What do you think about the SP5?

I'd like to know your opinions about this device and its new opertaing system (Windows Mobile 5). Would be there any significant improvements in the phone part? I heard it's not that good in MS phones (comparable to Nokia's, for instance).

And what about the media features? Opening of average-sized images and videos is instant or delayed a little bit?

I've been thinking about the SP5 and Nokia 9300 for a long time. Need to decide now.

Thanks

IMHO, unless you are backending a Smartphone with a corporate Exchange server or a hosted Exchange provider, then you are missing more than half of what it can do. Since you are looking at a Nokia, I would guess that you don't have Exchange. So I would say go with the Nokia.

Sorry, but what's this Exchange?

Not sure if you're kidding, but if it's a serious question,
Microsoft Exchange Server is Microsoft's Email / Information Management / Connectivity server, and using it with a windows mobile device makes your desktop and phone integration more available and seamless.

If you aren't coupling this fantastic phone with Exchange, you must be a home user. For you, the main advantages with this phone would be its media features. The main reason I have it is so I can connect to my Exchange server... although I would still have it if I didn't

Thanks for the info. I've never used a MS phone before, and my experience with the operating system doesn't exceed my experience with feeding ants and cooking.

there are more reasons to go with an MS smartphone than syncing with Exchange. The contact look up is better than Series 60, better calendar that retains the notes attached to the events, the ability to play just about any media file (with TCPMP), numbers in calendar or notes entries can be dialed directly from the event or note, motion jpeg video or mpeg video recording instead of just 3gp, 99 speed dials to numbers AND applications, and the list goes on. Having been an avid Series 60 user, once I found a stable MS smartphone (SMT5600), I came to appreciate the advantages. Still like Series 60, but believe that Windows Mobile is more capable. Hopefully WM5 will be even better.

I have a smt5600 and my company using an exchange server. Is it possible for me to hook up to the exchange server and how? With email they are just forwarding my work email to another address which comes to my phone.

The short answer is "yes" if it is Exchange 2003. My guess is that your company is on either Exchange 5.5 or 2000 since it sounds like they are bouncing mail off a POP server. Contact the IT department and ask if they are supporting OTA ActiveSync. They can provide you with the info you'll need to set it up.

Thanks for the info. I will see if they are willing to help out. The easy thing is to just forward it to my other email.
