AAC files on 903sh?

Has anyone gotten this to work?

It's been claimed that .aac files will play on the 903, but is that just the UK version or the Japanese version too? I have converted mp3s (via dbPowerAMP) to aac format, put them in the Sounds & Ringtones folder of the memory card but they're not displayed. Anyone had any luck with them?

Also - can someone explain video stuff to me? I've used the Panasonic MovieStage procedure to copy stuff to the SD Video on the memory card - this plays fine. What then, is the 'My Video' section of the Media Player for?

Have done a bit of tinkering and it works using iTunes - not sure why it didn't work when I used dbPowerAMP. When I used iTunes, extension was .m4a, dbPowerAMP gave an extension of .aac ...

One other Q - I know that I can't use regular mp3s as ringtones. I know that if I get the Panasonic SD card reader, I can play DRM mp3s. Can I use these DRM mp3s as ringtones - or am I stuck with the SMAF solution? I'm not overly impressed by the quality it generates to be honest...

dbPowerAmp works just fine for me. Convert to m4a. If it's not in the drop-down list, you can get the codec from the web site: it's not installed be default.

yeah. u need the drm ringtones

Posted by: pibrahim

Hey Timsta - so if I get the SD reader and make DRM tones, I can use them not just in the media player, but also as ringtones, yup?

(Sorry - wasn't sure if I followed you correctly)

No you can't. The Secure MP3 stuff only works in the music player. For ringtones you can only use downloaded ones or SMAF files unfortunately.

That's why I keep saying the Euro 903 is better than the JP 903SH...

Posted by: Timsta

the euro versions aren't as locked down as the japanse ones. but the japanese ones do have answer machines and such lol.. (such a sucker for frills like dat).

aac or mp4 or m4a tones if copyright can work on jap 903sh.

all u need to do is find a dummy file (drm m4a file) and host it via wap.
it has to be downloaded into phone memory via wap to work.

the file can be 1kb for all it matters. as long as its a drm (m4a or mp4)
then all u need is another m4a/mp4 file in phone memory.

EG. downloaded drm Test.m4a
goto setting, select it as ringtone.
goto file manager, eg if u have a specific ringtone (lickit.m4a)
rename Test.m4a to something else.
rename lickit.m4a to Test.m4a.

VOILA!

It works the same way for 902sh with mp3 files as well.

so if anyone can find or create a dummy drm m4a file. pls host it and share?
or teach me how to create drm(copyright).m4a file?

m4a files playback no problem

but when set as ringtone it will still require DRM

(all tested on unlocked jap version 903SH)

so any way to find a drm file for bypass?

answer machines? what other extras do the jap 903's have?

Posted by: Timsta

they have other features meant for the japanese market. thats all.. built-in answering machines.. comic book readers. etc. etc.

Posted by: k2bk2bk2b

Does it have answering machine? not too sure, some items in menu are still in jap.
Cant read jap.

btw all we need is to find out a way to copyright a 1kb file
or someway to edit a drm file to 1k and upload it in a wap server.

You make it sound so easy k2b...

hahaah....

ok here's a link for drm mp3. not too sure if it work.

goto your phone and type in this URL (update me if its down)

http://www.nuthon.com/mediaaudiocut...spx?fileid=TEST

download it in Phone memory.

goto Settings, Set it(the dm mp3) as Ringtone. (eg. TEST.mp3)

Now transfer any mp3 into phone memory (eg. whereisthelove.mp3)
do ensure mp3 is cut not full song. waste space. and i havent tried full song. :P

goto DATA FOLDER/Ringtones

Rename the TEST.mp3 to something else. EG. TEST1.mp3
Rename whereisthelove.mp3 to TEST.mp3

TADA!! should work for 802.902 and 903(with mp3 enabled)

Does not worth with Jap 903 for sure. need m4a!

Enjoy and feedback if u have problems

i was able to dl it in phone memory (at the Sound Gallery), set it as ringtone, then copied an mp3 file to the phone memory, changed its name to TEST then changed the original to TEST1. It still didn't work. It says cannot assign due to illegal file. Does this thing also apply to Taiwan fw?

Posted by: ravenofavalon

i just got a jap 903sh but idk the FW, anyways, i converted my mp3's into AAC's which gave an extension of .m4a and i put it in the music/ringtones files and it doesn't show up in the phone

oh and while i'm here, my phone displays a "cingular" as my network, but i'm using a tmobile SIM card, what's up with that?

thx for all feedbacks!
