MPX220 Speaker Issues... Again

Alright boys and girls… I ordered one of the new (or new released) MPX220 from Cingular. I am a big Motorola fan and love the flip phone protection that the 5600 can’t provide. Anyways, the poor earpiece quality has not changed. It sounds like an early 90’s analog cell phone complete with low volume and a blown speaker!
It was my understanding that this issue was addressed in the recent ROM updates by Motorola/Cingular. Of course the sound is great with a bluetooth adapter but it defeats the purpose of a “small” phone if you always have to carry an earpiece!
My current ROM version is 1.430.0.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try a different ROM, the volume is ok on the MPx 220 but its not the best.

overall the mpx is a terrible volume phone for all situations... coming from a seem edited v400 and a nextel... to me it was the worst.. altho... its not that bad anymore, it seemed to get louder lately... even the speakerphone.. no idea why or how..

It still amazes me that ANY phone could ever be released with the volume being too low. I mean isn't that one of the main functions of the phone?
Then to hold the phone for months fixing the problem and re-release it and users still complain. I've never had a Motorola phone but I know that I'm never gonna buy one either.

It is obvious that the speaker in the MPX220 was not selected wisely and simply doesn't deliver the goods.
NO firmware can fix it. If anything, FW has only cranked the volume up which results in an even more clipped and distorted sound.
That's what you've got...

Sorry I don't share your experience. The speakerphone may not be that loud in noisy areas but it is clear and not choppy. Well on my phone it isn't.

I updated the ROM on mine to the 1.43 and it was a little louder but not really in my opinion. On the stock silver casing i have (haven't had the time to swap it for the black one yet) there are two slits on either side of the center ear piece for the sound to come out but they're only half slits and on opposide sides, I wonder if you take an exacto knife and extend those openings all the way up on either side if that would help a bit. Couuldn't hurt anyway though I haven't taken mine appart so I don't know if in doing that it would cause the solid silver grill to come out depending on how it is secured to the casing.
