Yet another Treo VS Blackberry......

I am debating on a Treo 600 or a Blackberry 7100. I want to be able to use a phone, speaker phone, check my email and browse the web. Nothing fancy, maybe be able to open a Acrobat Reader file, but thats about it. I have the option to purchase a BB 7100 for $150.00 right now. I have read and reread the VS posts, but they are all equal in saying both are great and both suck so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and during my research I can not tell if either one supports hi fi ringers, anyone know?
Thanks

y did u compare the 7100 with the 600? the 7100 is bb's top of the line model, and it won't be a fair comparison.

there's nothing that a blackberry can't do that the treo can. but blackberries cannot take expansion memory, so its limited to whatever its got for memory which means u can't play music, nor videos, if u're interested in those.

bb's only advantage is its push mail. but with the treo, u can get chatter and it will do push mails too.

if u can narrow down to what ur looking for, i can help u with more info.

The bottom line in these types of comparisons is email. If the only thing you want is email, then go with the 7100 because nothing beats a Blackberry in that arena. If you want to be able to play MP3s, take pictures, have access to tons of apps, go with the Treo. Like the guy above said, there are some Palm apps that do push email.

I own both (don't ask me why). I tend to switch back and forth alot. More then I care to admit. In short, When I am using my Treo 650 I miss the push email the most. A feature I wish the 650 had. I know there is chatter, etc., but my company only supports BES or ActiveSync (no IMAP). When I am using the 7100, I miss the quality, applications, and phone features. The 7100 is not the best phone. This is where I think Palm nailed it. The tight integration of the phone/pda. Everything seems to work together for the most part. The speaker phone on the 7100 seems to be a little better then the Treo 650 (not by that much in my experience). As anything, it comes down to preference. I would say don't bother looking at the Treo 600, but instead look to the Treo 650 where it really is a better device then the 7100. Comparing the 7100 vs. Trep 600, 7100 wins in my book. Hope this helps.

My endless search for the perfect device has currently got me using a Treo 650. My previous phone was a Blackberry 7290. I had Blackberry 7100 and got rid of it because I didn't like the voice quality on the phone - very tinny. Here are some pros and cons.
Blackberry
Unbelievably stable - never ever crashes
Nearly indestructable - survived many drops
Push email works effortlessly
Fairly uncool - looks like your talking into calculator
Less options for software

Treo 650
Has memory expansion
Many cool apps for mp3's etc.
Awsome organizer features and alarms - much better as an organizer than BB
It has crashed on me several times during the week I've had it
Good luck and I hope this helps.

I use Consilient as the 3rd party that pushes email out to my Treo 650. Consilient supports Groupwise and IMAP. Works great

Chatter is a popular choice.

I just got the VolumeCare Trial and I don't really know if it's making much if a difference. It *seems* louder *most* of the time, but.....? I certainly haven't heard the EAR-SHATTERING volume increases that some people have reported in that *other* forum. Guess I'll buy it anyway.

As for BB vs. Treo?

Yes, definitely get the 650. I retired a Blackberry 7280, a Sony Clié 70NG/V, and a new Motorola Razr V3 for my 650 - and I don't regret it one bit, despite the occasional problems with operating stability. It just offers so much MORE.

The 7100 series is not RIM's top of the line model, most would agree that the 7200 or 7500 series BB's would be the top of the line models.

A lot of use do not care for the SureType keyboard.

I appreciate all the feedback on the Treo 650, but I was asking about the Treo 600. the 650 is way out of my price range.

Brazengrrl, i was in your situation a few weeks ago,,,Treo or BB?? Well being that I wanted to try out a treo to see if it would work for me, I went to good old eBay and got a steal on a Treo 600/Nextel i830 combo for 141.00. Anyway, Im really starting to love this Treo, my SK2 is sitting on the dresser right now...lol. Im waiting for my cables to come..also courtesy of eBay lol so i can start downloading apps. Im missing my aol/yahoo messengers. Perhaps after selling enough stuff on eBay i'll be able to get the 650 lol, Overall, its definitely a great purchase. Surf eBay for good deals..

$150 for a 7100 is alright, I've seen places with free and you need to sign a 2 yr contractl. People prefer the 7100 due to its look which is like a phone. The 7100 also have more memory than the previous bb. I had the 7290 and the 7100 and the Sure Type is excellent. If you need an office application for the bb, there's a company called DynoPlex that makes eOffice suite. I got one myself and it works fine but the interface would be better if its touch screen.

I think you can get a Treo 650 for $209 with 2 yr contract on EBay, so the price difference between the 7100 and the 650 is not that great, and you'll be getting more from a Treo than a bb (interestingly, bb leaves out the option to snooze for alarms)

Hope this helps.
