903SH How to...Q&A

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: kamui168

Hi there
I want to ask is it possible to set the phone to save files to miniSD while transfering with bluetooth???
cuz everytime my friend send me a file over bluetooth it just save the file to phone memory and then I have to move the file into the miniSD
it's really annoying when the phone memory is full n it won't let me transfer anything.
I got 903SH with HK SX833 FW

Does the answering machine use airtime when recording the messages? Does it use airtime to check them? Or is it totally built into the phone?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong but: the phone uses airtime when it records a message, but that's normally charged to the person that's calling you and leaving a message. If you check the message, it doesn't - since the message is recorded into the phone itself, and not on some external voicemailbox.

Posted by: Timsta

exactly. it takes up air time. and not only that... u can only store about 3 voicemessages on the phone itself.

wo0t. i crossed the 1901 message barrier

Posted by: BMWFilms

that's weird that it's allowed only 3 voicemail messages. It should be depending on how much internal memory you have left.

Posted by: yis903unposubl

i've had more than 3...including 1 message that was about 2 minutes long. we can always test this theory...but can't someone else do it...i'm too lazy to call myself and leave 3 + messages.

i think it does go by the memory allocated toward the answering machine.

Posted by: khaltire

OK cool, so if I dont have voice mail this is a work around for that right? One of the reasons I will probably keep the JP firmware is because I want this feature, but only if it doesnt use my airtime to record someones message. So its 100% that this is true?

Yes, 100%. Using the answering machine function of the phone does not make any type of outgoing call/data usage. It just checks a message that was recorded on the phone itself. It's just like you're playing a game on your phone or watching a video. No airtime.

Posted by: yis903unposubl

no...*sigh*

IT DOES USE AIR TIME TO RECORD AN INCOMING MESSAGE. IT DOES NOT USE AIR TIME TO LISTEN TO THE MESSAGE.

Posted by: Timsta

oh yah.. it totally depends on you rinternal memory. for me. it was only 3.. cause i took too many pics.. and had too many ringtones going on. and there was one long voicemail from a client. that took about a bit of space. i gues.

Posted by: BMWFilms

Who thinks Sharp should have kept the 26MB found in the 902 around for the 903? I do...

Posted by: xinhang

I was wondering if you can use your headphone if you buy the remot?

Posted by: yis903unposubl

yes, u can use headphones with the remote.

Posted by: xinhang

AWSOME!! just awsome. can 903 play just mp3 for more than 8 hours? if yes i'm going ot sell my mp3 player now!

Posted by: yis903unposubl

i have no idea about continuous mp3 playback, i haven't tested it.

i'm making ring tones now, and i'm curious as to what you all are using as your current ring tone.

Posted by: xinhang

awww no one knows?

I see what you mean. I was a little confused. Yes, I saw that when someone is recording it, it picks it up almost as if it were a phonecall. Thanks for the clarification.

Hey,

I ride motorcycles and the best stuff for helmets and shields is a product called Plexus. You should be able to get it from a motorcycle shop or online somewhere. It fills in scratches and prevents more from occuring. Great stuff for anything plastic.

Posted by: khaltire

What the hell.. so it uses airtime when recording a message? Thats basically WORSE than voicemail.. that means if I have this enabled I have NO choice but to use airtime when someone calls me and I dont pick up (usually the reason I dont pick up, dont want to use my minutes!)

Posted by: yis903unposubl

it's an answering machine! just like for your house, it answers the phone, gives a greeting, and records the message.

just like for your house, you can play back the messages without picking up your receiver. it does what it's supposed to. if you don't like it, don't use it. most voice mail service is free these days anyway.

Posted by: khaltire

relax... its not like you invented the service dont get offended

im saying it doesnt do what people thought it did, and im just making sure about that

and no voice mail is free in canada, so I wouldnt assume "most" voice mail is free these days

unless its a trial period

How do I when sending something off my computer to my phone, store it automatically in the memory card rather than the phone's memory?

Posted by: Timsta

I"m So Mad At You Khaltire!!!!!!

ok. well. i'm not at you.. today. i hate canada customs... they blow.

Posted by: khaltire

lol what happened this time?

im pretty mad about the firmware thing :/.. now its a hard choice, do I want the 3 themes + full screen wallpaper or do I want the mp3 playback + ringtones (those are the only advantages right?)...

BTW tim what firmware do you have on your phone? When I come to get mine flashed can I take a look?

You think youre mad? My friend went to get my phone today and they said his alien card wasnt valid or something like that! And he lives in JP and they STILL wouldnt let him do it.. I dunno how you and sellers on ebay get a hold of like 30 phones to sell

Anyone? Please? I'm trying to send a 3gp video that's 14MB but it won't let me send it by bluetooth and I know it's because it's too big for the internal memory.

Spend $10 or more and buy a cheap card reader off ebay, or go to the store and buy one. Problem solved. It's a MEMORY CARD.. use a CARD READER. It only makes sense. Not to mention it's so much faster...

Posted by: Blt4424

Ok...but there is no way of sending by bluetooth, larger files?

