hk in 902 is better then jap in 802 and 903 euro is a better choice

but then again some ppl like the jap fw/ cause they wanna type in jap so its really a choice that u make urself

but u lose the simplisty of the mp3 player function with the jap firmware in the 903!? by having to change all the songs to m4a or aac. So hk and euro is the best for a 903? Im going to be getting a 903 with jap firmware so i have to find someone to flash it to either euro or hk. besides i don't know what im typing in japanese lol

^ya hk if you need the chinese full support, but you can't use mp3 ringtone, euro if you want mp3 ringtones and can live with 85% chinese support (or so, comes from jap kanji)

hmm.. well i have hk so i have to use SMAF as ringtone. but i noticed that the songs volume is soooooo low that i miss 80% of my calls cause i dont hear it. even wen im watching tv in the living room and the phone is on the table beside me!
any ideas to fix this problem?

which firmware version do you have? have you tried using the IMA trick to use AAC ringtones?

i think i have the HK firmware, cuz mine can play mp3's without needing to be converted to AAC. what is the IMA trick to using AAC ringtones?

goldwave doesnt support mmf files? so i tried boosting the .wav version before i covert it to mmf
i tried clicking the + for volume % but it was alrdy at max?
maybe i am clicking the wrong place?

By volume %, you're refering to the change volume option in Goldwave right? The max setting will increase the volume by whatever that max percentage is. If it says 200% then Goldwave will double the volume of the signal everytime you apply the volume change. 100% means it will leave the volume unaltered.

You should increase the volume of the song until the peak of the signal reaches +1 or -1. Increasing the volume even more will lead to distortion because the signal is constrained between -1 and +1. A good thing to do is to play the song after editing.

yah... test the ringer out before you put it on.. gold wave supports wave files only. u need the yamaha convertor for the mmf.

Ok, I downloaded goldwave, but it only can save as .wav. This I know...now how to convert the sounds to .mmf or .aac? I personally hate iTunes, any suggestions? I can't find yamaha anywhere, what exactly is it?

Wavepad!! Its easy, does everything - Increase Volume, Edit - cut, add, etc, convert to most audio format. Most of all its free.... it has a 30days trial, but i know you know what to do after that... hehe..

Shaznizzle, you do know that there's open source software on the audio editing market, too, don't you? Just like Audacity, which can do all the basic things you'd need. No need to go looking at solutions that cost you money, right

Wow, thanks jeebjp. I've heard mixed reviews of which file format to use, so of .aac or .mmf, which one is better? I heard that the quality of .mmf files aren't so good, what about .aac?

Hi, this might be a weird question regarding Sharp 904 not 903. for the battery.. i wanted to take it out because i just wanted to see if i could look at the sim card. don't ask -_-. well then i realized i can't even open the back part.. is it that difficult to open it..? or i need some special tool to open it?

all u got to do is right below the chrome part slide down ... simple or should be dunt have to use excessive force its prob just new and new things are harder to open

well all i know is that my 903 can't play mp4 or m4a as a ringtone even if i try to use that trick where its drm or something and rename the song and stuff. I have to use the "wave sound decorator" and change them to smaf or mmf. And I have the HK firmware phone made in December 05. Orignally Jap firmware and flashed to HK:

Software Verison:

EMP: U100 5.0
OW:7.0.2.1.e.1.101
APLIX: 1.17

I don't know if that is y i can't do it because its the new 903's with offical hk firmware?

well after 56 pages, 2 hours of reading and laughing (around page 47-48 *sausage fest

) I have conclude that my 903 with the new HK firmware doesn't support aac or mp3 ringtones. With the T-mobile service i can't send or recieve mms, i can get on wap alright, and i can't get my email working either (gmail with tmo trick). It driving me crazy and I think I am losing sleep to this too. But I still love this phone though

lol..its actually only 54 pages, and yes, the "sausage fest" i dunno about you, but its even funnier if u understand the cantonese..lol anyway, i'm having second doubts about getting a 903 in hk...i know that this shouldn't belong in a Q&A thread, but...should i wait for the upcoming SE W850i or go ahead and get a 903 and pray that no lagging/freezing/bugs/problems come up? anyone advise?

"gold wave", this program can let you edit the audio files

of course the volume change is on of the function that "gold wave" can do

For Nero users: The wave editor that comes with Nero Burning ROM can change volume too. Just find where your Nero stuff is installed or where it's located in the Start menu, and you should find "Nero Wave Editor". I know it can deal with mp3 and wav, I doubt it will work with aac though.

For all users: try Audacity

It can edit the volume, is open source (free) and has almost everything someone needs for basic audio editing. Why do people always look at the non-free options first

EDIT: It doesn't currently support WMA or AAC because of their licenses, but I think the support will be built on later using codecs installed in the system.

Not sure if it's already been asked in this thread but I have a question regarding the profiles in 903. First, is there a way somehow to change the name of the profile and second, say I connect my bluetooth headset to the 903, is there an option to automatically switch to the headset profile or is everything manual?

I think my phone is a HK fw but I am unsure (and is there any way to check) . However, I just realized that my icons do not match. Does that mean it's a hybrid fw and is there any way to fix this icon problem? If I do have the hybrid fw, how is it different than all the other fw?

