Posted by: razrDUDE

also, what kind of datacables and software/drivers do i need to get?

Posted by: osSpanish

i belive the DKU-5 cable should work with the lastest ver of Nokia PC suite

Posted by: mike772

Can you add themes to this phone, I have the data cable, what software works with the 6102?

Posted by: shortie479

Hopefully the following will save you some cash and a headache...

Contrary to all the compatibility info I read, the DKU-5 data cable DOES NOT work with Nokia's 6102. I followed the instructions from Nokia support step-by-step and when I finally plugged my phone in..."Enhancement not supported". PC Suite 6.6 didn't recognize the cable connection to the phone. Here's an overview...

Before anything else, the DKU-5 cable driver needed to be installed (via Nokia software download or CD-Rom with the cable). Next, I plugged the data cable into one of my USB ports & XP recognized and added the hardware w/o a problem. Third, I downloaded/installed Nokia's PC Suite 6.6, again from their software site. To begin using the application, I proceeded with the "Connecting my phone" wizard, chose method, configured the port, and plugged the cable into the phone. Phone response: "Enhancement connected" <beep> "Enhancement not supported" <beep> returned to idle. Neither the phone nor PC Suite recognized the cable was connected.

So to spite myself, I uninstalled everything, rebooted, started from the beginning again with no luck. Last resort was to call Cingular Data Support who informed me the CA-42 data cable (and possibly the DKU-2) are compatible w/ the 6102. The DKU-5 won't work, disregard the compatibility tables...

If anyone is successfully using the DKU-5 to connect to PC, please let me know. Thanks!

Note: I'd like to sell the DKU-5 cable, driver CD, and instruction guide for my cost (~$28) if anyone is interested.

Best Regards.

I have used the DKU-5 with the Nokia 6102 successfully, transfered music, wallpapers and even edited themes with Theme Studio. Was a pain to get connected but finally did.

Where did you get your cable and did it come with software?

Posted by: shortie479

I ordered the DKU-5 cable (including CD-Rom w/driver and instruction guide) online at a cellular accessories retailer. I actually used the driver provided 1st then my second attempt I downloaded the DKU-5 driver from Nokia. Of course I had to download PC Suite separately from Nokia.

In lieu of the cable I just successfully connected via IrD port and transferred, sync'ed, etc. with ease. Suite is moderately user friendly; just need to use it to feel around.

Any specific tips for getting the DKU-5 to work?

Best Regards-

hmmm!! Very interesting, I just got my Nokia 6102 one day earlier then expected thru UPS from LetsTalk.com and I love this phone.. Now I remember why I used to love my old Nokia 3595 when I had ATTWS. In fact is much better then expected for the money, FREE by the way,, I looked into one of the local stores, and they wanted to charge me $150 for it, and thru the Cingular web, they were charging $90.. So getting this baby for FREE is way cool..

Posted by: mike772

Basically i needed to re-attach the cable until the handset DID NOT say "Enhancement not supported" which was around 3-4 times, then in the nokia connection manager portion of the suite, select DKU-5 as the connection type and select whatever port it says as "Nokia DKU-5"

If you have irda working It seems so much easier, i just wish this phone had bluetooth and a little more memory.

Well, the phone is great, but unfortunately the service is not but I am still putting up with the weak service every where I go, I might just cancel since I am still under my 2 week period..

how the heck does one remove the cover from the NOKIA 6102 ?

theres a faceplate tool kit on sale on the net. google it. its a plastic curve tool and a straight tool. u can use anything that can fit between the seals of the plate but if its not plastic you might run into marking the stock face.

Okay, I have the T6 driver tool to remove the faceplate on my new 6102, but I don't see any screws, etc. There are 2 pieces to the face plate. There's the black piece and the silver piece outside of that. You can't remove the silver piece without removing the black piece. Are there any visual tutorials somewhere on the net.? My searches came up with nothing. Or, has anyone else done this?

I tried to remove the face plate but I realize that the black part of it does not come off on its own.. You have to get the Silver part completely off.. I used my nails to loose it up, but right when I thought the whole thing was going to come off, it did not wanted to separeate from the hing area..

I am going to one of the stores in a few minutes,, If I find anything about it, I will post..

Yup, that's what I was afraid would happen. I wasn't brave enuf to try.

I'll try tech support where I ordered it from. Good luck with your search, too.

It was right under our noses the whole time..

The secret is in the front side by the main screen.. Right below the main screen is a small panel that looks like is part of the main screen area, but in reality is separate from it.. If you remove that small panel below the main screen, you will find the screws that are holding the out side faceplate keeping us from been able to pull it completely off.. Once I saw it for my self, the rest was easy..

Wooohoooo! Excellent job!!! I was away from the 'puter all week-end. Sorry to take so long in replying. I'll give it a go tonight.

Thanks!

Help! I got the 6102 and got the CA-42 Usb cable but my phone and computer wont detect one another. I installed the latest driver from the nokia website and installed the pc suite. When i run the get connected program with the pc suite it never detects my phone, and when i connect the cable to my phone it says data enhancement not supported. can anyone help me out, what can i do to get this thing working?

Well, I went home last night and changed the faceplate on my phone.

I was pretty surpised when the piece that hides the screws popped off. I bent it a tad. Pretty crappy how it's just stuck on with adhesive, though. I straightened it out nicely, I just hope the adhesive holds, but if not, there's always dbl sided tape!

For those of you contemplating changing your faceplate, please keep in mind that the panel you take of is very thin and easily bent!

But, hey, my phone looks great!

Thanks again Tauro72 for figuring it out for us!

Good to hear that,, can you post a pic of your phone's new look?

I dont know if its possible but can I make a ringtone and put it on a website and download it from my phone?

Once I got fed up with trying to make my laptop recognize the DKU-5 cable connection, activating infrared connectivity seemed like a good idea. I am happy to tell you IrDa is the best connection method if available! Nothing to buy & no drivers needed; just point the right side of the phone to your infrared reader and voila! PC Suite manage connections is very basic. I have successfully used most of the applications/functionalities.

So in the end I have learned the hard way and have a useless DKU-5 cable, but I can connect...

Ciao,
Shortie479

The small panel is in below the Main Screen.. It looks like its part of the whole face, but as you start pulling off from the bottom as you looking down at your open phone facing the keys, you will see that it comes off on its own..

I bought the Handset Manager MA 8620E data cable from here:
www.accessorygeeks.com

I didn't use the software that came with it. I used Nokia PC Suite. I followed the instructions, and had absolutely no problem setting it all up and getting it to work.

Accessory Geeks sent me the wrong cable and didn't respond by email. I called them. They were friendly and helpful and sent me the correct cable. I had it within days and a label to return the other.

I tried to upload a pic of my Nokia 6102 with it's new faceplate, but my pic was too large. I'll try again.

i have the CA-42 cable and i downloaded the driver for it from Nokiausa.com...but when i try to connect my phone it wont work...i dont know whats wrong...has anyone had any problems but eventually got it to work?...i've tried reinstallin PC Suite and the driver for the CA-42 cable, but nothing seems to work...can some one help me out?

yeah HHARVEY is right for the 6102 the irda adapter is your best bet. found mine on ebay for less than $10.00.

I got mines on Ebay for $7, took 5 days to ship and it works great.

After reading this thread some more, I wish I had kept my 6102.. It was a great phone, just that the service was not really there as much as I am used to.. Any new cool nokia phones coming out in the near future?