Posted by: Timsta

does anyone know where i can find windows xp tablet 2005 OS? can't find it anywhere..

oh yah.. customs charged me tax on a clients phone.. i have to send it back to him too.. geez.. stupid customs. it says phone reapir on it.

stupid canada customs.... bleh.. and wierd they woudn't acecpt your thing.

welp.. i'm off to wait in line for xbox 360.

dont know if this has been posted.

but here is a nice link for 903 tips&trix

Good find Kev

PS. Do any of Timstas firmwares have alphabetical contacts? I remember hearing at one point that hte JP version is all over the place, but I dont remember if that was fixed

Posted by: moonmojo

Update to the following post. Items in red are the settings that FINALLY enabled my phone to access the internet using Cingular service. The settings that have been posted recently did not work. Maybe there is something funky about my phone, but, this is what worked and what everyone kept refering me to did not. See earlier posts. I'm feeling some what vindicated

This would be appreciated by all the silent noobs who need to know. I think people have lost sight of the fact that this thread started out to be a "How To" for the 903. So this is a "How to" set up your 903 for Cingular service.

i dont have timsta's fw so i dont know. I do know, that the jp firmware does have alphabetical contacts. you just have to go into each one and set a "reading" for it. contacts will be all mixed up until they have readings set up. the phonebook is alphabetical to the readings.

Posted by: studiddy

So, gentlemen, get ready to flame. I have the fully unlocked euro f/w on my 903. I have the apn and proxy stuff in as listed both here and the t-mobile website. Whenever I try to get online it says 'connection unavailable.' I know I have signal and can get the web, I put my sim in my BB7100 and it's fine. Someone mentioned after putting the info in to go to 'web settings' and activate them. when I go to internet settings (nothing labeled 'web' settings), the only options I have for proxy or apn stuff is 'edit, view, copy, and delete. I cannot get a checkmark to show up next to anything except under WAP and streaming settings. I can text message myself, but no video/ voice. Do I need to do anything with the WAP? I've read this thread thoroughly and have made sure everything is in correctly. Ideas? Thanks

Nevermind, just went in and made a WAP choice called tzone gprs and now it works. The web at least. Still can't send mms messages to myself, and for right now that's the only way I know of to test it.

Posted by: juniinuj

k i have a question... does the 903 have mp3 restrictions? is it 6mb? couldnt find a post on this. i can't put anything bigger than 6mb. just checking to make sure.

Posted by: yis903unposubl

The phone has a 8MB total capacity of it's own. Your SD Card can vary. For Japanese version, you can't use Mp3, and may of us are converting to AAC format. So far, the largest AAC file I have on hand, is 7.2 MB. I hope that helps with your question...

Posted by: juniinuj

k well i have a 512mb card... hmmm... maybe its just the song that im trying to put on. i have the hybrid fw so i can play mp3's so no converting for me.

Posted by: juniinuj

k ya its the song. i got a 10mb song on it so there is no limit. the bad song just wouldnt go on the card.

you can turn the answering machine off. or you can set it to answer after someone rings you for like 60 seconds. that way it wont pick up.

sending 14mb by bluetooth would take an age. it takes like 1 min just to send something that is 400kb.

i think it can. i was doing inventory at my work (the source, muwahaha) and i played mp3 for easily 5 hours. after i finished that 5 hour run, i opened the phone and it still had 3 bars of life left (the phone was about 90% charged the morning before the day i did inventory). the battery just died out today (the day after inventory).

Posted by: yis903unposubl

The 3 bars seems to last a long time. It seems like an eternity before that first bar depletes. However, once you're down to 2 bars, the 2nd one doesn't last nearly as long as that first one, and the last bar (red) will disappear quickly.

I heard from an unreliable source (though this seems to hold up), that the first bar is 66% battery power, the 2nd is 33% and the last bar is a mere 15% battery power left. That would explain why the bars are inconsistent in time.

Posted by: beyond

Ok this is a stupid question but i really can't figure it out...
and I don't think it's been covered...

anyway, how do i change the voicemail # on the hybrid f/w??
i can't seem to do it...i dunno why?

Posted by: jack_d12

well my battery life is like that too ! the 3rd bar seems to last a long time! but i have a swf wallpaper that tells you battery life in numerical percentage. it also seems like my battery never charges pass 94%?!?!?

Posted by: juniinuj

beyond: i have the hybrid fw too. when you speed dial the number one button it doesn't go to voicemail. it can't do it. so i just set the number 2 button for voicemail. i've tried changing the number for the 1 button but it didn't work

Posted by: beyond

yeah i know eh? stupid voicemail!!
that's really messed up...
i tried going into [settings, call settings, voicemail & diverts, voicemail, settings, voicemail centre number] to change the # but it still doesn't work

anyone else have any ideas at all? =S

Posted by: Timsta

to change the number of voicemail.. u have to go to the voicemail settings. i've done this countless of times for customers using hybrid. when u get into the voicemail settings. there is two numbers you can change there. change both to your local voicemaill call centre number. and after that. pressing 1 wil work.

when you first go into it. u'll probalby see a ton of garbled numbers.. 4 digits or 5 digits.. just get rid of all those.

Posted by: beyond

actually, i found the answer =)
go to [messages --> voice mail --> voicemail settings --> home mailbox] and you'll be able to change it there!

does anyone know how to display the artist name in the music media player using aac and mp4?

