Motorola HS850 and TREO 650 Pairing?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When I first got my HS850 bluetooth, when I first paired it with my TREO650, it gave me "hands-free" operation. I had to re-pair for some reason or another, (I think I upgraded my Firmware on my TREO) and now I can't get it do pair other then the "headset" protocol. (Which means I have to touch the earpiece for every call.)

Does anyone know how to pair these devices into the "hands-free" mode?

you need to reset the hs850 to start fresh, if you haven't already.

do you (or anyone) know how to "reset" the HS-850... (I don't have my manual for it handy.)

I find the pair of of the 850 and the Treo 650 to be very finicky. Sometimes they pair automatically, sometime I have to tap the button on the headset. Never sure how many times I have to tap it either. When it works it is very good though.

I have the HS850 too, and it only seems to do headset mode with my Cingular T650 (latest firmware). I wish the hands-free stuff worked -- I would like to be able to put calls on hold, redial, etc from the headset. But right now it's just audio and answer/hangup.

I looked briefly through the manual via that link, but there's nothing about resetting it -- the word "reset" does not appear anywhere. The only possibly relevant thing is that the HS850 remembers its last 8 pairings, so to really clear the Treo pairing out of its memory, it seems you would have to pair it with 8 other devices, which is certainly not possible for me.

I have the same issue with the HS810 that I have. When I first paired it with the Treo 650 it worked fine, then when I turn it on to use again it won't even recognize it. I shouldn't have to remove it from the Treo 650 list and then repair to use it each time. I guess the HS810 just doesn't work properly with the Treo 650.

Palm's web site has update 1.17 posted this week. It says it has support for motorola bluetooth headsets. I am going to attempt to install it later this week.

I also have an issue with the latest unlocked firmware and my HS850...I'm thinking of just going to the 1.17 Cingular firmware and saying the hell with it...I really only use my Treo on Cingular anyway...

To reset your HS850 you plug it in for 2 seconds. Thats it.

I at first thought that my Treo 650 / HS850 wouldn't connect properly, because I was expecting it to act like my other BT phones. Meaning when I connect my HS850 to my S710a it stays connected, with my Treo 650 it does not, so I thought it wasn't working.

Turns out it just works differently on the Treo 650. Whenever you place / receive a call on your Treo 650 if you have BT on and your Headset on (boom open) it will auto connect to your paired headset. So even though it says there is no headset connected it will connect as soon as you need it to.

that's even better. it probably wastes less battery that way.
