Hi,
Does anyone know if my old vx6000 data cable will work with my new pimpin 8100. Thanks

Would someone mind posting a link to the official 8100 data cable?

Thanks,

Frank

The 6000 cable will work if you sand down the plastic tabs that try and prevent it from going into the receptacle of the 8100. The pin out is still the same.

I personally did this using a dremel (which to ~20sec.) and it works just fine.

How about 4400 cable?

Posted by: Artimis

A 4400 cable will not work! Connector is physically a different size and the pinout is different.

the vx6000 will work without no sanding
just go in diagnally from downward position (my bro has the 8100)
and it fits my 8940 for audiovox perfectly (has same grooves)

Okay, for the absolute newbie.. what kind of data cable connection will connect to this phone?

Posted by: Artimis

kountry_boi, you can do it that way but I highly recommend sanding. Forcing it in at an angle like that can seriously mess up the jack/pins if you aren't careful (but hey....its your phone).

[e]roc, I'm not quite sure what it is you mean....if you are asking what data cables work, the VX 6000 will (if you sand the groves on the connector down). The cables for the VX6100, VX7000, VX8000, and VX8100 are all identical so any of those will work.

If you are asking about what connections can be used....it can be USB, serial (RS232 - this is slow), or bluetooth (this can also be slow).

Do the ones on ebay work any good?

Posted by: colorme3

looks like I'm gonna buy a 6000 cable, cuz they're on sale if you can find any available @ a verizon store... but is there a site/link that I can get drivers so that it'll recognize the 8100?

Posted by: kountry_boi

you wont be messin up the jack and pins Artimis you'll just mess up the bottom part!
which you can sand but since i been puttin the cable alot of time it has sanded itself already!!!

The best fit for a data cable for the 8100 is a cabe for the vx7000. Its also fits the 8000. Fyi guys - anthiing made after the 7000 or even 6100 is compatible with each other even charges. I got mine on ebay for about 15 bucks, came with drivers as well. I wouldnt do the file thing cause you can pull out the little metal piece that the charger plugs into then your introuble.