Spent over 3 hrs on the phone w/T-mobile customer service to figure out why I couldn't receive pic msgs. on my Japanese 903sh re-flashed w/Euro firmware. I was buggin out that T-Mobile actually has a dept. made especially for dealing w/customers who DON'T HAVE A T-MOBILE BRANDED PHONE! I told the tech what kind of phone I had and he just looked up my settings and helped me manually put the WAP and MMS settings into my 903. So if anyone who needs help for their 903 w/T-Mobile service here's what you gotta do: Call 611 (Customer Service) and press 0 after the prescreening to check if you're a customer. Tell rep your problem and ask to be connected to tech dept. Then tell tech. dept your problem then they'll say they can't find your phone on their list. Then tech dept. will transfer you to UNSUPPORTED HANDSET DEPT. Once you're they're do the same thing and the tech here can find the settings for the 903! Note: Depending on if you have the Japanese, Euro, or HK firmware, the model of the phone and it's settings will be different when you tell tech what kind of phone you have so make sure you have the right one otherwise you might not get what you need! I hope this helps!

Posted by: yis903unposubl

so that the rest of us won't have to call and ask, how about posting what they told you?

I probably didn't make myself clear but the reason I said to go through all of this is because some of the T-mobile settings that were put up on the forums didn't work for my phone. I was just suggesting the best way to make sure your phone works w/T-zones correctly and your MMS is to go through the BS I had to. None of the forums for T-mobile settings were really that helpful. If you tell T-mobile if you have either the V903 or 903SH, they give you different settings for the phone. Also if you have a hybrid phone, it makes it a little harder cuz you'll have to try both. THE PROXY SETTINGS, THE APN, AND EVEN THE PORT # THAT WERE ALL POSTED ON THE FORUM DID NOT I REPEAT DID NOT WORK FOR MY PHONE. I ACTUALLY GOT SETTINGS FROM A T-MOBILE TECH THAT WERE A LIL' DIFFERENT THAN WHAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE HERE. YOU MIGHT ASK ARE THESE SETTINGS ORIGINAL? FROM WHAT I'VE READ SO FAR YES. AM I GONNA POST THEM UP HERE? HELL NO. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS S#IT. IF YOU WANT IT, GO GET IT YOURSELF OR DROP ME A LINE IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME. SORRY IF I SOUND LIKE A HARD *** BUT SOME OF YOU WANNA ACT ALL FUDDY DUDDY. I've read pretty much every f'n forum on here dealing w/T-mobile settings. As far as I know I'm the first one w/a problem like this on this forum. Not to much info on here for hybrid 903's. Either people make assumptions or guesses. But it's all good though. I'M OUT.

posting the settings would've taken just as long as typing all of that...and it'd be helping people with the same problem.

Seriously. He could have just copy/ pasted the old info someone else already wrote out and then just changed what was different. Would be alot more helpful to alot more people than saying 'call tmobile.' Well no **** call tmobile. I could have posted that. Kind of a pain in the *** to type **** into your phone when you are on the line with tmobile. So rather than taking 30 minutes to types the longest post in this thread about not having time, twice , why not just take 5 and help everyone out?
I can get my internet to work now no problem, but still no picture messaging. Kind of sucks.

I don't think Vodafone will be able to help you since you did not buy the phone from them but you can try one of those mobile phone shops in Leicester Square. I think they can unlock your 903SH. Hope this helps.

Go 2 this link homeboy: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/mp3directcut.html

Or if that doesn't work there's a site called majorgeeks.com or .net; errr.... something like that, that has it. Can't remember the actual website name.

anyone knows where to get flash wallpapers for the 903?

somebody had links to some before. they're not all that.

Posted by: longj49

just read somewher that using flash wallpapers would make the gui a bit sluggish. i guess i can forget about it.

Posted by: Timsta

it does make it slower.. and it can/ possibly drain more battery. depends what you want it to do

Thanks, I did find this many hours ago. If you trace the original thread, the originator said he got the Cingular settings working on the Sharp 903. The actual interface for the 903 does not align well with the generic settings that are posted above. For those who can read, I have been searching, so smart *** comments about lazy and stupid people are a waste of forum space. SPECIFICALLY, IF ANYONE HAS THE EXACT SETTINGS FOR CINGULAR INTERNET CONNECTIVITY ON THE SHARP 903, I WOULD BE DEEPLY INDEBT. For the rest of the brilliant, who have nothing better to do than waste time making smart *** remarks in a forum, save them for another thread.

Thanks in advance.

We've all been around long enough to see COUNTLESS people get it right with the settings that were provided in this FAQ. Maybe they're not 100% exact, but if some people can figure it out, you should be able to as well.

So instead of YOU wasting space by complaining and asking the same question that I've seen asked here 100 times, just keep trying. We've all gotten it going.

New Problem Arose and A Temporary Bad Fix For It
This is a brand new problem, and hasn't occurred before, but now it always does. If the answering machine answers the phone, or the phone is set to manner mode using the # key, everything goes silent. Answering the phone is possible, but you cannot hear anything, and they cannot hear you. An icon of the phone with a music note crossed out is on the display in the top right.

The fix is simple, but a bad one at that. First of all, turn off the phone. Turn it back on. Turn off your answering machine (don't use it anymore). Turn the sound volume on manually. Turn your backlight keys on. Never use # for manner mode.

