VX8100 v4 mp3 volume control stops working

I searched, but I didn't see any reference to this. Several times the volume control and mute button have stopped working when playing mp3s. It seems to play them at maximum volume when this happens. Turning the phone off and back on fixes it. Anyone else seen this?
I also have a couple of mp3s that play fine on my computer, but don't play on the phone. It's strange, because they were all encoded at the same time with the same software. There seems to be some kind of noise filter or something in the phone's mp3 player. The ones that don't play are not music, but just some voices with background noise.
