Imate SP5 missing 2 things!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

1. Bluetooth 2.0 or at least 1.2. According to the Imate specs they still only have 1.1 while the k-jam has Bluetooth 2.0. Apparently 2.0 is 3 times faster and uses only a third the power. Why would HTC use such old technology??

2. Mini USB 2.0. I thought for sure it would be a mini usb 2.0??? But the specs say 1.1. Again, with all the data transfering we do on these devices why wouldn't they use the higher speed?

Here is the Imate website w/specs.

Dont get me wrong I desparately want this new device and it is easy for me to sit here and throw rocks at Imate but hopefully someone will correct me and say Im wrong.

Wow it would suck if that is true..

It has been seeming that phones are a bit behind the curve for some reason. I would like to add one more bit that isn't missing, but is behind the time. 802.11b, why not g, we don't even see g in pocket pc's though so I guess that is just the level they are at now. I didn't relize though that it has BT 1.1, that does suprise me a bit. With the USB thing, I don't really think that holds too much water seeing that activesync can't handle large files well to begin with, that is what card readers are for. I don't think it is going to sway me away from this phone...

I'll admit I am bumbed about only having BT 1.1 but as long as I can voicedial over BT then I'll be fine..

nice device but the lack of Bt 1.2 will make wireless stereo headset impossible.
A2DP is a must in this day and age, filling my 1Gb card on my SMT thru 1.1 rate
is a pain, 802.11b is a great feature but the OMAP 200Mhz seems to be underpowered
for a recent smartphone...it proves once again that we are forced to move to WM5 not
for hardware requirement not being met but that we are guided by manufacturer fantasy...

my 2cent

but mobile-review, gsmarena, and expansys all claim sp5 to have bluetooth 1.2

1. the omap 850 chipset is the same chipset featured in the wizard/imate k-jam models.. there has been a lot of speculation about that model having BT2.0 (or at least 1.2v)... since the sp5 uses the same chipset (which all these features are built into) it might actually have BT2.0 as well (wireless g i'm not as sure about)... if you notice that all the specs pages say "bt 1.1v/1.2v complaint" and on the TI omap 850 page it says 54mbps WLAN IS PART OF THE CHIP!

2. the TI omap chipset is actually a multi-core, multi processor chipset. with dual 195mhz cores with a proper build of wm5.. it will run perfectly fine.

I am really hoping Clubimate is wrong BT 2.0 would be great but 1.2 would be good enough. I notcied with my Imate JAM and BT1.2 the audio is sooo much better than 1.1. So are you saying the OMAP 850 is dual core?? Dual core means there are two cores both running at 200mhz??

Just gote a note from Expansys saying the 5m will be available Oct 4! Woohoo!

yup... it shouldn't be long before the reviews come in though... people just need to be patient.

I notice this preview mentioned BT1.2, but I doubt it'll have wireless G. Bluetooth 2.0 uses less power than BT 1.2 so it beats me why they're not using that. I think Wireless G uses more power than B so that is probably why we don't have wireless G.