Has it happened to anyone else? I'm pretty sure I've had my 903 longer than most on this forum, so maybe it's a matter of time. I have the beta unlock, with no plans as of now to get the full unlock (if it's not broken, why fix it, and i need my phone on a daily basis as it is).

You must be a rocket scientist, insulting forums regs and people who could have helped you but chose not to due to your bad attitude. If you think you're time is being wasted then stop posting in these forums. You managed to alienate to people that could've helped you so I'm glad you stopped being a fool and found your answers on your own.

some people mentioned in other threads that mp3s over 192 kbps on 802 cannot be played and that they cannot be used as ringtones in the 903. But is it possible to play mp3s over 192 kbps bitrate on the 903 media player?

Posted by: olivrr

320kbps mp3 cant play on mine, but 192kbps is best.

What was the original voicemail number for Vodafone Japan?

Posted by: dav34

Posted by: jadaniel

I can't access any menus on my 903SH!!!! The most I can get it to do is type in numbers or show me the iemieiemei thingy.

I got it sent to me brand new straight from Japan.

Here are all the things i can say about it.

It was brand new, supposedly locked to Vodafone Japan.
It has never showed any service bars for me.
I have never been able to access any menus. (I thought this would change after I unlocked it and it had a sim card but it didn't)
I unlocked it using Total Multiserver
I did not flash the firmware or attempt to make any changes to it
After unlocking, when I put my Cingular sim in, first it tells me to wait in Japanese, then it switches the language to English when it says "Initialising" and stays in English (it does this everytime I turn it on)
With my Cingular sim in it, where there should be service bars it just says "out" (it always said this, even in Japanese) and the message on the standby screen says "USIM-MEP"

This is ALL the phone does!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!

Posted by: AL9999

I'm guessing you haven't unlocked it properly, MEP refers to the MEP Locks menu where you go to put in the unlock code for the phone. If it's showing this to you, then the phone is probably still locked...

Posted by: jadaniel

How should I fix it? I thought the unlock operation went smooth. Should I buy another credit and try again? Is there a free remote cable unlocking service?

I think I might know what went wrong though.

Posted by: AL9999

I'm not quite sure, that was just my guess as to what went wrong. Not an expert on unlocking with the hacking/flashing tools.

Posted by: jadaniel

Ah, Thanks
Still open to other suggestions as well

Posted by: khaltire

I could be wrong, but you cant properly unlock this phone with credits.. I had no idea it was even remotely possible... I didnt even know you could... It needs to be done by someone in HK probably or by Timsta (whos got the best firmware)

Posted by: Pozzy

If the phone is code-locked, you might need to enter the default password, which is 9999 (I just bought my 903 from a keitei shop in Yokohama 4 days ago & love it). I think though that I'll go with the UK software since it supports POP3 & I haven't heard back from Timsta yet as to wether he got POP3 email working on the Japanese version.

In a perfect world, I would have the J-Software with POP3 email access. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

Posted by: dav34

I think 9999 is the default password for phone-lock, not network/SIM-lock...

Posted by: BXNYC

I'm not 100% pretty sure it's been covered already so please forgive but I've tried so hard to keep the original screen protector for the camera lens on for the longest time but finally lost it. I paid a lot for this phone and it's the best phone so far that I've ever owned. I'm trying to care of it so it's resell value doesn't go down. Is there anyone selling a screen protector for the 903 camera lens? Would appreciate any links, suggestions & forwards to earlier posts regarding this question. Thanks!

Anyone have the MMS settings for Rogers/Fido fro the 903?
I could never get it to work on my 902, but hopefully someone will have the settings for the 903?

Posted by: jadaniel

I tried unlocking it again....same result....I'm starting to wonder if it is a problem with the phone itself...did I get a bad one that won't get service or go into menus?

You know what, I think it is in test mode...if it is, how do I get it out of test mode? The holding # when turning it on doesn't do anything!

Posted by: Pozzy

There are many many lense protectors available in Japan at the 100-yen stores. If you know someone there, I would suggest getting them to pick one up for you. Super super SUPER cheap, I bought a pack of ten for my buddies in Australia & California. If you know someone over here, tell them to look for the bundle-packs of lense protectors (comes with 10 different sizes of protection) and as mentioned, cost only 100 yen.

Posted by: jadaniel

I guess my phone is not in test mode, because I assume it I would be able to do more than type numbers.

After searching through the manual, I came across something known as the PUK code, personal unblocking key code. This lock is activated when someone enters the wrong pin 3 times. When this is lock is activated, it apparently disables the handset and blocks the USIM card.

I am wondering if this is what happened to my phone before it was sent to me.

Please, I am new to this, and I spent a lot of money on this phone, and then some more money trying to unlock it twice. If anyone can help me with this, Please, I would really appreciate it.

hey guys, quick question, can you send via bluetooth/infrared.. videos to another person w/ 903? cuz i tried with pictures and mp3s, but my videos in SD video folder won't let me send it.. is there a way?

Posted by: dragon208

try setting ur video settings to something else that won't save in ur sd video...I have mine set to .3gp and it'll save into the video file under data folder for my jap version of 903.. then from there u can send the file by bluetooth, mms, or infared whichever u choose!

