Im gonna be gettin a treo 650 tomorrow and i had a few questions. And before anyone asks, I did search through the boards before I made this topic. I just didnt find the answers I was lookin for.

1) Like all other CIngular phones, is AIM already on there?

2) With using the internet, should I go with the unlimited Media Net for $20 or go with one of the Data COnnect plans??

3) I know somoene tht has a 650 on VZW and they can access any website possible on there, is it the same on the Cingular version?

4) I saw that some people use different web browsers, can you recommend any browsers or any applications (calendars, anything) that I should download.

5) Can I use MP3's from the Memory Stick as a ringtone or no?

I think thats it for now...I hope I can get these questions answered...Thanks in advance

4) Probably over 90% use the built-in Blazer browser
5) Only with third party software

btw, the treo doesn't support memory stick. it uses sd cards.

I meant SD card...I already have a 128 SD card for my Digital cam

so for Aim can I just download AIM or use a third party AIM program like WebAim

what did you mean about third party software for the ringtones from the mp3 player??

thanks for the answers guys....do you think Im makin a good investment, switchin frmo a V551 to this? I get the phone in an hr, and cant wait lol

you can download AIM from AOL's UK site. They are free. You need a software to enable ringtones with MP3. Treo does not support mp3 natively. The 551 is cannot do a lot of things that the treo could.

So I got the phone and Im liking it so far. So far no problems. Not liking that I cant have regular MP3 ringtones. I put a song from my 551 onto the 650 but it went right to the real player. Anyway I can activate it as a ring tone?

Another thing I gotta get use to is not having a background, Im gonna miss that...and the media net where I can get games and ringtones....So can I download anything on the Treo then??

and u said I can get AIM on my phone from AOL.uk, right?? Thanks again guys, You guys are the reason I got this phone lol

You need 3rd party software to make an mp3 as a ringtone. Background support is available to program launchers, like zlauncher. The aol website is www.aol.co.uk.

Has anyone downloaded AIM from AOL's UK site, and does it work well with the Treo 650 in the US? (By the way, if you have AOL on your PC, the British chick's voice is a nice change from the US version).

I used the AIM from the UK site, and it worked pretty well. I changed to IM+ because I can't very well run 4 different programs for each MSN, Yahoo, AIM and ICQ. Never used the jabber function in IM+ tho.

nevermind, i see i have to pay for tht....Im obviously doin sometihn wrong...I cant get aim to download on the treo

still havent been able to download aim on the treo...no idea what im doin wrong...also, cna anyone maybe tell me where i can download some games or somethin for the treo...appreciate the help...i should be done askin for help soon

fyi there are a couple great boards out there (like mytreo.net & treocentral.com) that are packed with info and software just for the treo.
mytreo.net has an entire treo related software section & a faq and Treo Knowledge Base
You can use any third party palm software out there, palmgear.com is a great site.

Thanks for the link for aim, and for the links for other boards for help. I really do appreciate this. I finally got aim installed but when I sign on, no buddies are appearing...is there somethin else I need to do?