Finally, my current theme is black and looks really nice but when I enter certain menus, the theme changes to the standard red, any clue as to why it does that?

it sounds like u have a hybrid or a messed up firmware. Have u try to do a master reset?

Effect menu -> Volume -> Maximize. Then just drag the slider until it's 200% (double) or 300% (triple) or whatever (try and get a nice volume without any static), and you're set.

thanks a lot. i'll try this when i got home. also i got another question. i converted some of my audio cd's to mp3 using goldwave. i first copied tracks from cd's converted to wma. i think they are at 192 kbps. then i pulled those wma tracks using goldwave and did batch conversion converted them to mp3s to play with 903. it turned out that the sound is too bassfull and it kinda distorts the sound. is it better to go for lower bitrate or are there any equalizer option with goldwave? or should i just go for an aftermarket earphones so it can accomodate the strong bass sound better?

When I first installed the USB driver and Handset Manager, file transfers were working perfectly. Now, I'm lucky if a file transfer works.

The things that work 90% are downloading contacts and exchanging files into 'Other Documents'. I can see files on the 903 and memory card, but I get the "failed to download/upload from/to handset" message (after waiting a long time). The connection between the 903SH and PC drops and reconnects from time to time and after each failed file transfer attempt.

I have a Jap-FW 903SH. I'm using Windows 2000.
I've tried installing 703SH/903SH Handset Manager from two CDs: the 903SH utilities CD and the CD that came with the USB Cable. They're both made by Mobile Action, and the one from the 903SH utilities CD is version 9.0 build 506.2483 (June 24 2005).
Anyone able to help me on this?

If things couldn't get any worse, file transfer using a card reader used to work but now doesn't. My printer's card reader says that it has found errors on my miniSD card, so I can't transfer stuff through the printer either.

Anyone have the same trouble with miniSD cards?

EDIT: My miniSD is a Transcend 256MB. The 903SH works with the card just fine, but the printer card reader doesn't.

how does the sound quality of this phone through earphones sound and how hard is it to get this unlocked (please note i'm not asking for links but just in regards to the process im prepared to read up on the subject at a later date)

sound thru the headphones is good.

unlock.. get a professional to do it in your local area and you'll be fine.

good luck finding a brand new unit though.. very very tough to find nowadays

yup tats the Test mode... I'm using that one too... Basically the main problems happens when only u turn of the phone.... and the 1 touch end phone button... tats all..

If u do off your phone, than simply go back turn on the other features that goes off... nothing to it really..

I'm using a Jap firmware.... theres a newer Jap firmware... but that firmware has 1 problem, the problem is... everytime you access the main menu, it will ask you for a Repro option... so simply just close that option n your on ur main menu.

Kinda suck, doing that everytime u access the main menu.. so im sticking with my test jap firmware.. However I think the Euro and HK does not have these problems at all.. no bugs.. so you might want that... but I prefer the jap firmware.. with the Full wallpaper and answering machine.. hehe

repro is not bad to deal with at all. it's alot better than testmode and it wont damage your phone, like testmode can. because the quick-off is a kill signal, it may cause data corruption of OS-necessary files.

the problem with a big thread is that its impossible to search and you must read all 900 posts to figure out that your phone wont play mp3 because its encoded in vbr instead of cbr.

Shortcuts button list bypasses repro.

(BTW can you successfully get Maxia TV & streaming? I can't get an answer on LYN.)

after reading 58 pages, i can safely say i'll be getting my 902sh (possibly 903sh..haven't made up my mind yet) and know how to fix everything on it

however, i still have one question i need to clarify before buying
i asked which firmware version the phone had, and he gave me some specs
i searched on the forum for it, and i believe its EUR firmware for the 902sh

Thanks to all who contributed, and curses to all those who just spammed. It's been a fun ride with the 903, and it still (by the looks of this forum) dominates the sharp 90x series (sucks to be you, 904!).

As for myself, i might be moving to a different brand of cell phone (it's a secret, so don't ask), but I'll always remember fondly, HoFo and the Sharp Forum!

--If the flip is open, pressing the green "Call" button would activate the autofocus (i.e. a green "crosshair" shows up on the screen but does NOT snap the photo). Only after pressing the middle button of the D-pad snaps the photo.

--If using the traditional camera position, pressing the green "Shutter" button (on the top-right edge) either halfway or fully, the green [] appears and the picture is immediately taken (shutter sound is heard). The option to "Save" or "Cancel" then appears. Is this how the autofocus should work? I have my picture settings set to max (i.e. 3.2MP, Superfine, Autofocus).

4) Question about,

Hi, I just got an sharp 903sh black one which is lock on uk vodaphone. On the screen it keeps saying "SIM - MEP". I got an unlock code but whenever i type in *01763*6371# to access the mep menu, nothing happens, even when i type in an extra m(6). Its like as if i have not finish typing a number in the phone. Like even when i press back it only goes back to the original menu with the sim -mep word. What do I do? Please pm please if you know whats going on.
I have no phone access atm cos of this ********!!