Posted by: yis903unposubl

my phone crashed!

basically, it does everything that it's supposed to, except for make and receive phone calls. when trying to answer or make a call, it takes a second or two to even connect. then, microphone cannot pick up my voice, and i get no sound out of the speakers. oddly enough, the vapli works fine (with sound), as do music files, ringtones, and movies.

Hopefully, I can send it in to someone to get it reflashed, and that will fix it.

Posted by: nazerali

Two quick questions: how can I read/use the videos, pictures, photos, sounds etc from my previous sharp phoen saved on sd card and now moved to the mini card? Recognises and saves all new photos etc taken with the 903 and saved on the mini.

Second cannot send sms even though seems the message centre number is correct- on o2- but receives. Os it something to do with wap settings on gprs?

Just a little comment regarding to the topic...
files stored under SD VIDEO or SD AUDIO folders will be treated as files that are copy righted to the JP firmware (perhaps others too).
That's why there are more restrictions on the redistribution of the files.

yis903unposubl, how long have you had your phone? Is it the Jap Beta Version? I haev heard of a rumor regarding beta versions will eventually crash before, but never gave it a serious thought. My phone only occasionally restarts when I changed my wallpaper too often with large files. On the other hand I used up alot of memory both for the card and for the phone. There were times when I have to make a call twice due to the inability to connect on the first attempt. Please let me know more of your situation as I'm considering flashing if necesscary. Thanks. Really want to keep the games, though.

Just another quickie, is anyone have the same problem I am, in that their signal bars are jumping and fluctuating constantly from green (full bars) to red (1-2 bars)? Is this normal, cause to me, it just seems that its jumping too much. On the other hand, would we consider this as being a more accurate measure of signal strength?

Posted by: S.L

hrm.. it jumps usually cause of a bad network signal most likely. i know mine doesn't flucuate that much. but it really depends where i am.

Posted by: 1tym

Mostly when i'm inside an office building, the signal seems to jump the most, even when i'm by the window, no clue as to why. I hope its not because there is a problem with the phone, or could it be a firmware issue?

Posted by: volcompunk

jap beta was suppose to just be a temporary fix until you could get it fully unlocked... lolz no suprise it eventually turns the phone into a brick...

Posted by: yis903unposubl

well, not quiet a brick. it just does everything except be a phone. text, internet, music, movies, games, etc. all work, just not call and receive call.

I've had it for about 3 months. I'm a pretty heavy cell phone user (I don't even have a land line anymore), and average useage is about 3~6 hours per day. I'll probably have a brain tumor in the next few years...

sent it to timsta for a full unlock. hopefully this remedies the problem.

*sigh*
the thread is getting long, and it looks like i'm going to do another recap of all the FAQ's that have been mentioned. If you have anything to contribute to my recap, instead of posting it here and making the thread longer with stuff that's already been said, PM me with it and I'll be sure to include it if it isn't already.

Whats is the maximum size a ringtone is allowed?

Posted by: ravezy

just spent more than a day to finish all 35 pages of the thread, i think it's a very useful thread.

i have a white 903 SH and i believe it's japanese version, because it only has english and japanese, the thing is, i bought this phone around end of october, sofar i am only experiencing couple problems; which includes one touch power off, restart automatically few times when i got into the data folder, and the last problem keyboard has to be turned on each time i turned off the phone.

i bought this phone in taiwan and i am still in taiwan, but it's the VODAFONE, not the newest taiwanese version (fareast tone), so i am all confused with these test mode and full lock mode.

seriously i love my jp firmware and i don't mind turning mp3 file into ACC. but how do i know if i have test mode or is it full locked. cuz simply all the 3 problems above don't bother me at all. does that mean i have full unlock already?, and is the full lock still a jp software?

don't really care about HK, EURO, UK firmware, i am talking about the JP FW, they have test mode unlock and full unlock right now am i correct?,

the reason i am asking all these test mode or full unlock is because when i bought the phone i could already use the phone with taiwanese sim card, and the seller never told me about unlocking the phone or so. and i really want to know more about my phone, btw this one will be bringing back to toronto, wonder if it will work with my fido sim card.

Most likely fromw hat ur tellin us that it's a test mode ur phone.. if it's fully unlocked all the problems u just listed would of been fixed!

so i got another question, for the full lock, is it still JP FW?
or the full unlock is UK version?

Full unluck is the UK version. JP firmware. there is no true full unlock. there is a couple tho. there is repro version.. adn there is no-repro version.

hello guys i need ur help and i'll try to make this as simple as possible, kindly help my lost soul.
i have a 903sh with HK 1.05X firmware loaded into it,
i followed the following steps,
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Cut the part of mp3 that you want to use as ringtone by softwares such as mp3DirectCut or mp3Trim (e.g. ABC.mp3);

2) Use itune to convert "ABC.mp3"to AAC format - > "ABC.m4a";

3) Download the following linked file : "IMA.m4a" ;

4) Put "ABC.m4a" and "IMA.m4a" in the miniSD's Sounds&Ringtones folder;

5) Insert the miniSD into your 903, and goto the Sounds&Ringtones folder;

6) Copy "IMA.m4a" from the mini sd card to 903;

7) Set "IMA.m4a" as ringtone;

8) Then either delete or rename "IMA.m4a" (e.g.:"IMA-Mobile.m4a"). Make sure not to go back to view settings after deleting the file, simply continue the followings;

9) Copy "ABC.m4a" from the mini sd card to 903 and rename it to "IMA.m4a"; Make sure NOT to set it as ringtone" again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
but the trouble is, instead of playing the ringtone i want it to play, it kept playing one of the preset tones (flower wartz), anyone knows what is the problem here?
i went back to the sound settings and yes it says it sposed to play the ringtone i want it to play, yet it plays flower wartz instead! oh dear, ppl say that the steps is a 100% foolproof, but what have i done wrong? please anyone at all, enlighten me!

