P800 sux.. :)

Well, I posted this little opinion poll on ClieSource, and no one seemed to choose the P800, so i wanted to balance the scale...

What would you do in this situation:
You own an NR70V. The Sonyericsson P800 is due to be released within the next 2 months. The P800 uses MS DUOs, which are initially available in ony 16MB max size. You have a laptop you'd like to be able to wirelessly sync with. Money isn't a consideration (read: I am setting aside enough for the most expensive scenario with no other immediate plans for it. (yes, I wil think of something if not used, but thatnks for asking))

Would you:
1-Sell your NR, get a NX and a decent small cell phone?
2-Sell your NR when the P800 is released?
3-Keep the NR. Get a nice cell phone (SE t68?).

Keep in mind:
P800 has bluetooth. NR/NX require a MS card.
P800 uses MS Dous (max=16MB, so no mp3 playing/few apps)
NR/NX have only 1 MS slot.
NX has a CF slot, but currently unable to use storage cards.

Yer thoughts?
Thanx

I've had the NR70V, a Pocket PC Phone Edition, and the Blackberry 5810 and just got the 6710. They all have been sold or are in the process of being sold/returned because of the P800. Aside from some small glitches, probably due to pre-commercial release firmware, this PDA/phone is amazing. Of course a PDA only device (i.e. Palm, Clie, IPAQ) will have a better calendar, contact list etc out of the box but with the ability to install applications in the future the P800 will soon have the same functionality.

This is by far the best phone/PDA device out of the ones I've tested. The RF performance is great, GPRS is fast, the PDA functions are very good, it has Bluetooth and sync capabilities (finally works for me), all in a package that is attractive and sized just about right. The issue around the expansion cards only being 16mb is a short-term issue - soon they will probably be able to stick a gig on one of those things.

I'm sold.

I thought they said the MS duo come with the phone is 128MB

"A 16MB Memory Stick Duo comes with the P800, which together with the 12MB internal memory gives 28MB for the user."
http://www.neoseeker.com/news/artic.../Hardware/1618/

The roadmap shows 1GB MSs coming out before the Duos get past 32MB. AND every MS (Duo and regular) is MG after 128MB. I think that the next round of devices I get will not be from Sony. I just want to copy my damn MP3s and go! I do not intend to convert 35 GB of music just so I can play 10 songs on my handheld while I'm bored.

And according to the white paper only 16MB is supplied. although 64 is listed as an accessory, and lists "Up to 128MB supported".:
http://www.ericsson.com/mobilitywor...p800_wp_oct.pdf

Now is that a cheap trick or what? Come out with regular memory sticks, introduce the duo devices later, which are not backward compatible (only their cards are), so everyone has to pay idiotic prices for a piss ant's amount of memory. I'm betting 64MB Duos, if they are released with the P800, will cost $150-175. The fact thatthere are 3GB CF cards available makes me feel like I'm buying outdated technology, and as anyone who is buying this phone will tell you, that feeling sux if yer a geek.

Gawd, now I think I'm convincing my self not to get one...

I almost bought a NR70V. But I wanted to sync and browse the web with my T68 via bluetooth. At the time there was no bluetooth memory stick available or drivers you could use.

Even if there was, how could I sync and view info on a data memory stick at the same time?

If the NR70V had bluetooth built in, I would probably have purchased that and got the P800 when the price came down.

After setting up the wap in the phone, I must say it's much faster then my Ipaq+T68 via bluetooth.

I am very happy with my p800. I made the right decision to pass on the NR70V.

The only problem I do have with the P800 is the memory stick. I do own a large number of 64/128meg sticks. I wish I could use them in the phone. But the NR70V has the same problem with people wanting CF drivers for the CF style slot on their device.

Result Sony C1 + P800.
But u might choose U3 instead of C1 as U3 is smaller almost like PDA (also this perfectly distribute computing and battery power to application which u need always up and running (mobile organizer...mp3) and application which u need when u are able to sit for longer (on c1 or u3 sony u can run and put almost anything which u can on normal desktop pc)

Right on the nose Spacer:

I am just waiting for a BT enabled sub-notebook (or VGA PDA) to pair with the P800.

My solution is still P800 coupled with the R505 series. You get an excellent power to price ratio with the R505. The P800 now handles all of my e-mail and normal on the go web-browsing. The P800 also handles my calls and general picture taking when I don't want to carry anything else. For high res pics, I carry a DSC-P9 and for video, I carry a DCR-IP7. Small and compact is the key.

When I tested a P800, the first thing I tried was playing MP3s stored in the MS Duo. And it works.

I think he means 16MB isn't really enough to make listening to MP3s worthwhile.

Actually I have a U1 (got it 2 months before the U3 was introduced). It definately does not take the place of a pda. But it is really nice to have around all the time. yes, i have a man purse hehe

yeah, but ClieSourse has a nice takehome prize of $1200 so far for whomever can make a storage driver for the NX CF slot. The you can use the BT MS for syncing...

Actually I think the big factor would be how you think the Palm OS measures up to the Symbian platform. Even just reading the reviews, my take is that Symbin performs a lot more than the Palm OS, even though there are thousands of sw out there av for the Palm OS. Definitely so for Multimedia.

I would go for Symbian.

I like small phones. I won't ever buy a combo pda/phone (although some may argue that the t68 has several PDA functions built in) I love my t68 it's probably the best phone I've seen on the market. It's small has all the features I want. I don't want the combo units.
