?

I'm thinking about buying the new Treo650 and I was wondering if this was a good choice or not. Is it worth it? Could you guys help me out by telling me some info on its strong points and its weak points? I would really appreciate it. I use the internet a lot, and I love the camera and video feature, but I'm not sure how the quality of the pictures are compared to the new camera phones that are out there. Thanks!

YES, you will love everything about it...then you will realize its a million times better due to all the 3rd party support of Palm OS!

I totally agree with idean! I'm new to the palm os, and i found user interface very easy to use & with all the 3rd party software & programs out there. You can't go wrong, I'm very happy i got a treo!!

Its not exactly out yet, but there has been pictures circulating, photoshopped or not of a new version, and even one with Windows mobile. I spoke with someone from Sprint and they believe that the tentative dat is sometime Q1 of 2006!!!!

I think the question is not "should I get a treo 650", but "which service provider" should you choose

Posted by: KJRcrew

well i would definately get the 650...but if you plan to go with sprint/verizon...you may want to wait for the rumord 670 as its expected to be an ev-do device...and although its not PALM...(its supposed to be PPC OS) which i dont think is all that bad since i had a IPAQ...it should be pretty much worth the wait....

Posted by: WoNGsTeR

to tell you the truth.. dont wait for rumors... they are only rumors...from past experience... if palm was to launch a new treo, they usually let spring have it first.. and went sprint launches its usually the 4th quarter... so since its almost the 4 quarter with no firm facts that it is launching.... dont expect a new one until atleast next year .....

looks like i might as well invest in this lil bad boy...if anyone can suggest a good place to get one id really appriciate it...keep in mind im coming from nextel, appearantly im not considerd a new sprint customer but i get to pay the activation fee to come to spint..woo hoo!

thank to anyone who sends me info on great deals...

When your contract ends, don't you qualify for a new sprint customer discounts? I saw some Treo 650 devices with a 2 year plan going for $209.

Posted by: KJRcrew

well im still under my nextel contract and since the merger sprint tells me that for moving to them its called upgrading...and on top of that you get to pay the 36 for activ..how nice...and i dont qualify for new customer prices...i get existing customer prices...thats at least what the coporate store tells me.

thas why i turn to you guys...i heard costco is a good place to get phones...i am not a member, but i have heard that the phones are cheaper and you get accessories too..can anyone elaborate as to what the costco deal entails..?

thanks

Posted by: xynos

I'm a Costco member, and as far as I know, they carry very restrictive number of Phones. I don't even think they carry the Treo,

Posted by: KJRcrew

well nix costco..i just got word they dont offer it in Michigan...only cali..

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

Be warned tho....data use is very pricey. It's not a big issue for me because I travel lots and it comes out of an expense accnt. And get Snappermail. You'll love the treo. I will never go back to a regular cell phone again.
Can't wait till palm launches a new treo with wifi as well. That's what i'm waiting for.

Sprint offers the most affordable Internet access, amongst the carriers. Unlimited starts at $10.

Posted by: KJRcrew

does that web mena full web browsing or is it only like wap sites or only browsing for a select few sites..because thats damn good for $10 otherwise

Posted by: xynos

Full web browsing and EV-DO is available at some areas without any extra.

Posted by: KJRcrew

i thought the 650 wasnt EV-DO?? or is just not in effect widespread...?

Posted by: xynos

no, the Treo is not ev-do capable. I mentioned it because Verizon charges more for their ev-do. I have a PPC-6600 which is ev-do capable.

Is it true that the 650 doesn't lose it's memory settings when the battery runs out, unlike other palms? If this is true, that makes me want to get a 650 even if I never used the phone aspect of it... as a PDA this would be worth the extra cost.

Yes, Palm was the first manufacturer to use persistent memory, and microsoft recently introduced the WM5.0 which also uses persistent memory.

Advantages are of course, no loss of memory, and the treo doesn't need to provide electricity to the memory anymore to keep the memory. I believe the Tungsten T5 is the first device that Palm implemented the memory change.