Posted by: boggler

Hello,

I am trying to use the 903 with the '3' network in the uk. Does any kind person know the settings that I need to enter?

Many thanks in advance.............

Posted by: yis903unposubl

Just asking one of those things you might have overlooked...Is the caller setting enabled that certain groups have certain ringtones? And if so, is the ringtone not for that caller group?

I do not use that method to make my ring tones, so I can't offer you much advice in the method you're using.

Posted by: Yan Man

Hi Merry Christmas everybody~ I have one question... I tried to put the Final Fantasy movie on my card (4 files in .ASF) but they don't show up on my phone. I tried putting it into the videos folder and the SH videos folder. How do you get them to work? I have a hk/taiwanese hybrid firmware i think if that makes a difference.

Posted by: prancingHORSE

hi, thanks for ur input, but i did not set any caller groups... yet flower wartz plays instead of the specified ringtone! sigh

Does anyone know who I would contact about replacement parts for a 903? I believe the CCD has gone in my phone, leaving my camera basically useless. Is there somewhere I could send the phone out to be fixed? I'm willing to spend whatever it takes to get this fixed, as long as it's not the price of a new phone. If anyone has any email addresses, that would be great. I put a support email in on the Sharp USA website but I haven't gotten anything back.

Are there people out there who are not Sharp affiliated but can fix my phone if I send them it?

Also, does anyone know of a parts list or schematics diagram of the phone? I'm wondering if the CCD is part of the whole camera assembly and if I would need a whole new camera assembly rather than just the CCD.

Posted by: prancingHORSE

k guys i came to realise 1.05X would not let u set non DRM sound files as ringtones at all no matter what u do, even that IMA.m4a thingy.
btw guys i always have this problem when i type an sms the msg goes longer and the fone changes it to mms, i noe i can set it to sms manually but is there anyway to make my fone noe what i want everything in sms only unless stated?
thanks!

Bump. Anyone.

Posted by: kms-lai

is yours a jap 903sh, if yes, your only chance is in japan, but you must first flash your phone back to jap f/w. sharp is licensed to vodafone everwhere in the world, only vodafone will have the spare parts, vodafone will not repair a phone that is not sold by them and within the same country it was purchased from. the only other chance is someone or some place that has a unrepairable 903sh and swap the parts over.

on the other hand vodafone may repair it on good will, but chance is slim.

Posted by: Blt4424

Yeah, jap 903SH. It's not flashed to anything, it's just the jap f/w beta unlock. I didn't buy it from them, I bought it from someone off ebay who also lives in the US and I don't know where he got it. Does this mean I can't have them fix it?

Oh and Sharp USA emailed me back saying they can't do anything for me for stuff made out of the country and just referred me to Sharp World. That won't help either though, since Vodafone is who I need. And Vodafone has nothing to do with US, so I'm screwed. Unless I find someone who has one I can use for the camera parts.

I may have to sell this phone as is and take a loss and buy a new one I guess. Or get a w900...

ouch...what a horrible Holidays thing to happen. Your best hope would probably be to replace it with another phone. That's the thing with buying off Ebay and here...it's usually no warranty grey market so when something goes wrong...it's over.

Posted by: Blt4424

Yeah and of course it happens to me...

Maybe it crapped on me from taking too many pictures? We could find out that this happens to more people. I was on vacation twice since I got this phone, so I was taking a lot of pictures. I dunno, I'm just pissed. I don't know that when I get a new phone, that I'm going to get another 903 or go for a w900. The w900s are so sexy but I <3'd my 3.2MP camera. Ugh.

Try going into v-appli in the menu. Should be in the top right corner and they should be in the SD folder.

Hope it helps.

Can someone tell me how to properly completely open the 903? I could only get mine open part ways. Thanks.

Posted by: raine2x

i just have a quick question it's been almost a month and my 903 hasn't given me any problems until now, it freezes when i try to 'take pictures' or when i try to disable/enable bluetooth or open my contacts, it just stays there, i also noticed that it's been a little slow in accessing the menus, i'm not sure if it's a firmware problem or the actual phone itself.. should i get it repaired?? should i perform a master reset??? i have 1yr warranty but i went elsewhere to upgrade its firmware to euro.. does that mean if i ever try and get the phone replaced they won't do it??

