902 text to email is automatically MMS?

Hey everybody, background info is that I'm running a 902sh with SX813 fw on Fido. When I compose a message that is just text and I am sending it to an email address, it automatically changes it to MMS and it does not let me "downgrade" it to SMS. Is this normal? I'm thinking it is using my GPRS bandwidth, and that might get expensive (I don't know if it's included in my free text, picture messaging, I haven't gotten my first bill yet). I think my regular picture messages go through the GPRS too (hopefully it will be considered a picture message and not be considered internet data), anyone know?

MMS always uses GPRS, it's a requirement of the MMS standard to do so. SMS normally uses CSD (ie it makes a quick phone call) but some phones can be set to send SMS over GPRS instead (although the network needs to support that service and I don't see the advantage of doing it that way anyway).

As for the 902/SX813, that's how it's designed to work, it starts out as an SMS, and if you attach any file, add a subject line or attempt to send to an email address, it will auto-convert to MMS, because SMS can't do any of those things and can only be sent to a phone number.
