Sound Quality of SMT5600

I haven't found anything really on point looking throught this forum.

I am interested in buying the SMT5600 but the store advised that the phone has poor sound quality - incoming and outgoing. Has anyone else found this?

Do you advise that this phone is worth purchasing (money aside)?

Thanks.

Was just about to post this myself. Recently purchased this phone at Cingular store. Love every aspect about it, except yes, mine has terrible reception/voice quality on both incoming and outgoing calls. Wondering if just got a bad one, but apparently not. Shoot, back to the store...

Hmm.... wonder if anything has been changed since AT&T first released the smt5600. I bought mine when it was an AT&T phone (can't get rid of the damn mMode stuff ) and unlocked it to work on Cingular. My sound quality is pretty good- both incoming and outgoing. No worse than my Treo650, SE T637 or Moto v551. Reception isn't as good as the Treo, but I think all phones with internal antennae will be deficient there compared to a phone with an external. By poorer reception I mean an ability to get a signal in a remote area not sound quality.

Hope this helps...

My SMT5600 sounds pretty good too - although I am comparing it to my old BB 7290

I had read a couple bad reviews regarding sound quality while I was doing my research on the SMT 5600. One complaint was it seems to pick up a lot of background noise.

I was not real impressed with the quality when I got my 5600. It is not bad enough that I would take back the phone, but it isn't great. The speaker is very loud at times and I think that adds to the problem.

I just got the SMT through Cingular recently, and I have fine sound quality. It is on par with the Treo 650 I had previously. The speakerphone seems less distorted as well.

So far, it has better reception than the Treo or the Moto V551 I have.

Reception on these phones is very good. As for sound quality, I have no problems with this except that I feel that the speaker is very quiet. It has a small sweet spot and sometimes it is hard to hear in noisy environments. It does pick up more noise when you are talking because of the phone's design and the fact that the mic is not on your mouth like a flip phone. Speakerphone is excellent. All in all this is a great phone, it is very well built and sturdy. If you can get it for the right price go for it.

Had my phone three months now & reception is good for the most part. If my phone doesn't work then my friends don't either, from what I we can tell.

You do need to hold it up to your ear just right to hear good (small sweet spot)
Sound quality is fine both ways.
Like joshpo said Speakerphone is excellent. It's not something you can use going down the road doing 80 with a window open & maybe not with all the windows up. Some cars are just louder than others inside.

If you need a phone now & want a smartphone then this is the phone to get. It's a small phone with a big punch.....

Same here... far better reception on the 5600 than on my Moto V551.

The sound of people on the other end are fine on mine, but I have a lot of hissing and white noise sounds on mine. Can get annoying when speaking in a quiet environment. But the actual sounds coming through are quite clear for me.

Mine works just fine. It is clear enough...

If you find the volume low, just use the speaker phone and hold it to your ear. Loud enough to wake the dead.

i had a v551 and just switched to smt5600 and my gf has been complaining that she can't hear me that well. i have no problems hearing her though. she said my phone sucks but i think she's just mad that i spent $200 on a new phone when i could've spent it on her, hehe. but yeah, so it seems like people on the other side may have problems.