Posted by: raine2x

ok, i've done more observations about my phone, the problem is that whenever i try to make changes like change its wallpaper to one of the preset ones, it takes forever (hmm i timed it and it took about 3-5 minutes of 'please wait' screen) then the phone turns itself off then restarts to the beginning, but when it's back on, it's as if the changes i made never happened... or if i try and delete something from the phone memory, it would just freeze then back itself it goes 'initialising'

Posted by: Timsta

looks like you got a bad firmware flash. i'd take it to the place you bought it.. or send it to someone to get it fixed.

as for oepning the 903sh. .its not that easy. i've done it like 4 times now to replace housing for ppl. its not very fun at all.

Posted by: raine2x

bad firmware eh really timsta..? i'm just surprised this has happened now, a month later, i was thinking it might have been a hardware problem or something like that... but okiez, i'll take your advice ^^

I have few questions about sending files to Sharp 903.
1) I use a Sony T-series laptop, which doesn't have infrared port, or built-in bluetooth. But recently, I purchased a Bluetooth USB Dongle and installed bluetooth handset management. But it can't detect my phone. I tried using the SX series and 903SH softwares, but both don't work. I don't know what to do.
2)Can I purchase any sort of device to directly upload files onto mini sd? I can only upload sony memory cards . Please help me! I wanna watch movies and listen to mp3's on my sharp!

hmm it's like this. There is a program out there that converts .mp3 into .3gp (video ringtone) so when u are done converting the mp3 into .3gp. Put the .3gp file on ur sd card under the video folder. copy it to ur 903. Then set the .3gp file as a video ringtone. It should work~! well at least mine works

Clueless ? The emphasis is on RINGtone - it's a video that plays when your phone rings, instead of just an audio file. Doesn't have anything to do with the type of call...

mikey,

1) use windows xp bluetooth network manager. much much easier to use. and if you are using the sharp handset manager.. u need the bluetooth modem drivers. there's a good one out there kicking around. i forget the name of it.

2) you need a memory card reader that can utilaize SD Memory cards. thats the best way to load up files to your phone to play music and videos.

how's my phone timsta?!?! is it still craptacular?

wondering if anyone else's phone is ever doing this:
won't make or receive calls (that is, it will connect, but neither can you hear or speak).
drains battery very fast.
on turn on, the screen will turn off, and then on, and then off, and then on, and if you're lucky, the phone itself will turn on.

Posted by: raine2x

^oh dang, i thought i had it bad... my phone was doing that too, i couldn't even receive the calls cuz it would freeze once i answer it...

Posted by: Timsta

your phone... is progressing. there's 3 of us working on it. we're waiting on new tools to arrive to help it. its doing better than it was before. tahts for sure.

Posted by: Pozzy

Well I have my 903 in my hands, unlocked (thanks to Timsta & friends!) and works like a charm. SMS works. POP3 works, I couldn't be happier.

One thing I would like to ask about though is if anyone here happens to know the default number for Rogers voice mail. I searched through all 38 pages and found countless entries about their SMS and MMS settings, but not the voicemail number. Before coming and posting, I decided to call up Rogers help line, but they wouldn't give it out, even after they verified I was a user (thanks boys...).

Next quick question that I could have sworn was answered here... how can one remove the providers Title/Label at the top of the screen? Mine for example says "CAN Rogers Wireless Inc.". I would much prefer NOT to have that hanging on the screen, but I cannot (for the life of me) figure out how to remove it.

Now to clear up some things, I'm using the UK software. This leads on into my third and final question. I downloaded some games through one of the sites listed in this thread, however when I load them up into the SD card, I cannot seem to access them. When I still had the Japanese software loaded, I had the option to just select files from my SD card, however it seems with the UK software, I don't even have that option, the only alternative available at the moment is to download more from Vodafone Live... but the link doesnt work! Eek!

Can anyone out there lend a hand or suggest an idea?

Thanks a bunch!!

Posted by: AL9999

Hate to be the bringer of bad news...

You can't remove the operator name in the Euro firmware at all. You're stuck with it there. And you can't load games off the miniSD card either - again a limitation of the Euro firmware. On the JP firmware you could do both these things, but not with the Euro one.

do u guys have any tips/tricks for the 903sh? what's the e-book feature? i think i read in another forum where you convert the pdf file to xml..so the phone can read it.. anyways it feels like there's a lot of things you can do w/ the 903, i didn't even know you could edit the pic and put frames effect and stuff like that.

Ya theres more features like the answering machine for example, but oops it seems like your using the uk fw so your screwed. Its only exclusive with the original jp fw.

Posted by: phrozact

I've been trying to sync my 903SH UK firmware with Outlook on my desktop using Handset Manager that came with the phone. However, the program does not detect my phone. I can pair the phone with the computer when I initiate the connection using the phone, hence I'm able to transfer files to and from both devices, yet I cannot sync with Outlook. When I try to pair using the computer, the only service that gets detected on the phone is Dial Up Networking and nothing else.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and found a way to fix it?

Ok I have a Japanese 903SH unlocked w/UK fw and the person who unlocked my phone had the network logo displayed as "Cingular". I actually have T-mobile and was wondering if it was possible to change the logo display to say "T-Mobile." I've asked this question before and I repeat I do not want to remove the network logo, just change it to say my current service provider.

Posted by: yis903unposubl

same thing happens on mine. you can't do anything about it.

a friend of mine says cingular and t-mobile are on the same server and perhaps the same parent company. that's not confirmed. it's also been said that you might be in a borrowed network. meaning that you're a t-mobile customer, but your reception is better with cingular, so they borrow eachother's service.

