Who is the winner on this?? For Me it's the Treo-but curious what others think....

I have both phones. If you like 3rd party apps, the Treo is good. If stability is important, the 910 is for you.

Thanks for the reply xynos- how is the keyboard vs the treo keyboard.
I do a LOT of emailing. Difficult for me to say because I cannot physically hold one. trying to decide if I want to try one..
Thanks for you help

I do a lot of emailing too. Its surprising how the 910 keyboard is usable, as its much smaller than the Treos. I actually find myself typing faster with the 910A. The only problem is that the keyboard on the 910 is not backlit. Both has great reception, but advantage is the Treo 650 as it has EDGE capability.

Had 910... Loved it. now treo. Love it more! 3rd party aps are much more available. Like the other guy said. 910 is better stability wise.

Video quality on the Treo is much better as well. 910 is rather slow and chppy on that.

910 i miss being able to write on the screen and it recognize my inputs. That was nice!

Use graffiti anywhere to write on screen.

I was faced with the same decision - either device was $350 - and went with the 650.

Funny, I just got my treo yesterday b/c I couldn't stand the keyboard on my P910a. I found it completely useless and frustrating, but obviously it works for some. Keyboard on my Nokia 6820 is prob my favorite, too bad the phone didn't do more. Guess the best thing is to try if you can (I have a mint P910a for sale...). I love the Treo so far, except I have spent the WHOLE day on OLERR error messages, and cannot get my outlook calendar to sync (which completely defeats the purpose of having it!!)

If you do a lot of emails, have you considered a Blackberry? btw i've used all and from what you're asking, i think the Blackberry is your device.

The keypads on the 650 are similar to the Blackberry but still a bit cramped like the 600 but not as hard to the finger tips...i hope that makes sense to you

you can get decuma onspot for your treo! got it for my 910

The treo oviously wins here

is the size a consideration for the purchase? The SE is more pocket friendly..

Posted by: enafets

Funny, when I got my Treo I thought it felt smaller, so I got out my 910 - they are almost exactly the same size in every dimension, and I can't appreciate a weight difference myself. My SE case that came with the 910 fits the Treo beautifully, slightly loose.

I've tried both but only own a P910.

Hardware: The backlit keyboard on the Treo is a big plus and having quad-band is nice too. However, I find almost everything else on the P910 to be superior. I think it looks better, the screen is physically bigger, the external aerial on the Treo is a big no-no in my book and I find the P910 more aesthetically pleasing. The flip on the P910 also does a good job of keeping the screen protected.

Software: The Treo has a great library of third party software whilst the range for the P910 is merely adequete. As for the actual OS, I prefer Symbian. It's more stable and is capable of full multi-tasking.

The 650 wasn't even out when I bought my P910i, but I'd still go for the P910i again.

Personally, I can't wait for the new Sony Ericsson P-series phone to be released. Apparently it has W-CDMA, a 2MP camera, WiFi and comes with a gig of memory!

Is there something similar to Documents to Go (or Pocket Office) on the Symbian? Does the P910a have the full version for free?

I don't like the offerings from Nokia...is the SE interface much different?

Posted by: enafets

Yup, my 910a came with mini versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. They work quite well, too.

The P910 comes with QuickOffice Premier pre-installed. You can view and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents with it. I believe that there's a version of Documents To Go for the P910 if you decide you don't like QuickOffice.

Yes, it is very different. Nokia's smartphones use one of the Nokia user interfaces (Series 60/80/90) whilst the Sony Ericsson and Motorola Symbian smartphones use Symbian's own user interface called UIQ. UIQ is primarily designed for pen-based input, though there's a version due out later this year that will also work on non-touchscreen devices.

If you need word processing, doc to go is the software to get. Quickoffice does not format well, and it doesn't display pictures.

The thing that I find nice about the newer ppc devices as well as some palm devices like the lifedrive and tungsten t5s are the landscape mode, which Sony pioneered. That's nice when surfing the web or editing documents.

Speaking of web, you can download Opera for Symbian devices. Its the best web browser that I've ever used.
