my bought me a 902sh and an 802sh for my sister a couple of Q's

1. can a unlocked version of the 902sh play mp3 (its going to be unlocked in the philippines)
2 can i use mp3s as ringtones?
3 can i take pics with the vga cam?
4 does any body have a sample pic of 902sh's camera quality?
5 what size does it need to be for my 902 pics to bee printed out (i.e. 3x2 4x5 5x5)
6 any body having problems with japanese version 902sh / 802sh???

4. Search the forum (and Mobile-Review and Whatmobile forums), there are tons of sample photos.
5. If you want to print photos I'd suggest 1632x1224, as the cam quality is not the best.
6. Search the forum, look in the unlocking posts, you should see what problems users have had.

I have a Japanese Vodaphone 902SH, unlocked in Hong Kong:

The VGA camera works
It plays MP3s
Camera quality is poor in my opinion

Ok, I will clarify:

MP3s don't work. MP3s that are DRM encoded and changed to the SD-Audio standard (becoming Secure MP3s) will work, but require a specific card reader and SD Jukebox software. Also, your version has probably been hacked to play MP3s, as the hackers in Hong Kong are capable of making the phone able to do so. But normally, it's the situation as described above.

The internal camera (which is a CIF camera, not a VGA one) doesn't take photos. It works for video calls, but you can't use it to take photos.

Oh, and it's Vodafone, NOT Vodaphone. >_<

Reflashing to the EU firmware will make it play MP3s in the music player, but the phone does not support MP3 ringtones no matter what firmware you use unfortunately.

If you flash the phone to euro firmware than you can play MP3.

will do mp3 playback just not ringtones unless it's DRM through WAP or as some claims through BT/USB if done correctly

digital rights management... u choose ur own ring tones.. to load up via wap. u can listen to regular mp3s all u do is put it on the phone..

you can play mp3 on all version of 902sh, it depends on which firmware the phone has been flashed with (jap, euro, hk).

only the hk and euro f/w can play mp3.

jap version f/w will play only sd audio.

Ok everyone, I'm even having trouble understanding your responses, no offense.

rex, the bottom line is that your phone can't play MP3s. Now wasn't that easy?

Seriously though, if you want it to play music you will either need to talk to someone who can change the phone's firmware to the European version, or you'll need to get the equipment needed to convert your MP3 files into the SD-Audio format, which the 902SH JP version is happy to play.

you domn't have to change it to the European version. You can also change it to Hong Kong firmware as well.

You need to buy it from Japan, because it consists of a hardware memory card reader (a Panasonic one) and the software (Mediastage or SD Jukebox) that accompanies it. That's why it's a pain to listen to music on the JP version.

I think the easiest thing is to just get the phone flashed to the European or Hong Kong firmware versions. Either one will do, and then MP3 files will work fine.

u could try aac? otherwise known as mp4 format by itunes? coz japan 903 can listen to aac but not mp3....

902 doesn't support AAC files. Only the 903 does.

could you tell me what to buy? ( i dont know but i might send my 902 to cellularcorner.com (ebay listing) ) they said they could flash it to v1.44 in 1-3 days... what do u think? oh and same problem on 802? do i need my sisters 802 to be reflashed??? THANKS!

seriously.. at such a short clip of 20 secs and less for mp3 ringtones... are you really gonna notice the difference between mmf and mp3.. they almost sound the exact same.

mp3 splitter for mp3, or psm player for mmf, there are more programs out there, that does the same thing.

im kinda confused...... so here is the easiest way i could ask for it.

Flash your phone with euro or hk f/w. and use mp3, copy direct to sd card.

for ringtone, download using 3G or gprs. over the air mp3 and mmf.
