(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This is probably an old meme, and won't get too many responses, but what's the oldest cell phone you have (gsm/tdma)?

Posted by: phonemanjones

I have two Oki 830 (AMPS) hard shell transportables and a car installation kit. These were the best of the era (early 1990's) IMO. Anyone remember the Nokia bag phones from then? Uuuuugleeee!

I used to have that phone! I wanted the black one, but all they had was the woodgrain faceplate.

My oldest one is the one they're still using back home! I keep a Nokia 6340i in my car as an emergency backup. Drop the SIM card in and get access pretty much anywhere. Good idea that I recommend to others, especially if you carry a Nokia car charger around with you already.

Posted by: HiKneeHole

nokia 5120 on cell one.

Posted by: BillWeismann

One of my cars is a 1984 BMW 533i. With a dealer-installed car phone (Still got teh receipt!)

I have an AMPS Phone in a 97 740iL that I recently shut service off on in favor of Bluetooth.

I still use a T68i regularly.

Posted by: Joalesh

My first cell phone was the Radio Shack Cellular Transportable Telephone CT-1050. I got it in 1994 and it's still sitting in my closet in the original box. lol.

The oldest working phone is the Ericsson a1228di.

The Nokia 252c. It was awesome at the time.

Posted by: azntg

The oldest phone I have is the Panasonic Allure (TDMA & Analog) that I used back when digital service from AT&T Wireless was TDMA. Still getting a 2 bar signal here .

The oldest phone my dad has is a Audiovox MCI-120 (CDMA & Analog) from MCI/Worldcom Wireless before MCI Worldcom went down. Still functioning too. Getting a weak 1 bar signal.

Posted by: krzr911

My first phone was the Motorola Micro TAC Elite. The only phone out there (in 1994) that had a vibe function rather than just a ringer, as well as being small enough to put in a pocket! Analog on Ameritech. A dollar per minute plan on a $960 phone. Alas, both the phone and Ameritech are gone...

Posted by: SockMonkey

Nokia 2180 CDMA phone sitting on my "old phone" shelf in the office (...along with a V60i, Nokia 3560, Nokia 6200, Siemens S56 and a Nokia 6230)

Both of which are still working today and in-service.

I've got a couple of almost-like-new Ericsson CH668's (GSM, 1900MHz, branded Omnipoint but I've unlocked them). I also have a couple of TDMA Ericssons of the same vintage, one KH668 and one LX677, both on Beyond Wireless (RIP).

my oldest is the samsung x427

Posted by: Mango808

My oldest is the Nokia 5190 from PacBell Wireless.
Next oldest would be the Motorola V60i from Cingular GSM.
Nokia 1260 from AT&T Wireless TDMA (Fully retired). Samsung SGH-V206 from AT&T Wireless GSM.

I can't use the 5190 anymore with Cingular as my SIM cards are 64K and 3G which won't work in it.

Posted by: Fresh-Popcorn

I still have a very old Analog bag phone somewhere in my closet.
Don't remember what model or manufacturer but I know I bought it back in 1987.

Posted by: ace587

old phone i have is a G310 from powertel, wont work with my 64k sim and 6190 is crap cant figure out the security code, someone buy it from me

Posted by: KeziaPurrs

Grey Motorola StarTac. It was used when I got it. I think that was the best reception I ever got on a cell phone. It took digital so long to catch up to the sound quality of analog. Of course, now, all that's changed. Digital rocks!

Posted by: StattlichPassat

Home: Nokia 6340i- emergency/contacts backup phone kept in my fireproof safe
Work: NEC random handset for AMPS- I really need to make a recycle run...

Posted by: cozz36

My first phone was a Nokia 100 from Cellular One. My first Cingular phone was a Nokia 5165. It seemed like everyone in the world had a 5165.

Posted by: davistld01

I recently liquidated my mobile phone collection...and only had my Treo 680, for a whole two weeks!!

I just ordered a Samsung BlackJack as my backup/weekend phone...so I guess the addictive cycle has begun again!!

Actually, I have an old Motorola V60i that I kept just because it was my first "cool" mobile phone. Too bad it was TDMA.

I have a Motorola Select 2000e. Its gsm and still works! Think one generation after the analog brick phones. It was the first gsm phone released in the usa.

Posted by: vitin

have nokia 2160 tdma phone oldest and newest phone sony ericsson w300i

Posted by: kevink1

A Nokia 6340i I bought over a year ago (unlocked off of eBay) hoping to be a phone that I could get GAIT configured with due to trips through Kansas and Nebraska (and also no camera, in case I had to travel to a company prohibiting camera phones).

Never got GAIT to work, but is older than the 2 3G phones I use now. Still keep it in case I can't use a camera phone.

Posted by: holaDude

I know I still have it somewhere around my house or in storage, but just can't find. So, here isa pictur I found on the web of it. It's a primeco phone model qpc1900

I actually have one of these:

I bought it off of eBay one night. I can actually pick up an analog signal with it! I'm not sure why I bought it...total impulse.

Posted by: bobolito

Nostalgia maybe? LOL!

My oldest phone is a 3360 or an 8260. I'm not sure which one is older but I still have them.

Posted by: nokiaistehrulez

I've done that too many times...now i have a combination of useless TDMA and AMPS crap (about 40ish of it) that I want to get rid of...

Posted by: Marcster

My first phone with Cellular One was a gigantic bag phone. I started out with a handheld from them, but the reception back then was so bad that if you walked more than 10 ft past the door of any store or mall, you'd lose your signal. Penetration was a definite issue.

The bag phones were 3 watt phone and had much better reception.

My first Cingular phone was a Nokia 3360, then a Samsung x427, then a S/E w600i, and as of this evening, a S/E w810i.

Posted by: ScreamingMonkey

I had a samsung Sprint SPH-N200.

Posted by: nokiaistehrulez

^ I have one of those laying around.

My first phone was a nokia 3360 back with AT&T wireless, but lord knows where that's gone. The oldest phone i probably have (because i sell most of my phones) is probably an unlocked Boost Mobile Motorola i205.

Posted by: shawncv79

I have my original Nokia 5165 and 8260 plus also acquiring a Nokia 7190 around that time for the eventual conversion to GSM back in 2003.

Posted by: awj223

Nokia 6160 on MCI Worldcom Wireless, reseller of Cellular One D-AMPS service in the Bay Area.

I guess it's the first generation approx 1983-1988. I worked for Motorola authorized sales agent in 1988 and had a lot of contact with these phones. Since then I have never bought other brands.

Posted by: Alex318

Posted by: kuj

My oldest and first cellphone is the Nokia 6120 on CellularOne (TDMA). My oldest GSM phone is the Ericsson T28W.

Posted by: darkninja

My oldest phone is the SE t637. Doesn't really charge any more as the bottom contacts are worn out. Man i loved that phone. I always think of buying another one off ebay every once in a while .