Posted by: AL9999

Is there a small briefcase next to the G icon near the signal strength? Because if there is it just means you're roaming on Cingular, and may be why the phone says Cingular instead of T-Mobile...

Posted by: BXNYC

Yeah I guess I can live w/my phone saying "Cingular" instead of "T-Mobile" It's not that big of a deal I guess just wanted to know for sure If I could change it or not. oh well...

Quick question on sd video transfers: Does anyone know how to use the TMPGEnc program? I installed the Mpeg-4 codec that's needed but everytime I look for it on TMPGEnc I can't find it. Why is that?

I get up to this part and then I get confused as hell: from-http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/layout.htm

Now comes the important part:

§ When you are finished with the settings (you may also wish to change the source range of the video file under the advanced tab, to select only a portion of the video file) click file>output to file>avi file. A Save As dialog box will appear.

§ Firstly, set frame for interleave width to 5.

§ Next, click setting next to video.

§ Set compression to Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V1 (you can leave the data rate).

Note: If you do not see this option, you will need to download the K-Lite Codec Pack – details are in Getting Started.

hi im fairly new to this forum, i was wondering if anyone has any idea bout software and the cable to unlock the 903sh japanese model? i basically bought the Cables, Software and Credits to unlock my phone, but for some reason it wouldnt unlock and ive been through alot of harsh time trying to find someone to answer my question, but no one will... so you guys are my last resort, so PLEASE !!! what are the requirements to beable to get the 903sh to work in U.S.? im currently using T-mobile phone service plans.
thanks for all your help!

Posted by: yis903unposubl

let me start by saying please read through the forum guidelines and sticky's. asking about how to unlock, or if someone will unlock for you is prohibited and gets threads locked or deleted.

you can ask around in the market place about it, or PM others who are known to offer unlocking.

requirements for your 903 to work with T-Mo in USA is an unlocked 903. many of us, including myself are already using it. there's a lot of info in this thread about 903/T-Mo.

Posted by: Timsta

well said dude.

Posted by: yis903unposubl

Not referring to any recent posts in this thread in particular, but some of the new posts being posted up...

READ THE MANUAL!

Some of the questions being asked are answered in the manual that comes with the phone.

Posted by: Timsta

hehe.. i think the one that comes with their phones doesn't have english. but they can certainly download the english manual off the vodafone website.

Posted by: Pozzy

For those of you folks using the UK software, I do have a question to pose to you... can you get any Java games to work for you? I've downloaded quite a few .jar/.jad games from online and every time I try to use them, I get the same error saying the "File Is Too Large" (at 65kb? what the heck?)

That being said, the games I have been downloading have been for Nokia & Motorola phones, so this just might be the trouble. Any comments?

I'm thinking of taking on the monumentous task of translating the Japanese 903SH Owner's Manual...

...still debating if it's something I'd want to do in my spare time. But let me pose these questions: Would anyone here appreciate it? Would anyone here find it useful or actually read it? Or would it all be in vain...

Posted by: bushcat

It's not wildly different to the UK spec manual at http://broadband.vodafone.jp/englis...03sh_e_link.pdf. You might want to just do the differences.

Posted by: AL9999

I wouldn't bother honestly... it's a huge manual, more than 400 pages and heaps of text, and you'll see, people coming to forums like this will still make new threads asking stupid questions. It just won't change

Hi, my first post here! I got a second sharp 903/903sh (first one is a UK version), and am not sure what firmware it has on it. Firstly the icons on the screen do not match up with the function/text. Secndly, the top bar, where the signal indicator etc. are is not the usual 903sh display, it has all the icons that are on the sharp 902. It is not a European version as it has japanese/chinese text. Please help??

Posted by: Timsta

you have a the test version firmware. lomna on y our 2nd 903sh. its a combination of jap/chinese/uk firmware.

Posted by: lomna

wow, thanks for that very fast response. Is there anything i can do about it? Can i flash it to maybe the Japanese firmware?

Posted by: Timsta

you can get it flashed to japanese firmware definitely. if you are intersted in it or wnat more information. drop me a line on MSN or something.

wow i'm interested, but the thing is, i guess it wouldn't apply with the euro fw would it??? well u could post helpful hints right?? i still don't know if there are other things u can do w/ the 903, does it have a memopad btw??

Posted by: AL9999

Most of the things in the JP manual do apply to the EU firmware. There's just a select few features (try the Answer Phone, Speed Mail, Custom Screens, the list goes on) that don't apply to the EU firmware...

Posted by: Timsta

yah... it might be nice to have an english version of the jp manual for jp firmware users.. but i think in most cases not as many ppl still on jp firmware. i dunno. up to you man

Posted by: yis903unposubl

doesn't seem to be much demand for it. i'm better off just skimming through it and posting up points of interest.

maybe that thing in the beginning that tells you not to throw phone in fire, do not microwave phone, do not submerge it in water, etc. would be good to post.

Posted by: AL9999

They translated the entire 902SH manual though for Japan. Don't know why they didn't do it for the 903. I guess they got lazy...

You can look at that here: http://www.vodafone.jp/english/prod...sh-e-manual.pdf
