Questions about S66 & S65 Firmware and stuff

I plan on getting an S66 and data cable within the next week. I've read through posts and documents on how to flash the S66 with the newer (and different) S65 fw. I've flashed Motorolas before but never a Siemens.

My main goals are to use the latest (for hopes of being the fastes) firmware and to get rid of any Cingular branding junk thats on the phone.

Will following the instructions on hofo to change the S66 boot loader to S65 and then flashing it with the Winswup to a S65 firmware remove any branding?

What S65 firmware do I use? When I goto siemens site it asks me to choose a variant of the S65. The S66 I'm buying (from a fellow hofo member) has a variant that is not listed (makes sense). So which S65 flash variant AND version do I pick to put on my S66?

I'm sure ill have more questions after I get the phone.

Thanks for the help!

It's my understanding that it will remove any branding on the phone and unlock the crippled features (like network selection). The variant is basically which languages the phone will have. A950, the Cingular variant, is the version with North American languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French I think). The Siemens site doesn't have an upgrade for this variant, so if you can live without those languages, I believe you can just pick one with English.

Do you know which of the available variants has US-English and the least amount of other languages (to use less memory)?

Sorry, off the top of my head I don't. But there is somewhere on siemens-mobile.com that lists which variants have which languages.

Does flashing and firmware upgrades make this phone faster? Sorry, new to this stuff. Also, does anyone know if you are able to use mp3 or WAVs as ringtones with this phone?

You can use WAVs or AMRs as voice ringers on the S66. I don't know if the upgrades make the phone system faster, but in my experience it doesn't need to be other than the main menu.
